A few hastily thrown together drive by and interior clips of the uncommon combo of a 996 with fister modified mufflers and M&M Exhaust GmbH's catless x-pipe, purchased through FVD Brombacher (All shot in Mexico... on a closed course... with a trained driver). Apologies for the mish mash of footage. I'll post something better when time allows.
First 3 clips are with an iphone, interior clip is gopro. The 3rd clip really shows how unobtrusive this setup is when you are not on the gas hard. Unfortunately the catless x-pipe does feel like it loses significant torque from 2800-3800 rpm, but by 4k the engine pulls much harder than before, all the way to 7k.
Generally speaking I think the 3.6's power curve feels much flatter approaching 7k compared to the 3.4, but this mod seems to change that. The 3.6 now feels happiest above 4k and builds thrust to all the way to 7k. The increase in power at approx 4k is dramatic, almost like an old vtec motor. Now you want to drive it like an S2000 instead of riding the mid-range torque.
Unfortunately due to the flat spot around 3k, I might swap back to crossover cats as that is a critical RPM on slow autocross courses. If I did more track than autocross work, this mod would be an absolute no brainer.
