Through Fear and belief about the dangers of living in our bodies, we can teach our nervous system to be in a high state of alert. The good news is we can teach it to calm down. In the frame of TMs / Mindbody disorders, this is my take on the topic of a hyper-vigilant nervous system.

I've been on high alert since i was 5 years old. The pain I'm in is in the mind. I'm 52 now, that's a long time! People especially parents underestimate the damage neglect and abuse can cause. It's lifelong.

I posted this in response to your other comment. I'll post it again here to make sure you see it. I'm so sorry you had such a difficult childhood. The good news is that there IS a way to recover from this. Your trauma is not happening right now. Creating safety in your present moment is what will help you out. Nobody is too far broken to recover. Nobody. Focus on safety in the present. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ez9Ez49M8Ig.html

@PainFreeYou thank u so much. Recently I was diagnosed with Borderline to go alongside being Bipolar 1, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and ADHD!! Not the initials after my name I once hoped for. My parents are gone but recently I got angry with them both for denying me the opportunity to be the person I was born as before their ineptitude messed with my neural pathways! What you say is very encouraging since I feel I'm more 'damaged goods' than not. It's hard to imagine safety when it's literally about using my imagination as opposed to memory. Being a parent to 3 babies was really challenging; giving them everything I never felt. Through trauma therapy I realise I've been reactive all my life and as a result I am at the mercy of the things around me, never in control. Thank you though for your encouraging words. I've been working on myself since the age of 14! So easy to give up.

I'm so sorry to hear that. The pain you are feeling is your body and soul needing to heal from that so you can move on. THE BEST WAY, is through writing/drawing therapy, bringing it all to awareness and consciousness that you were going through as a child (draw you as a child and the abuser and draw you from behind as you are observing yourself going through the shit you had to go through with the dumbass abuser, and tell you inner child that that A-hole was wrong AND a piece of crap, but you are an adult and safe now and that it wasn't your fault this could have happened to anyone. Then grab a stone called an Obsidian (Powerfully takes out negative energy) and wrap that paper up on that obsidian that you just wrote you drew on (best done in pencil) with all that shit from your abuse, and take the paper and obsidian near the water (fast pace river, preferred because of the moving water) and burn the f paper and through the obsidian in the water, which will take all of that negative shit away from you. ALSO one more tip, take Magnesium threonate, crosses the blood brain barrier. Mag, is responsible for over 300 functions in the body. #1 calming affect. Also, fish oil. And if you have any mental issues from the abuse take The Magnetic Pill (it's the real silver bullet for things like OCD or nerves). Wish you the best!! Lots of Love.
@arabellacox
@arabellacox 9 месяцев назад
@Sara-wb2bs that's so lovely, thank you 🩷. Think I might need a tonne of obsidian delivered! I have CKD so cannot take magnesium - it often reads high in my blood levels. Funny thing is, people on the outside don't have a clue about my issues - I'm very apt at hiding and putting on a front. I wasn't told about bipolar until I was pregnant with my 3rd and last child. They have been my 'life-blood' and the reason I am still here. There's so much ignorance around mental illness as if it comes out of nowhere - you only have to read the comments under videos on BPD. One person wrote 'if you meet someone with BPD - RUN!' we are humans too and are paying the price for those who should never have had children. I'm one of the most loving, caring people I know and my grown children tell me I'm the best Mum in the world! That paper you write about might just have to be a book which I've been told many times I should write. Come July next year I will have my degree and have the space in my head to get it all out on paper for others to witness and hopefully be encouraged by xx

I can absolutely confirm that the most effective way of getting your nervous system back to a regulated state is to shift your focus and concentrate on anything that feels good. I know how it sounds but I've been there, too. And back then it was so awful, I thought I would never feel normal again, that this would be my new reality. But there was still a little voice in my head absolutely refusing to let that happen and to let something that I knew was just reacting to my own mindf*ck dictate my life. So I started with babysteps(!). Like watching extremely soothing clips before going to bed (I can just name things that worked for me but maybe someone finds it helful) like people riding night trains and filming their experiences, while using music und subtitles instead of words. That was my first step. Another one was dedicating a lot of time to meditation, espcieally guided meditation with the theme of reducing anxiety and negative thoughts. I started making little tiny workouts, specialized ones for soothing the nervous system. So partially I focused on my nervous system but with the intention to let it know that everything is okay. The anxiety attacks that period of time were massive so babysteps it werre but little by little it got better and that was pure motivation. To some these methods might sound ridiculous but I actively decided to not let my life be dictated by fear and found my own tools te get out of that horrible cycle. So I guess the first and most crucial step for anyone is to make that choice not to let anything dictate how you feel and how you live your life. Especially not soemthing that is learned behavior and can be transfromed. I wish everyone, if you raed all this (wohoo xD), all the love and energy to heal, to transform and to make that choice for yourself! Blessings

@marylein5414
@marylein5414 9 месяцев назад
@@imperfectly_megan I wish I could help you with that 🙏🏻 But I'm german, so I used german guided meditation. I understand english quite well, but I didn't want to have to translate in my head while trying to calm down. What I would look for in guided meditation for the nervous system and/or anxiety is someone who tells you that what you feel in that moment is okay, teaching you acceptance rather than forcing your focus elsewhere. Most meditations want you to bodyscan and be still and close your eyes and focus on emptying your head. But with a nervous system on a rampage that's a tough thing to do and might even have the opposite effect. So classic meditation is amazing but a better tool for when you're already more settled (at least I feel that way). Look for meditations that teach acceptance, teach you to respect and trust your body that it wants to do the right thing for you :) Where it's okay if you walk around in circcles while listening.. This kind of meditation is a great start, I believe. Maybe instead of looksing for guided meditation for anxiete/nervous system you could search for "acceptance" "self-love". Play around with other little tools as well. It's mostly the little things - but constantly done - that will make a big change over time and with some patience. I hope this helps a bit at least and I wish you all the best! You can do this!

Same here. I ruminate over things, and that has going to have to stop. However because of alot of trauma in 2020-2021, I became super sensitized which led to more anxiety. I am trying to recover from this, but it takes a long time and hard work. I'm certainly open to hard work to get this anxiety under control. Chronic stress led to this. I wish you the best.............and understand all too well overthinking and ruminating about things. The video was helpful, as the focus has got to stop being on negative things.............when I am feeling well and concentrate on positive things, it is like looking at the world through a different lens.
@ranc1977
@ranc1977 8 месяцев назад
@@constellations9258 If you start to pathologize your natural reactions to trauma, stress, toxic people (for example you tell yourself, explain yourself that you ruminate) - this will not help you. In fact, now you will be convinced that there is something horrible wrong with you, and this will add to new layers of stress and self blame and toxic shame. What I discovered with overthinking is very revealing information: 1) it is not over thinking. IT is intelligence. 2) It is not rumination, it is being highly sensitive to stimuli 3) it is a protective mechanism - it tells us how to avoid danger. It is helping us to create safety 4) it is an alarm - telling us who is toxic and that we need to act about making ourselves to feel safe - by cutting contact, by avoiding toxicity, by protest, by plaining exit strategy 5) it is neurodiversity - our brain is working differently than neurotypicals - we tend to see more dimensions and more angles, and this appears as rumination to third party, someone who is neurotypical. Then neurotypical will try to cure us by symptomizing our natural brain works and labeling it and stigmatizing - since neurotypicals do not like to think or solve anything in life - they rely on ocean waves to throw their motorless boat around and they don't care where they land. Something to think about. To validate ourselves, instead of symptomizing ourselves into depression and fear and panic.

Weightlifting and fueling my body with a high-protein diet cured all my anxiety. Physically, I’m desensitized to a lot of stimuli that would have previously been overwhelming. Constantly putting my body into a state of muscle failure makes many things feel dull in comparison. Mentally, I know I look fit and there’s nothing that feels better than a post-workout pump, so my confidence has skyrocketed. For the most part, any social anxiety that I previously dealt with has faded away. A lot of people tell you to go to the gym and eat right, but actually doing it can have a drastic affect on your quality of life.

After 30 years of clenching myself in tension..that first day I realized..I had to remind myself every five minutes to relax and breathe..and I found a little 10 minute meditation that I would Do every time I couldn’t to it on my own. I thought I may be having to be Doing this for a month to Re-Train my brain..BUT surprisingly..it only been a little over a week and I have to Do this less and less. Your brain Can Learn a NEW Habit as rapidly as it learned the OLD habits! I am so happy..My terrible insomnia is Gone! And everything is Better. The most important thing for me..is “Radical Acceptance and Maintaining a state of Peace.” And not just about my pain but life in general. This is truly the way to live! Be accountable for everything you Can and Do not fuss over those you cannot. I think they do this in AA! Anyway..so helpful. Thank You..Dan.

Mine got sensitised by a panic attack during a bad trip (too much THC not enough CBD). So now the underlying anxiety over my health/ hypochondria that's always been there, is crossing that threshold and leading to panic responses. Whereas before it would have just been low level stress. So it's forcing to me to solve this problem which I previously was just ignoring. I'm getting to the core of my irrational thought cycles, and in the spaces between panic attacks I'm actually mentally more healthy than I've ever been. So now the challenge is to desensitise my nervous system, but maintain the healthy ways of thinking with this new knowledge that I never would have gained if not for this negative event.

Great message~! I've been focusing more on accurate information rather than over-analyzing the problem or pain. Shifting focus doesn't mean denial or avoidance, rather, we can shift the resources of our attention and focus energies on a gathering mindset instead of micro-managing fight/flight responses.Even if I'm freaking out a bit, I'm. now trying to ask myself, "is this accurate?" I like Dan's focus on observing accurate info. For me, stepping back a bit and gathering helps me realize that I probably don't have data yet to freak out. That's actually one of the slogans I use for myself to ca my system: "I don't have enough data yet to freak out.".

This is so right Dan. In the past with the many things I’ve had but didn’t know then they were TMS manifestations the way out of it was always when I took the focus off the problem and believed I was ok. Usually I’d do something or take something like a supplement that I believed was helping but it was the mind relaxing and letting go that healed. Bullshit; it’s probably IBS causing the anxiety. Please, get a lactulose breath test to assess SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth) and IMO (Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth). The first can cause rather IBS-D symptoms, when the latter rather causes IBS-C symptoms. Both are associated with severe bloating/abdominal distention. They can cause tons of food intolerances, including biogenic amine intolerances, which can lead to all sorts of very bizarre symptoms downstream.

I like what you said “we have to do the opposite to turn it down. “ we got sensitized a certain way but we can reverse it. When I read the Sarno books I got the impression if I just believed my pain would vanish quickly. But it takes a certain kind of work for me. Soothing myself, Understanding that I’m not injured or sick. Keeping a positive attitude and really avoiding stressful situations when I can. I know I don’t live in a bubble but I don’t have to court trouble. So thanks again Dan for encouraging us out there that we can put this stressed out nervous system in chill mode. 🧘‍♂️😇

Oh god I needed this today. Thanks so much. I know that I’m creating my experience by giving negative thoughts. I have health anxiety. I always am afraid I’m going to die but I do have chronic pain. My nervous system does make it worse. Stress makes my chronic pain worse and sabotogizing myself makes my pain worse. I drank and I lapsed after 4 months of not drinking. I’ve gone 7 months. I’m trying to quit. The fears end up leading me to that path, so to quit drinking, I really do need to heal and train my nervous system. Hey there! I'm a big fan of Dr Sarno's work, and you're doing a great job sharing his message. This video caught my eye because I study adult ADHD and adult Autism. It's thought that the neurodivergent mind has a more hyper-alert CNS, although I do question if that's the truth or if the hyper alertness is learned. Possibly it's both? Either way, I've wondered if many of the challenges people with ADHD and ASD have are also related to TMS.

I have adhd and I was on 'high alert' from the age of 5 with a violent father. I imagine many of us with adhd might also have CPTSD, with that being what the adhd stems from especially when we know how cognition and neural pathways of the brain can be formed differently from the 'norm' at a young age due to outside stressors. Long term high levels of cortisol must play a part in this.
