In this video, Nash relates his story about what it was like growing up as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and losing a brother to a tragic accident and the near fatal accident of his father. He talks about his decision to dedicate his life in baptism to the Watchtower organization as a result of these tragic events. His world really began crumbling down after losing another brother but this time to suicide.
Suicide is the most difficult loss to understand and leaves everyone in disbelief, confusion and indescribable turmoil. Nash can only describe it from his perspective because it is different from everyone else. He experiences a range of emotions and have cycled through bouts of anger, sadness, depressions & anxiety.
Time heals all wounds and with the proper support system and therapy, Nash has been working through the difficult times.

I was baptised as a child, married a pioneer just as I was told to do, endured 40 years of domestic abuse from my pioneer wife. I was a very good JW, I endured because I loved Jehovah and 'I would never grow old' and if I endured just a bit longer Jehovah would intervene and justice would be done etc etc. I begged elders for help, wrote to the branch, presented evidence and witnesses etc in abundance....they blamed me. No help, no assistance, no word of comfort, just blame and accusations. My children destroyed, my wife finally arrested by police and removed from the house, convicted in court of assault and battery, possibly even saving my life. May the vile governing body suffer as much as I have.

Idk man. You being a man I would imagine you are stronger no? Why would you let anybody hit you and not defend yourself? It doesnt matter if it is your wife or husband or mom or dad. Suicide rates are high amongst Jehovah's Witnesses. I knew a few, including my best friend. I was very close to doing it myself on 3 occasions, including when I had my awakening. But I've pulled through thanks to the exJW whistleblower channels such as this one, and also testimonials of brave people like you. Thank you.

I lost my little sister, (also a baptized sister in the organisation) to suicide. The organisation was mostly the cause of it, the relentless pressure and judgmentalism and her pioneer husband leading a double (homosexual) life was too much for her. I wish now i could tell her what I know now and show her the way out. Sadly, there are many of us with similar stories. This CULT destroys peoples lives, destroys families, the leadership and the elders are truly blood guilty.

Hi, I know I'm replying a yr later to your comments. I'm sooo sorry for your loss of your dear sister to suicide. It's such a big problem in 2days society in all walks of life. But when I 1st heard that shunning was causing witnesses to commit suicide both my friend n I came to the conclusion that this is wrong. Sadly they know n they don't care. That n so many other things going on, that u already know, like child sexual abuse was n still is a big wake up call to many of us. Life goes on n a yr has passed, it's still not a long time n your grieving now might be just certain things about her, a memory, a smell etc that remind u of her. Whatever stage your at, just know its ok. Grief, tragedy, its personal. It's your journey. Your sis with everything going on in her life needed professional help. A trained, caring professional that would listen to her. Unfortunately as u know now, like us through trial n error; they can only show u scriptures from the bible n refer to the elders book. They r not qualified in the complexity of mental health. N sadly many times r not loving sheperds but the opposite. I have wondered over the yrs why n discussed with my friend. Only conclusion we came to is a power thing. Position power, authority, training at elder school/ lack of training it goes to their head. Maybe at home the wife is the head of the house. At their job they r noone but in the cong, in the back room they r the authoritarian. In one session they can destroy a person's life, tear a family apart n not care. But the problem goes to the top of who gives them this power. I know my msg is long, but just know there's many people out there, like myself who do care about u n wish we could same to your little sister. Xxx

@Just Whatever Keeping young people from higher education is all about mind control and free dam labor. Idiot. Didn't Daniel and his companions get a higher education? Back in biblical times??? What is wrong with YOU!!!! STOP ALLOWING THIS CULT AND GB MEMBERS WHO DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU PERSONALLY run your life. See, that's what happens when 🤔 you don't get a higher EDUCATION. YOU DON'T DEVELOP YOUR CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS 🤔. If you like where you are then stay...continue being one of the 8 million slaves for the GB. Some people like yourself don't mind it. But I can sure tell you one thing God don't need your money or your field service time. Religion is ran like a BUSINESS. EXCEPT THE GB WILL NEVER HAVE TO PAY A SLAVE. BECAUSE YOU ARE GOOD FOR NOTHING AND WORTHLESS TO THE POINT THAT THEY WILL NOT EVEN HELP YOU WITH ONE RED CENT IF YOU NEEDED IT OR GET YOU OUT OF PRISON FOR STANDING UP FOR WHAT YOU THINK IS JEHOVAH WHEN REALLY ITS THE ORGANIZATION. Keep subjecting yourself to 😨 FEAR, OBLIGATION AND GUILT which equals F.O.G. you will ALWAYS BE IN A FOG UNTIL YOU DECIDE TO RESEARCH AND LOOK AT THE FACTS FOR YOURSELF. It’s been 7 years since I’ve seen most of my mothers side of the family that I grew up really close with. They have abandoned any type of contact with me when I decided I didn’t want to continue going to the Kingdom Hall. Even though they aren’t physically gone, they’re definitely emotionally gone for me. I remember “waking up” when I realized that they used this religion to conceal bad behavior and mental illness all while gas lighting me with a relationship while they were “out”or disfellowshipped and as soon as they decided to return, we were no longer allowed to communicate with each other. I’m still healing from the toxicity.

Water baptism is not necessary for your salvation, we must be baptized by the HOLY SPIRIT! The JW's deny the deity of our Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST - this is deadly: if you believe that our LORD s only a created being you can NOT be saved!!! JESUS CHRIST is GOD, see John 1! HE always existed with the FATHER and the HOLY SPIRIT = the GODHEAD or Trinity. Thank JESUS for paying for your sins on the cross and HIS resurrection on the 3rd day!!! It must come from the bottom of your heart then you will receive the HOLY SPIRIT. Listen to great evangelists lke Dr. John Ankerberg and Dr. David Reagan and their guests.

Tell me wasn't it fearful of Armageddon looming over our head every dam day. We are always saying at the meeting, “we in the last days, ” or the final days. It's a physiological ploy of cults enslavement. What if people knew Armageddon was a hundred years from now? How many would stay in the Jw.org? Not many. I remember when I was 7 years old A lady named Margaret who was a JW sister, who was insider our Kingdom Hall had use to take me to Chuck e cheese. Margaret was in her twenties or early 30s, and one time after we were done playing at Chuck e cheese's, we were walking to her car, and a male employee was asking her, when could I come over to your house to see you? This sister had explained to me, that not for me to repeat this to anyone, and therefore I had kept this a secret from everyone. The following week later, my dad had told me that I could no longer talk to Margaret. He said, if I ever talked to Margaret, that I would get the beating of a lifetime, and I know how his beatings were. They would consist of belting and/or standing in the corner for hours at a time. One day I saw Margaret at the kingdom hall, because they had announced that she was disfellowshipped. I when she saw me, she looked me in the eyes and I looked the other way, because I was afraid that my dad was watching me and I didn't want to be disciplined. To this very day, which is 30 years later, I feel full of regrets for doing that to Margaret.

WOW... My heart goes out to this guy.. He's been through sooo much! Although many points were brought up , and I could comment on many of them, the one that stands out, is about suicide.. how he described it is exactly how I felt from my early teens into my late 20's even though I had dissasociated when I was 22. I felt like I could never live up to the expectations of my parents, and most of all God. I just knew that God was going to kill me. So, I never valued my life. I lived day to day.. just surviving. And self medicating the hurt away , and many times praying that I wouldn't wake up in the morning. You are taught to believe that you are worthless.. you are only loved and accepted by your parents/ family and congregation + God, if you Are perfect.. or keep that perfect image . So you learn to lie, keep secrets.. the crazy thing is that in a normal world, the secrets a JW keeps really aren't secrets at all.. or something to be feared. But now, that guilt eats you up inside... And you feel even more unworthy, unlovable, unwanted.. That being six feet under doest seem that far... It’s a real fight for me at times to work through very negative and suicidal, hopeless thoughts and the root cause of it goes back to the false hopes and fake propaganda of watchtower’s enmeshments and how it so deeply affected me mentally - and I’m speaking as a convert! My heart goes out with utmost empathy to all those born into this captive entrapping organization that causes so much damage to members or associates of this cult that purports the “benefits” and sells the “accolades” of being a Jehovah’s Witness is somehow a “protection” when in reality the deeper we went and more seriously we were involved the more destruction it caused!

I’m traumatized in a way, because ALL MY LIFE I was thinking that I would never die. Also, my parents (both deceased now) would survive the “great tribulation “ and we would all live together forever. Now I’m retired, the last chapter of my life has arrived and it’s hard to swallow the pill that’s it’s not going to happen. Got baptized in 1970, seen and heard a lot, met wonderful people. I personally met people who were in concentration camps because of being JW’s. I decided to see a counselor now.

So I am looking for the truth I am a new JW bible student. I was expected to get baptized in the 2023 convention in Orlando but I declined to get baptized because have an uneasy feeling and I have questions about things that I find hard to believe that are thought by JW and WT . I want to know is paradise on earth a lie ? What does the bible mean when it states “ the they will inherit the earth and live on it forever “? Where do the dead go ? Is hell real or not ?
@irismoody7244
@irismoody7244 10 месяцев назад
Also I refuse to believe that shunning is godly or biblical at all.
@danielbrown2828
@danielbrown2828 9 месяцев назад
@irismoody7244 1.) I think biblically you can make a strong case that the bible teaches that the Kingdom of God will be established upon Earth for believers to inherit. E.g. Psalm 37:29, 'Paradise' However, on the balance of probabilities, it isn't true or going to occur in reality. 2.) Nobody knows 'where the dead go'. I encourage you to be very critical of anybody or organisation telling you that they do know. However, we do know what physically occurs to our bodies when we die. We decompose and our elements are recycled in nature. On the evidence available to us, it is much more likely that this is the only life you will receive. Use it wisely 😇 3.) Is hell real ? Again, nobody knows but I encourage you to only believe in things that are proven with evidence. Hell has no evidence to suggest its exists and JW's actually teach that people just die. I think this doctrine is at least biblically accurate. 4.) Bonus question: Is shunning biblical? Jesus was a very divisive individual and remains so in the 21st century. Scriptural evidence to support my viewpoint: Luke 14:26 - Jesus says: "If you come to me but will not leave your family, you can not be my follower' 2Corinthians 6: 14 - 17 - "What partnership does righteousness have with lawlessness?" - "Therefore go out from their midst and be separate from them". 1 Corinthians 5:11 - Talking about followers of Christ who are sinful: "Not even to eat with such a one" I hope anything I said helps you on your journey. I encourage you to continuously think critically about what this organisation is trying to teach you. I find it promising that you are asking questions whilst seeking the truth. Keep up the great work. Enjoy your life 😊

I can relate to this guys story. I remembered when I was 16 yrs old being born in the organization where all your family is in it and all you know was just it JW 24/7 to the core. All the convo by family members is full of scriptures. They give choices and you have to make a choice to take secular education or pioneering or bethelite that's the only option I got. I choose the first option pursued education got myself disfelowedship but man the guilt trip...that memory lane of the term materilism belief that hunts me. I have a sister who stayed on wasted 20 years of her life and finally realizing she got nothing to show for not even a family. In that regard I was glad to stumble to this video because it really hits home! I'm glad I did not cowed down to those 3 Elders at that time. My life would have been so miserable and full of regrets today.

Nash you made a point that stood out to me that I never recognized! You said if a person is not going to “do” all the things the Org says we should be doing we would be better off dead. The Org plants that thought Roms 6:7 if we die it wipes out all our “sin” which means to some our sin is not wanting to be on the Orgs treadmill. We can’t keep up with it and are so tired of the heavy burden of constantly talking about Armageddon, death, and pioneering etc. The Org robs us of enjoying our life free from guilt and feelings of unworthiness! That’s before the shunning and loss of family- your brother is not the only active JW who has committed suicide- there are so many I know. So sorry for your loss and everyone who has loss someone to this religion. Cruel mind games they play

I'm so glad these sweet and compassionate people are wanting to help others who have endured similar hardships, and give their time to talk so openly. Can you imagine, what this young man and his family have been through, is going on thousands of times around the world because of this horrendous high control cult. I remember when we first started studying in 1985 (before we had the internet), we'd hear something about shunning and disfellowshipping and start asking questions. Suddenly our friendly married couple Bible teachers who would spend hours talking freely about everything, would hem and haw and try to change the subject! They have many methods and techniques to entangle people and deliver them to WT all bound up like a bird in a fishing line - helpless.

My mom is in this Cult. I was raised in it. Baptized in '08, out in '16. I never really wanted baptism, but people were coming in getting baptized and I'm thinking what is it I'm not seeing. Perhaps I'll get a revelation after baptism. NOT! I simply quit going cold turkey and told my mother I wasn't going back cause I don't believe they're the truth with all the deception beneath the foundation. Of course she didn't like it. Then, she acted like it was going to be the end of our relationship. I then said to her, it makes NO SENSE to not talk to me just because I don't believe what you believe. If you believe this is the truth, that's YOUR TRUTH. My truth is I don't believe it, so...that makes MY TRUTH wrong? I then said, that's like me telling you a certain restaurant has the best steaks in town, you try out the restaurant to see for yourself and tell me you're not impressed and don't think they have the best steaks in town at all. So, I'm going to stop speaking or associating with you because you don't agree with me??? I said, reconcile that for me. At any rate, I have a relationship with my mother, we talk all the time. I think she thought about it and realized how RIDICULOUS that is to stop talking to someone because they don't agree with what you may agree with. Her love for me is STRONGER than the pull of Watchtower! They didn't win this one! I have a relationship with both my parents AND siblings (with a brother and sister in this NONSENSE as well). @Just Whatever In my personal experience, I've seen many marks of lack of respect by JW's: Entering private homes, (without any invitation) by the backyard entrance and interrupting family gatherings to push their literature. Knocking time after time at the same door even after the resident of that house has told them several times not to come back, because he or she was not interested in their message. Insisting and pushing, even after a 'student' told them she or he did want to stop 'studying' their literature. Insinuating that any person will be destroyed by God if she or he doesn't comply with their own 'biblical" theories. Insisting and pushing, by instilling fear and guilt in people's minds. They do it until they get what they were told to do, (time after time) in their meetings. Yes, another baptized member, caught in their religious trap. I could keep going, but I'll stop here. Nash nailed it at the 1hr 20 mark. You need to put in the work to do the research to prove to yourself it’s not the so called truth even before you watch a video etc. Therefore you mitigate the mental and emotional fall out from leaving this high control group. Otherwise it’s like an anchor pulling you back Nash says. Very wise words! Born in’s face extra challenges in that respect and his brother paid a horrible price for that. The organisation counts on that anchor to pull you back in that’s why you get the harassment to come back. Some idiot MS calls me at 9.00 on a Monday morning I was on the phone to someone else so throughout the convo he just continues to ring so he was getting the engaged tone for at least 20 mins. When I finished the convo my phone rings. I ignore it so he texts says you are ignoring my call like I don’t work! Haven’t been at a meeting for year and half but circuit overseer is coming you see. As it’s a business and one of the managers is coming to examine the company accounts they want to locate the absent employees! You need to fully prove to yourself that this company is fraudulent otherwise you won’t be at peace. It’s clear that the people who do that have less turbulent outcomes. Thanks to Lady Cee and JT for assisting in this process worldwide. I wish Nash (and partner) all the best!

Hi I was only two min into this vid when I saw an elephant in the room. I remember Watchtower articles and publications going back to 1975 when I joined the cult. As a young man I was interested in finding a girl and getting married. I actually married a girl just turned 18 amid a torrent of critique that I have to concede was absolutely on target. Because we were divorced three years later. The advice from elders and the publications and Bible all said that it's wise to be"past the bloom of youth" and there were enough reasonings to fill a book in that at that a person in their teens was too immature and unsettled to make a decision that would effect the rest of your married life. (In my case 3 years). The obvious disparity screams as loud as thunder. How can you be too young to get married at 18 yet old enough to be baptized at 11 (in some cases 7). For a baptized person to even raise this question with an elder and not accept the contorted reply will get you in that back room faster than you can say Armageddon. JWs are programmed to not think. Ironically the publication "Reasoning from the scriptures" has nothing to do with it. It's about steering conversations into Watchtower approved dogma. Good luck with your relatives. I suggest you read Stephen Hassan's book on cult mind control. The control techniques are ubiquitous across all cult platforms they are just in different strengths, colors and labels.

Thank you soooo much for doing this interview and putting yourself out there. I'm making this comment almost through your entire video and about the watch the last part of it. You are sooo honest about your journey and I love it. I felt soooo heart broken myself on my own journey out of the Watchtower. To make a long story short, my family was abusive/dysfunctonal. Some of the JWs in my congregation knew it and tried sheltering me from it as much as they could, while following the JW rules. Because of this, I felt like 'Jehovah' was protecting me or watching over me, as long as I was following all of the rules. But after awhile of doing everything I was supposed to according to the org, I felt like he wasn't blessing me because I wanted to be married to "the right one", and if I did everything I was supposed to, while witnessing others hypocrisy, and they seemed to get what they wanted, how come it seems like I have to wait longer. I genuinely believed and did my best to follow, but somehow felt that the "spiritually weak" ones got more out of life. I also felt laughed at for following the rules. My whole story is a whole lot longer than this. Anyways, just wanted to share, thank you for sharing this

My heart goes out to this family and all those JWs that committed suicide. It's so sad to hear about your tragedy. Prayers for you!

I felt exactly like his brother. I tried to be the good witness. I just didn't find any joy in doing it. I hated field service, giving talks being told to have Bible studies and I never wanted to be a teacher. I was told just to pray more and read the scriptures and all that made me do is feel less adequate. I felt that even going through the motions I couldn't happily serve god and the only reason I was doing it was for everlasting life. Thought it would be easier taking my life to be in the new world than trying to be a witness. Definitely a dark place to be in.

Hahahaha glad it was recorded. Nash I have family who r JWs in Grand Prairie, Ab. I really enjoyed your experience, so sorry to hear of your brother. Grief never goes away unless of course your a JW. You can just flick on/off like light switch, pretend it never happened. I really enjoy your interviews Lady Cee an JT. Keep them coming!

I blame 100% the Watchtower for suicide cases like this.

Love your illustration of the anchor Nash at 1:20 do your own research break your own chains. I relate to your experience of addiction and mental health. For me the big one for people is too totally lose assumption that JW was wrong so there is no God and whether the Bible is his preserved words. It is a completely separate issue which every one should approach free from bias. Personally I am now a Christian and had my conversion experience while still Physically in the organisation though mentally out. Listening to Christian apologetics would help people see that denominational disagreements are very different in Christianity a certain viewpoint may be held Calvinism vs Baptist vs Lutheran yet most would still fellowship and learn from each other. The difference is that a Christian will want to hear your testimony or the reason you know you are born again or “saved”. Unlike Stephen Lett who will not tell you. Love to all and pray that you find peace after surviving a false religious cult.

What a tragic story. I am so glad you have been able to handle it this far. Getting baptized at 11 is such a hard choice to place on a child. The only thing I can say is I learned to make sure I planned for a future. After the 1975 fail I realized that I needed to make a career and make sure I planned for my future retirement. I only hope there is some way for your family to heal.

I remember feeling waves of depression over the years as life opportunities were shut off. Humans need community, but unless humans are not truly valued as responsible humans, capable of being personally responsible, being part of a community can be stunting, deadly, even. "I will judge you INDIVIDUALLY according to your deeds." No group judgment.

Thank you for sharing. Your story is familiar to me. It's hard to be alienated from your family because you choose to believe and live differently. It's hard when they require you to accept and respect their freedom to be a witness however , It's unacceptable to them and a spiritual crime for a family member of age to seek their own path and spiritual freedom in a life that belongs to you!. FORGIVE them, they know not what they do! Nash you are brave for telling the truth. I know what you are saying to be true. I have witnessed the type of issues you are describing.

Dear Nash: when I talked in 1999, June 5, I changed. The Watchtower has no answer for MAJOR DEPRESSION, because they are part of the problem. The Allopathy has no solution! The Pharmaceutical Industry has no answer for it. Stay strong and heal further

I have never been religious, was never taught to follow any faith. I’m 30 yrs old. I have never tasted alcohol, smoked cigarettes/weed, no hard drugs & I don’t even like taking prescription drugs like vicodin (after knee surgery) or epidurals, two child labors. I was raised by two very righteous parents who taught me to have morals, values, principles. I try my best to be what I was raised to be. To be a decent human being that cares for others & myself. In 2016 I graduated college as valedictorian.

I had a best friend and I told her that I was attracted to men because I trusted her. She went and told half the hall that I had demons I was fighting. She made mother question everything I did. I was a grown man. I was so happy to leave the hypocrisy people had and be happy with myself.

I really relate to Nash's overwhelming guilt. Anything and everything you do is hurting everyone. Including blaming yourself for suicides. I feel you Nash 100% and I wish you & your wife, kids, step kids, nieces and nephews the very, very best in life. Edit: love your 🐱!!

I went through soooo much 'shame', on my journey out from the witnesses. I grew up loving everyone in my congregation as a little girl. I wanted to spread love. I faithfully studied the "Family Happiness" book hoping it would help with my very messed up family. I followed ALL of the rules, which puts you in a very uncomfortable position of being judged for following all of the rules, but simply not wanting to be a hypocrite if you believe they're right. But when you leave, oh man, you have to acknowledge soooo much more about actual reality of life on this planet around you.

Russell B.Hayes was right the first time: Religion IS a snare and a racket. I'd even go so far to say it's a con game...a very elaborate one.

There were many times I came close to suicide because I felt the same, that I wasn't worthy of living since I was not zealous about the "truth". I was never baptized because I knew I wasn't going to live a perfect life and left the organization in my mid twenties. I struggled with depression, panic attacks and suicidal thoughts for many years until now, in my late 40s, I've discovered the religion I was born into is just a lie and a cult. My heart goes out to this man for the loss of his bother. My nephew came very close to suicide after he was disfellowshiped, his second marriage ended and was being shunned by certain family members. The dark cloud has lifted from him, meet a wonderful woman and has a baby girl and is finally happy. I think he's still having some lingering issues from also being a born-in JW and I reassure him that everything is ok. The JW "religion" is very dangerous to people's mental and emotional well being.

I have read so many comments of abuse etc its so sad you have all experienced these things. My mum is JW i was raised in it, never baptised, but for my own reason, to be being baptised is when you devote yourself to serving Jehovah. I left when i was 17 and i went out to the world, im 36 and im trying to find my way back to the truth. Some of the things iv heard from the video and also read in the comments i have never experienced in our congregation or not even from my mum. We have to remember we arent perfect human beings, build your own bond with Jehovah, if its the teachings that you dont believe well then i guess its up to you. But i do encourage you sll to PRAY pray for help & guidance. ✌️
