Having a 08 FJ that states use premium.. which I also use, here are reasons .. It hurts at the pump when you see such a high price, however .. the FJ runs better, less ping more horsepower, the knock sensors are not affected which can cause future issues, and you get much better mpg, and when you do the math you go further, and it costs less. In new vehichles they made a few engine changes and premium is no longer required. So oddly enough, premium is cheaper than regular.
