In the space-colony simulation game Oxygen Not Included you’ll find that scarcities of oxygen, warmth and sustenance are constant threats to your colony's survival. Guide colonists through the perils of subterranean asteroid living and watch as their population grows until they're not simply surviving, but thriving...
Just make sure you don't forget to breathe.
Everything in your space colony is under your control, from excavation and resource allocation right down to plumbing and power systems. Resources will begin depleting with your first breath, however, so be sure to dig fast if you want to live.
Keep the psychological impact of survival at bay with fun leisure activities, great accommodations and even better food for your colony. Duplicants each have different and potentially destructive ways of reacting to stress, so be sure to always keep them happy. Whatever the cost.
Temperature control is a constant concern in space; too cold and you'll freeze, too hot and you'll fry. Keep tabs on ambient environmental temperatures and your colony's heat production to maintain a nice, cozy atmosphere for your colonists.
Create interlocking pipe systems to swiftly deliver fuel and liquid to critical areas of your base. Plan well and be rewarded as your colony transforms into an imperishable, well-oiled machine.
Choose from a multitude of power sources including coal, hydrogen, natural gas or just plain old elbow grease. Manage power runoff, circuit overloads and meltdowns to keep your colony running smoothly.
Enter the Oxygen Overlay and watch air moving through your base in real time. Monitor carbon dioxide accumulation and oversee oxygen generation processes to mold your colony into a veritable deep-space oasis.
Waste Nothing through Extreme Recycling
Make use of every last resource for a base that truly exemplifies efficiency. Recycle waste into precious fuel, process unbreathable gas into air or harness the natural bodily processes of wild creatures for food. If you’re clever, you might even be able to run a base off colonist farts.
Summon new worlds with a push of a button. Experience tons of untamed space rocks, then suffocate to death in them!

Howdy Foxy, as I am out of your SDV playthough to look at, i figured i would do some research for you here.... a couple tips: - You can hold doors open to eliminate the delay the doors cause without impacting the "room" bonus. - oxygen diffusers are really efficient and there really isn't any reason to not build 2-3 early game. - Ladders are cheaper than floors, allow drainage, and basically work the same, anywhere you want to quickly expand just toss in some ladders in a horizontal row rather than trying to tile it out. - research "Water cooler" and "potted plant" and make yourself a "Great hall" its an easy way to upgrade your mess hall early game and gives a really high Mood bonus. you can even disable the water cooler after its built and still get the room bonus w/o needing to refil. - the coal generator will burn the entire load of coal once lit so in general you want to use 5 jumbo batteries per coal generator to not waste any excess generated (before smart batteries); then set the threshold to 5%. - You can use your coal generator (which produces CO2) as a way to store food. Enclose the generator in a room, and just beside it put a 4 wide, 3 deep pit with 2 Ration Boxes, and ladders as a "bridge" at floor level. the produced CO2 will collect in the pit and preserve the food, and the excess will flow away. - Lastly once you have hydroponic farm tiles "Thimble reed" is a really efficient way to eliminate polluted water, you can find the seeds in the cracked rocks in the slime biome (if you don't already have one), and just plum them to your lavatories( ~1 reed per 2 lavatories). I'll keep going, but this should be a fun little sidebar to keep everything else fresh. I played a lot of Rimworld and this very much reminds me of it. :D

It looks like really early game you can just keep digging out the muckroot to keep your calories high, but then transition into Mealwood and finally Hatches. It appears that Hatches (specifically Stone Hatches from feeding sedimentary rock) are really efficient, once BBQ'd they produce about 4k calories per 6 days, so 2 hatches can support a single dupe, and a single ranching dupe can support ~20 hatches with otherwise inedible materials, 0 water, and a bonus of Coal. I've been watching a RU-vidr named Francis John who has a lot of tutorials with some really good tips and detailed descriptions if you want some more specifics. Enjoy :D

Oh my gosh, I had no idea you'd come help me with my ONI playthrough too! :D Thanks Bob! Good tip about the ladders, I hadn't thought of that! Also with the great hall stuff. I'll try to do that asap. I knew I wasn't quite right on the amount of batteries needed for the coal generator. I'll be sure to build a couple more. I need to re-watch Francis John's tutorial video where he explained the whole "food storage by the generator" thing cuz I remember it being a little tricky to set up the first time I did it. Thanks for the reminder though. :) I definitely did not know that about thimble reed!

@@FoxyFernGaming You actually derailed my recent RU-vid adventures. I started watching this playthough and decided it would be fun to research. This game is a CRAZY deep well of information and the game is only beginning by the time you establish self sufficiency. after that things get really crazy, with hundreds of cycles of details to manage. I look forward to seeing you tackle all the exosuit stuff. This also re-kindled my love of Rimworld, so thanks for that ;)

Haha, sorry not sorry for detailing you? :P I have Rimworld but I’ve only put a few hours into it. I don’t know why. I don’t not like it, just haven’t dedicated the time. I should someday.
