That's a good reply. It shifts the focus back to their behavior and can lead to calling out their malicious intent. Pushing cops on that makes it clear why no one should ID.

He's trying to ID him to see if he is on parole. It's like when you refuse to show ID and then the cop asks you, are you on parole? Well, if you are not on parole, you can refuse to answer his question; however, if you are on parole, you have to tell the cop. That is the way it works.

Good discussion about educating the people who call the police to report legal activity. What would the police's response be if someone called frequently to report "The children who live next door are playing loudly in their own yard?" Or "My neighbor just parked his car on the street in front of my house instead of his own?" Would they come out and "investigate" or would they say, "Ma'am, there is nothing illegal about that."

What I can never understand is how the port police will expect you to accept their actions when they will respond to a complaint about a citizen using a camera, they will tell you they don't know who the complainant is, yet they would not accept a request for assistance from you unless you fully identified your self prior to attending,

All you auditors rock. Awesome patience. I swear these same questions. I would have already snapped and be in prison. I’ve thought about doing some audits in and around my area but I just don’t know if I could take it? When I’m working I’m on the other side but I finally had enough sense to educate myself and make damn sure I don’t violate anyone’s rights. My department does a really good job of training and making sure we obey the law. I hate to say it but law enforcement brake laws day and night. After a law suit a few years back the training got a lot better. Imagine that. Stay safe

It's just common sense that anything that's in view of the pubic from public property is fare game to be photographed/taped. If they're so worried about their facilities not being captured on film, the should build walls around them or plant hedges. For the time being, the guard posts should have a sign posted in them saying "Photography from public areas IS permitted." But that's just common sense...way too logical of a plan for these companies to implement!

Even with a home computer with a decent amount of RAM and a 3D manipulation program with some glasses, one could very easily take note of the area you are video taping and make an extremely good analysis of distances between buildings, sizes of building, distances of the roads (hence how fast one might be able to traverse those distances), and garner a number of very interesting and useful items about that port. All very useful if someone were planning to attack said facility. I just wanted you to know that. Because it's true. Even the amount of time it took a port police to arrive, the kind of vehicle he was driving, all of that, very useful indeed....think about it...

easy to note what the port police are armed with, also. I'm sure that deeper into the facility you might encounter some heavy weaponry but you know at least not prior to that. As I said above, with such video, a computer, the right software and some very bad intentions and your exercise in rights could easily be turned into a tool.
