My final video for the foreseeable future, and to prove my point, I got rushed during filming this video and missed multiple points that I had intended to say.

So for now this is the last video. It's not goodbye forever. Until the next one, take care and thank you for your support.

The problems with installing new parts you're describing apply to all similar cars and are even worse for European brands !

I drive a 1997 Granvia Q 4x2. Basically a Super Custom with a hood. The hood makes it much easier to service parts like windshield washers or the wiper motor. Agree with the difficulty in finding trim parts, as the Granvia was never sold in the Philippines either. Mine was also converted from RHD to LHD as it is illegal to drive RHD vehicles in the Philippines. So I have had to live with many imperfections due to the conversion process (column shifter on the opposite side of the steering column, handbrake on the far side of the center tunnel, indicator switches on the "wrong" side of the steering column, fuel door release on the foot of the passenger seat, sliding door on the "wrong" side of the van, etc.). But overall, it is a great van that has been with us for 6 years and counting, and while it is very thirsty at the pump, maintenance cost is actually the cheapest compared to the two other (much younger) cars we own.

I got my Hiace SC for $4000NZD and have had it for 4 years. With 7 previous owners and over 500,000 kms its still going hard. With less than $2000 in repairs *i did most myself* when I replaced trans fluid i discovered large chuncks of metal gears 😂 it doesnt care. This has been the most reliable vehical if ever owned with tons of power. Youve scared me a bit with the wipernosel but other than that i could not recommend it enough. My Custom has taken me so far. Hosted so many parties. Moved countless people around the country. Been a conversation started and has brought so much joy and smiles into my life and others. 1994 SC L

Great video! I was hoping the title was just a clickbait a la Scotty Kilmer but it seems like it's not.. Well I hope you get back to making videos soon, your content is fantastic and it's very clear how far you've gone with sound and video quality, as well as with editing etc. Thanks for putting in the effort. I know you're pretty perfectionist when it comes to making videos, but I bet a lot of us will be happy to just listen to you talk about the van in a video shot from your smartphone and a pair of cheap earphones!

Hi Nathan, I've watched a few of your videos and they're pretty good. As someone who has fiddled around with cars (newish and quite old/classic) for many years (minor servicing to engine building) I can tell you that you DON'T really hav to go back to Japan for all your spares etc. I take your point, these are not as easy as a near new car and wouldn't suit most people because they couldn't be bothered with the hassle. In the 80's, an old Alfa Romeo 2000GTV I owned shared a BOSCH distributor with a Holden Sunbird, so I bought dizzy parts for my alfa from a Holden dealer. In these internet days, I was buying parts from a Mercedes wrecker in Germany who sells worldwide. Unless you're a perfectionist (and I suspect you are-nothing wrong with that) if you have to replace the windscreen washers, why not use/adapt local Hiace ones. In the car/bike restoration game if you can't get the part you want, make or adapt it. I've done this with Alfas, Rovers, Nissans, motorcycles etc. These would have to be the easiest vehicles to get parts for. Engines, transmissions, running gear are basically Prado/Hilux, seats can be adapted, panels may be a problem. And there are specialty wreckers for many brands. I had a Mitsubishi L300 van for many years/miles and loved it, not a patch on one of these. Having said all that, unless you're prepared to do some of the work yourself, then they can get very expensive, just like owning a vintage car. Pity these 4wd ones never came to Australia but I'm very temped to get one as I've just found one with Hi-Lo 4wd, that's gotta be rare. The main thing is drive ity and enjoy it. At the other end of the scale I knew a guy who restored a Lotus years ago, all he had at the start was a chassis plate, all depends how much work you want to do. cheers

Great video Nathan! I never knew about the ECT/overdrive issue when going up hill. Is this a habit which you need for all of the 100 series auto models?
@nathansharma87
@nathansharma87 2 года назад
It's very complicated. Overdrive is fine for all normal use and highway speeds above 80kph. If the cars labouring up a long long steep hill under 80kph it needs to be in 3rd overdrive off and the torque converter will lock up in third. But it won't lock if the ECT power button is on, but randomly it will lock 4th gears torque converter lockup with it on 🤷🏾. If it's a fast hill 100kph plus 4th is fine unless you are dropping speed and the cars really struggling, then you'll have to drop back to 80 ish, take overdrive off and ECT power off to get it locked up in 3rd. When the torque converter locks it stops the torque converter slipping which stops all heat build up in the gearbox and sends drive directly to the gearbox without slip so you make the most of engine output. Regardless of engine or type of vehicle it should apply the same principles for all 90s Japanese autos fitted with an overdrive switch.

Bro! Move to davinci resolve, it's free! Adobe is trash (I spent money to purchase it for one year at student prices and had nothing but issues). There's definitely a bit more of a learning curve with resolve but for most stuff it does the job quite easily and functionally. I have that same issue all the time with peace and quite, just this week I went to film my own car, went to 10 locations, every single time without fail no matter how remote someone would come and park behind me (Like how you explained in one of your other videos) or there would be some construction there or something. I had a dude pull up right behind me, and we're in the middle of this big kind of cul de sac area off the road and his whole family got out and started flying their drone. Had one dude stop his run to take a break right behind me and just stood there to watch what I was doing, so frustrating. Quality videos are great, and actually I loved this one, but honestly I'd watch you talking on the loo if it came to it because you've got some great info to share. That said, I think it's great that you take so much pride in your stuff. I'll be here whenever you return!
