Oscar Ernest Lance, 35, and his younger brother, 21-year-old Jacob Lance, pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter, arson and burglary connected to the November 2015 death of Todd Cantlay near Pendleton South Carolina,
Before the fatal beating, Cantlay had called and texted Jacob Lance about Cantlay's son paying too much for drugs and being "shorted," according to a statement from the solicitor's office.
Cantlay's son, who was in his late teens at the time, had apparently bought marijuana from one of the Lance brothers, according to 2015 testimony from Nathan Mitchell, an investigator at the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.
Cantlay was killed in his century-old farm house a few miles east of Pendleton. Before being purchased by Cantlay, the McAlister House was briefly used as a wedding venue.
After Cantlay died of the blows he suffered during the beating, the Lance brothers burned his body and then stole guitars, an Xbox, a television and a rifle from Cantlay's home before driving off in his car. The brothers attempted to burn the vehicle before deputies found it in a field in Starr, according to investigators.
Items taken from Cantlay's home were found in Jacob Lance's vehicle and in Oscar Lance's home, according to the solicitor's office.

They are obviously both guilty and we’re both there, BUT you can tell the little brother is the one that did the actual killing. He even describes how the guy was choking on his blood, and if Ernie had asked him to leave when he supposedly “killed”the guy then why would Ernie then describe in detail that the man’s neck was slit and stabbed on each side? Obviously Jacob the little brother did the killing, that is how he knew exactly how he was killed. Also you can just tell by his psychopathic/ sociopath behavior. And Jacob was the one who wanted to defend his mama, then he acts like all of a sudden it’s Ernie who wants to defend the mother when they get there, his story doesn’t add up. It’s really sad how he is so quick to blame his brother, when his brother was trying to protect him in the beginning.

@juliabohemian

I think the worst part of that is the fact that a person has a right to an attorney, but unless they have their own on speed dial they will be held hostage until the state feels like providing them one.
@GenZMother
@GenZMother 10 месяцев назад
@@juliabohemianthat’s not entirely true here in Australia. If you request a lawyer, they do give you the phone number of legal aid on speed dial. When you call the number, the lawyer just tells you to shut your mouth and they’ll see you later. There’s nothing a lawyer can do until you either make bail or they come see you on remand. They definitely don’t want to show up to an interrogation unprepared.
@ichangedmynameforyoutube
@ichangedmynameforyoutube 10 месяцев назад
The kid also has the right to remain silent, which he did not invoke. The detectives continued to ask him questions, and he continued talking. This is how they get away with the boy “requesting a lawyer“. He never officially asked for a lawyer after signing.

These 2 were sentenced to 30 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter. They should have both gotten life unless the 30 years was set as a whole tariff with 100% completion before release. They should have also been charged with attempted murder for the kid upstairs who came down and put out the fire. If they don't serve everyday of that 30 hopefully they'll get real justice when they get out early.

They made it seem as if his asking for a lawyer was just going to be a major inconvenience to him, when the reality is he asked for one and things should have stopped right there. It was going to "take days if he didn't already have one". I see that good old boy southern "justice" is alive and well in South Carolina. They also led him to believe that it wasn't until they got through that form, he signed it and started talking to them that he could then stop at any time, but the implication was that he really needed to sign that thing. I've watched a lot of these sorts of interrogations from many other states, and these law enforcement officers were pretty ham-handed in their handling of his rights, and probably knew that he would easily cave if they made it seem like asking for a lawyer was just going to complicate things for him.

I'm sorry but I think you should be told why you're being arrested when they bring you in for questioning. That's the law in Canada.

“You have a right to a lawyer and to have *him* with you.” I’m surprised they don’t change that.

These hillbilly detectives need some schooling. They are taking things to personal and mocking him. They did the same thing to his brother. Don’t get me wrong they are both guilty but theses detectives suck. Not to mention threatening them with the death penalty.
