Miquella essentially divesting himself of his tangible form and becoming a spirit like Melina and Ranni, makes sense how the three and Torrent are connected

So, with everyone talking about the omen horns and feeling that everyone and everything in the trailer is an omen, I wanted to bring up the fact that the horns don't inherently represent the omen, they represent the crucible and that's why the omen have these horns. Other creatures close to the crucible have strange growths. We also see the crucible knight wing attack and a few other things that resemble what we know of the crucible. I was theorizing that this land will be primarily influenced by the Crucible since it is the land Marika first stepped foot in. There have also been a lot of people that have pointed out that the great roots are not original to the Erdtree, but that the Erdtree was grafted to these roots to take over and spread the influence of the Golden Order. This is also why other attempts at growing new Erdtrees have been failures (except Malenia's, but it's not really a tree, but more like a flower or a bush) We also see that that lion costumed boss wields lightning, something typically attributed to the dragons. However, the yellow lightning seems to be more of a ancient dragon cult incantation rather than a direct form of dragon magic. Just a weaker version of the ancient dragon lightning being wielded by the people under the costume. These people seem somewhat omen-like, which wouldn't be too surprising considering the connection to the crucible, and if it was the main source of worship, omens would likely be more common in the land of shadow and likely more of an omen of good fortune than bad. Omens in this land might be celebrated. We also see Messmer's draconic influence, with dragon eyes and so on. I don't think he's just another worshipper of dragons or someone that merely consumed dragon hearts, but something else entirely. Rather than showing the sign of the curse, I think it's more likely that he actually wields dragon powers in a more masterful way. I wouldn't be surprised if his inevitable second or third form IS a dragon. I mean, we haven't SEEN any dragons yet, but if this place is connected to the crucible, there have to be a few. Then I found the third Miyazaki interview that all but confirmed it. He mentioned that the Lion thing is a cultural thing specific to the lands of shadow and the intention was to show that this land has a different culture than the lands between, hence the strange, alien feeling you get. He also explains that this is the land where Marika became a god and the golden tree was born. We know that the golden order replaced the crucible and took over the original roots, so it's possible that the tree we see in the land of shadows is a more accurate view of what is happening, and it's the Erdtree choking out the primordial tree. The color scheme also reminds me of the Age of the Duskborn, so it could also have something to do with deathroot. We see a lot of roots that look kinda like deathroot in the land of shadow, but I think these are more likely great roots or some form of the crucible, especially considering the original Elden Ring was covered in roots.

Although there may be some doubt as the whether or not Masmer the Impaler is a child of Marika, I would like to direct you all to Impaler's Catacombs where a phantom npc mentions an unwanted child of Marika

Throwing weapon class is INTERESTING. One of my favorite things in LotF was the way it handled ranged weapon classes; so it'll be exciting to see how these compare. So Thrown, Shielded, Martial Arts, and five or so more weapon classes we have no clue about. I'm holding out hope that the catalyst weapons are one of the new weapon categories, this way we can get one for each school of magic. Ideally an int/fth demon's scar type weapon that can cast fire incantations and magma sorceries.

I just realized Miquella’s egg is sitting on top of a giant ass pelvis bone. So he’s technically in a womb. That’s insanely dark and awesome!!!!! This DLC blew my face off. It needs to be on a 65in 8k for maximum enjoyment.

The lands between is the main game area... Now Shadow Of the Erdtree area is called Lands of shadow. Does that mean that there is also a Land of light for a possible sequel or dlc 2??? Im so hyped for from soft future🔥🔥🔥

Godrick is my literal favorite ER boss So fighting him twice per playthrough is awesome imo. Reusing assets is NOT a big deal cause Fromsoft assets are always goated.

I can confirm that you can access Mohnwyn palace from the snowfield teleport without killing radahn

if the Land of Shadow is where Marika first set foot and became a god, and where the Erdtree was born, then I'd say it's safe to assume Messmer could be Marika's very first child, before Miquella and Malenia, Rennala's children and the Golden Lineage she had with Godfrey. Only thing that would maybe throw a wrench in that theory is Messmer's red hair, which of course is tied closely to Radagon, but I'm gonna sit on the hill that Messmer could be Marika's first child, and likely a bastard child since there's no mention of a father (yet)

They should release the original story of G.R.R.M for the 10 years. Also pure head canon, the Lands of Shadows seems like a sort of paralell world or "hell" where all things rejected by the Erdtree resides. Mesmer is the Hades figure

I kind of gone all over with Messmer’s origin. But the Pilgrimage Church on the Weeping Peninsula has a ghost out front possibly talking about Messmer. Also the Impaler Catacomb. Didn’t really have anything significant I felt. But I went through it again last night. Just has a watchdog.

Why do we need to Kill Radahn to get to Moghwyn palace? We can use the Ravine passage and invade the Beast claw dude, get back to Varre and use the Seal to get teleported to Moghwyn's palace entrance

The thing he says about integrating the level design more seamlessly into the open world is literally my number one thing I would have wanted. I always thought the over use of castles for the main dungeons in the base game was a bit of a shame as it’s such an abrupt transition between open area and dungeon. There’s a few areas where they crafted levels into features of the world more naturally, such as the Albinauric Village or the Ruin strewn precipice. Really happy to hear they’re aware of this and trying to improve on it in the dlc, I’m incredibly excited now

I can't wrap my mind around how a DLC "roughly bigger than limgrave" can be 60 gigabytes, which is around the size of the main game. I mean was he referring to the surface only but then when the game comes out we will see an underground the size of liurnia?

Provided you can reach the snowfields without killing rahdan then yes, the portal will take you to mohg's area. But that is the long way. You should be able to do the white mask questline and get the invite to his area before then but I don't recall if you have to defeat any bosses to get it.

A separate level up system that is only active in the DLC is a great idea, I was honestly wondering how the're gonna make it work

The new grace will be the Redgrave of death. Like the one in the helphens steeple description. It’s said to look just like grace but is red and guides the dead.

The reason we need to kill Radahn is the same reason why we need to kill him in Rannis quest, he’s holding back the stars which control fate, and we know that Miquella is trying to achieve an eclipse, this is why he sent Malenia to face Radahn as well.

I think it’s probably a safe bet that the boss thats going to be as difficult as meliania is probably miquala

If lands between means more then just the land between the underground and the canopy of the erdtree, than the shadow realm could be something below what we know so there maybe another map down the road in another DLC that's above the OG Map

Defeating Radahn doesn't get you access to Mohgwyn Palace though. It just gets you access to Nokron. The only two ways into Mohgwyn Palace are the Snowfield teleport and using the medallion you get from Varre. Unless there's a third way I still haven't found after 2000 hours. On my recent DLC prep playthrough I found an Ash of War I never knew existed so it's entirely possible I missed that too.

You can do Vare's quest in Liurnia and get access to Mohgwyn Palace

awesome. I need to re-engage and get my reflexes back in shape. took a break to play TOTK and now haven't played for months. Looks like I need to get back in shape :-). This is great - a whole new game essentially but with some advantage coming from the Lands Between experience. Plus... being more of a completionist mindset, really looking forward to getting all that new gear and ashes, baby. It's going to be a good summer (even if the rest of this freaking world is going to heck in a handbasket ;-)

I hope they start balancing the game with new updates before the DLC comes out

That white skeleton looking boss looks a lot like a 2nd gen albinauric. His weapon looks very similar to some of the large clubs they wield as well

It's nutty how much they fit into the new trailer! I counted at least a dozen new poison swamps dozen 🤣

Everything sounds spot on to Wht I’ve been thinking but the comparison with esmer seems a bit off the chairs have different furnishings ones rounded at the top the other which esmer is sitting on is straight edged with points sticking out like it is fenced or gated, which could lead to him being the boss we face before finding or fighting miquella. Like he says in the video Miyazaki is planning for the wed tree to be the footsteps of miquella not the guidance of the erdtree

There's definitely a lot going on in Shadow of the Erdtree. We see bloodflame, briars, snakes, we see crucible stuff, hints of dragon and void involvement, and a some pretty heavy influence of the Helphen in the background. My personal theory is that the Land of Shadow is a parallel dimension to the Lands Between which is closer to the spirit realm of the Helphen, hence all the deathroot, which also seems to be strangling the Erdtree there. While Messmer the Impaler and his rule over the Shadow Lands is the main story, I wouldn't be surprised if a sizable chunk of the expansion's side content was related to the Helphen, and possibly Godwyn and/or the Twin Birds.

I hope they bring back Lances as weapon types. DS2 lances were so fun to use

You need to kill Radahn to access Mohgwyn Palace. You can use the Pureblood Knight's Medal to teleport you there by progressing White Mask Varre's questline (which requires you to kill Godrick).

so if the dlc has different level scaling its save to say that we can simply start it from an existing save?

Just remember the trailer for the Ringed City. It never showed Gael's fight. But it showed Midir. I guess Messmer will be the optionsl tough boss, like Midir was. Abd we havents seen the ending boss, probably Miquella in moth corruoted form (that we gave to save).

I just thought of something and checked it in game I’m not sure but could it possibly be messemer inside the cocoon? The large arms, and to me it seems like even the nails on the hand are the same but I can’t seem to see the ring that’s in the corpse on messemer. At least not in the images shown so far.

@ziostorm my theory on Messmer is that he is somehow the serpent that merges with Rykard in the base game. With all the depictions of snakes on his armour and the red snake that is with him. ALSO, his spear looks similar to the serpent spear you get in the boss arena What are your thoughts?

Colossal katanas, martial arts and reverse grip katanas for me. Definitely the Angel winged crucible knight move and sleep spell, I’m gonna switch my build.

I think this is about the Crucible. That came before the two fingers. It involves hybrid animals. Lots of the animals they have shown are mixed with some other kind of animal.

Anyone else feel like the dlc is gonna expand upon the glaring WTF of how Marika became Radagon? Maybe by traveling to the shadow world and triggering some transformation? Perhaps Miquella did the same to become Messmer?

Any word on if multi player will increase? On the PS store it says it supports up to 6 players. Unless i misunderstood it
