@Earl Jones Since I read your comment, I've been looking into the phenomenon of ROGD, and there's a lot to be said for troubled kids grasping for labels when they want a clear way of defining themselves. I never knew it to exist during my time at school, but I did go to a rather small secondary school, and the general air of the place urged LGBT people to keep their heads down and their mouths shut. If any of my friends were trans, it was never spoken about, and yet here I am. (Questioning, as a lot of people do most aspects of their lives, but the jury's still out.)

I live in Denmark and my first girlfriend, D, was an immigrant and she didn't speak any Danish, so we spoke English together. She didn't have any family in Denmark, so I invited her to spend Christmas with my family. But of course that meant I had to come out to my (at the time) 80 year old grandmother. So, I told her on the phone "D is actually not just my friend. She is my girlfriend. And she is going to celebrate Christmas with us this year." And my grandmother blurted out "Oh no!" And my heart skipped a beat before she continued "... my English is so horrible! How am I going to talk to her". My 80 year old grandmother was more concerned about the fact that she couldn't get to know my girlfriend because of a language barrier than she was about finding out her granddaughter is queer 🥺🥺

I'm part of a small lgbt community at my sixth form, and occasionally we'll have a "gay club" meet up with this badass lesbian from the youth commission about tackling homophobia, transphobia, etc in the school. We discussed how an unexpected response can help make people casually using phobic language think harder about how the language they use might pertain to people around them. SO .... A dude in my class called someone a fa***t, and *my initial reaction was to turn around, make direct eye contact, and calmy say, "You called?"* Pure shock, fear, and confusion in his eyes.. This is how I came out as trans, I made sure that the announcement of the beginning of the experiment and the results were publicly posted so that others would know what to call me, and yet somehow I still get people going "what??? but you don't _SEEM_ Autistic!!!" when I tell them I'm Autistic.

like ten years ago I got on the topic of gay marriage with my grandma (at the time it wasn't federally legal here in the US) and she just went into a full-on rant about how stupid it was for gay marriage to be illegal, paused for half a second and asked "are you gay?" then went right on back into her rant when I squeaked out a lil "yeah" to her question.

I didn't officially 'come out' at any one moment as asexual because it was already kind of obvious how clueless I've been about dating and related issues, but I just slowly over time introduced my parents to more memes and information about asexuality in casual conversations. It wasn't intentional either, just happened that way. Since, they started speculating about other family members that could be ace based on their lack of dating history or interest in the opposite OR the same sex (they thought the latter avenue was an explanation at first). My mom also suggested multiple times that I start some kind of diversity initiative for our church as well, and I think I might. We are already very open and accepting of all minorities, but they don't exactly make that very obvious, so it might still be hard for any minority person to realize they are welcome and not alone. I could do like, an awareness or informative thing, hold meetings, advise on sensitive issues, etc. Doesn't sound too bad! I'm very glad my parents are always so nice and supportive.

Here’s a story about how friggin’ dense I am: So my mom is Christian and she used to not be lgbt-favorable. I came out to her as asexual first because I thought she would just think that’s a normal thing. When I told her, she asked me, “Okay, what does that mean to you?” I was surprised, but I stuck to the same narrative in my head. Then, a while later, we were on a family trip for something and one morning at the motel I was really wanting to come out to her as non-binary, so I asked my sister about it and she was like, “Seriously? Mom was literally ranting last night about how terrible it was that that one RU-vidr was forced to out herself as trans.” (I DID hear that rant, btw; I was just literally such a dumbass that I couldn’t put two and two together) So then it finally clicked and I realized that I had been assuming things about my mom for some time, which was unfair to her. She’s really grown over the years and I’m so proud of her. But yeah, there’s my coming out story ig, lol

@@marox9478 Hey! For me it took several months of really thinking into it and looking into lots of different gender identities and testing out words before I found exactly who I feel I am and have been. It took me a bit to feel properly comfortable with the label of trans guy though, not because that’s not who I am, but because knowing exactly who that part of me is was very new. Now with more thought and research I’ve gotten a lot firmer in my idea of who I am and I’m much for comfortable with myself and my concluded identity. I recommend not trying to force any label or feel like you have to restrict your feelings to fit into how exactly you think you must be for a certain label. Just try things out and see what feels comfy. Take your time, there is no time limit, we’re all different people so how much time it takes is going to be very different. And please try not to be too afraid of your label for your identity changing as you grow and learn, because that’s ok, it’s all a part of figuring yourself out, and that takes time and tests. I recommend checking out Miles Chronicles on RU-vid if you haven’t already for some good videos and things on this too, I’ve found his videos and advice very comforting and helpful in realizing my gender.

I remember asking to get baptized in a Southern Baptist Church (don't ask, I'm just freaky like that) and hitting a wall when the pastor, first off, thought I was gay, which I am, but then second off, when I told him I was trans, he assumed that meant MtF. I laughed and corrected him but I don't think he actually believed me. Up to that point it had never occurred to me that everyone in that church took it at face value that I was a guy, and I was kind of shocked, to be honest. (Though I probably shouldn't have been. There's no way they would have let me attend the men's weekly bible study if they didn't.)

All of my coming out stories are mostly depressing, but i remember one that was wholesome. It was sixth or seventh grade, and one evening i was chatting online with my best friend. At that point our conversations were for the most part just complaining about life to each other, and so we did. I told him that i was feeling down for the longest time, and he asked me what was wrong. Accidentally, his words rhymed. So i picked that idea up and composed all my following texts with rhyme and rhythm, and so did he. The coming out was a success, fortunately, and i was left with a full-fledged poem :) By the by, im a trans guy

Yo I got a pro tip for anyone who's anxious and looking to come out: Text who you're coming out to, and put "I love you" at the very end. They won't wait to respond to the whole thing and just start by saying I love you back to you, then if they're going to say anything else say it later. Source: I've come out six times (I was confused on my gender and my parents are divorced, so I came out genderwise twice and sexuality once but double that because I did it seperately for the different sides of the family) and this trick worked every time especially since my dad's side is super religious.

My father invited me to have dinner with him and his new girlfriend. During the dinner, he kept asking me, if I had a boyfriend. I kept denying and he kept making comments about how I just want to keep it secret from him, because all girls my age have boyfriends... after a while of this, his gf chimed in by saying surely I'll find a nice boy eventually and I just replied: "Maybe... there's this cute girl in my class though, but I'm too scared to ask her out..." and before she could even respond my dad just stood up, food still on his plate, lit a ciggarette and left. He came back after 2 hours and didn't talk to me for the rest of the day. His gf just told me, that she's sure I'll find the right person someday. And that's how my homophobic father found out I'm not straight and I ruined his relationship with that woman. She seemed nice so I thought I should expose some of my fathers fatal flaws before she makes any mistakes... My father however kept bugging me about having a boyfriend, because he was in denail about me being a lesbian, in his eyes... and then last year, he had to stay at a hospital and asked me to come over... I told him I couldn't because I'd much rather spend time with Loki. At first he asked me if I was actually hanging out with a norse god... then he asked me, if he was my boyfriend, and I said no, because at the time we weren't dating yet. Later that week, after enduring more of his constand bullshit (sorry for the language), I finally brought up the courage to tell him something else, because I wanted to cut ties for a long time and he kept coming back to bother me... I texted him "Hey, you have two sons now." and he replied: "Loki, as my son in law?" and then I replied: "No. Do you even know what LGBTQ stands for?" he didn't and I explained it, finishing with "I'm two of those, the B and the T." He told me that that's rubbish and that I should stop lying to him. I told him to take me seriously and respect me, or to stop bothering me, because while he might be my biological father, he never was a father figure. He blocked me on... everything. He still hasn't come crawling back to me, and I'm just fine with that. Coming out to my mom was kinda funny too. Me: "Hey mom?" Her: "Yes?" Me: "There's this girl I like..." Her: "Okay." Me: "..." Her: "What did you expect me to say?" Me: "I dunno... I'm just... going to go back to my room then..." And when I came out as trans I just walked into the kitched and asked: "Hey, what would you do if I was a guy?"she replied "Nothing. Why would I do anything?" and I told her "Becase I think I might be trans..." she just said "Well that's not really any of my business. I just hope you figure something out." and I just said "Okay...", as I turned to leave. She refuses to use the correct pronous and name, but says she doesn't care. My brother wasn't very interesting but kinda funny. Our mom left us in the car in some random parking lot for a while and he asked me, if I thought he might be gay, because he was into this other guy and I turned to him and said "I don't know I never had a crush on a guy before" and he just lost his shit and screamed "I KNEW YOU WEREN'T STRAIGHT!" When I came out as trans he just told me he never actually thought of me as a girl and that it was kinda weird to hear that, but he kept trying to call me his brother, until we stopped talking, because everyone in my family hates each other for no discernable reason. Also, all of my friends thought I was already out when I came out as trans I was just left there, pretty damn flabbergasted... Sorry for the long comment and any eventual spelling or grammar mistakes, it's pretty late and english isn't my first language.

This isn't funny so much as heartwarming. So, when I first started questioning my gender, i talked to my mother, and she did not understand. Very homophobic and transphobic, and i'm not sure how she'll handle it when i go on t, but i'll burn that bridge when i get to it. So a year or so goes by, and I text my step mother about it. I kind of hint around at it, unsure how to come out and explain it. I knew she'd likely be supportive, my older step brother is gay and she is so loving and supportive for him... So i say "well, i just never felt much like a woman. the idea of being a guy feels more right." and she answers straight away "yeah i know." So i'm just sitting there staring at my phone, looking like i'm trying to pull college-level calculus out of my ass. Turns out she had an aunt who was trans girl. This was like! 40 years ago!! so hearing about that, and how she understands it a little already was like an out of body experience. and then she drops another one on me. "why do you think i had your nieces call you (masculine version of birth name)?" I was like ???? it's shorter???? She said "no, i knew. a mother always knows." and i just cried. My mother, who raised me from birth, refuses to understand or respect my identity... but my Mom has apparently been waiting more than ten years for me to figure out what she already knew.

I've never felt like a woman. I have always been more like a guy. Do you think I may be trans because your feelings match how i currently feel. I have never pushed the thought but my med provider thinks I may be. My grandma passed a few years ago and when I told her she thought the med provider was a loon so I promised my grandma that I would be her granddaughter as long as she lived since i respect her. I've gotten so used to ignoring my body and tend to forget I am female so when my period comes it is annoying. So is this a possible sign I am trans. I haven't heard any trans men speak about their periods like forgetting every month. Heck I don't wear bras and don't know my size. Lol.

@@meltaylor7984 I understand what you mean about hiding it for others and pretending you don't feel anything. I did that for a while too, a lot longer than i ever meant to. And yeah, i forget my cycle every month and it always hits me like a brick to the face. My one solace is that if i go on t i might not have them anymore and i'm depending on that. As for whether or not you're trans, yourself, there are a few things to think about. One, while dysphoria IS NOT a prerequisite to be trans, it can help you identify if you are. Likewise, gender euphoria if you are perceived as male/masculine by someone, or the like. One thing that tipped me off, for example, is that i realized i always identified with boy characters in video games and books, and that even as a kid i had many reasons why being a boy would be more appealing, way before puberty. That being said, I was pushed to be very femme and grew up being hyper-femme in some aspects, i guess to make up for how nothing really felt right. That's actually common, too, for some trans masc ppl to over-perform femininity, similar to how lots of closeted gay ppl do, to mask parts of themselves they were taught to feel bad about. A good first step to figuring out what you want is to think about what you're feeling and why. About like, anything. If you're feeling upset, sit down and think of why. If you're happy, sit down and think of why. and if you feel weirdly numb, especially, sit down and think of why. It sounds so weird and nebulous, but i promise it helps. Self-awareness is a weird and nebulous thing.

@@meltaylor7984 I adore her too. As for whether having more testosterone than other ppl is influencing you, i'd lean toward probably not. It seems like you've been taught to rationalize things to the point you don't really acknowledge your own feelings. How you feel is important, and although it is hard to step away from the support of people who might think they know best, no one will ever know you better than you can know yourself. sometimes i still question whether i'm trans or genderfluid or something, and i've been questioning and figuring it out for 6 years now, really. It's a normal part of the process to second guess yourself and be afraid of change and everything that comes with it. Either way, whatever you decide or discover, i promise you you're not alone. even if i'm just some weirdo on the internet, I'm here. And the funniest thing is, once you become aware of what to look for, you find it everywhere. I'm not sure i believe in that "law of attraction" stuff, but i've met a lot more people like me since coming out.

I too tend to play as male characters and tend to be one for the long term. So relieving to know that someone else is similar to me.

I remember when I came out to my mum as bi and her reaction was 2 things: 1. I know, you were very obvious. At 16 you wouldn't stop talking about how smart and attractive your new classmate was. 2. Just please give me grandkids Edit: A word

i just got in touch with my old friend, i don't use whatsapp that much so i ask her if she has twitter so i can dm her through there. she said, "oh sure, here's my @. but uh... don't mind me being.. queer." i was like ??? but didn't reply, she continued, "oh fuck it, i know you read boys love mangas. so hi i'm lesbian." i became even more confused because the reason she's open to me because i read bl? lmaoo. and of course i replied, "well i have good news for you, you're not alone. i'm bi." it's just funny to me that we didn't talk for years then suddenly come out to each other unprompted like that

I showed up to a holiday dinner with a woman and we were wearing matching engagement rings. I didn't start a conversation about it, and surprisingly nobody asked. It didn't get brought up at all the whole evening. My cousins were not surprised when I officially came out the better part of a year later, because they were observant and grew up with the internet. My mother and younger sister were completely blindsided. My brother just looked at me silently for a few seconds, before asking about my best friend in highschool who'd had sleepovers with me like three times a week. My older sister -- who had been showing up to family functions with her "roommate" for like four years -- said nothing and fist bumped me.

I'm ftm and got mistaken for mtf too. When I started at a new job, I had been on T for a few months, but still had "female" in my ID. And because my chosen name is quite gender neutral too, everyone just thought I'm a woman. I was really scared to come out, but when I finally did tell a co-worker, he said, "Oh... So how long have you been living as woman?" I laugh at it now, but back then it was like a stab in each of my organs. 😅

I came out to my parents on New Year's Eve, so I guess I really put new year, new me into practice there.
