I've been spending 20 hours in the game and im at op 6 the game has amazing story and cool monsters and dragons plus you can customize your girls to be in another costume like maid,idol,school uniform, swimsuit. Trust me its good

This RPG is up next after Octopath.

I been playing Shining Resonance Refrain and Octopath Traveler, back and forth. Both arr fun.

I watched this review before I got the game. Now I'm about to start chapter 5, I'm watching it again and I think you're spot on about the game. Very fun, very nice to play and it's for people who like grinding (thankfully I like grinding). Music is pretty good and I suggest people raise the volume in the mixer, because there are many great songs, but they get drowned by the sound effects.

Really nice review video RGT 85. I've played the Demo of Shining Resonance on the Nintendo Switch and thought the game was really good n fun but I have put it on my back burner list for now cuz playing afew other games at the mo.

Nice video Shawn! It’s a shame that games like the Shining series are almost never localized. I think if more games came stateside, it’d be more prominent.

I played Shining Force and Shining Force II back in the day on the Sega Channel. The series has stuck with me after all these years.

I love this game especially the character and dialogue but I do have some aspects of the game, as follows: Back up party don't get experience points. U have to do pointless walk to the story destination, since you can't teleport to it. When there is a fog, you literally can't see anything, at first I thought my copy is broken. Lots of repeated mission, dialogue, sometimes not nassecary, sometimes good. Some control feels ackward, like running and using items in battle Overall is an easy game, if the game mechanic can be adjusted, it will be good for everyone

One Rpg that needs to be moved to the Switch is Arc Rise Fantasia. I'd love another chance to officially beat it 😁

I'm with you RGT 85 I bought this on my Switch not that Octopath is bad I just liked this ones art more. Not a fan of the pop up book look but I will get Octopath one day to see if the story is good. I hope I did not up set to many people with that commit if so I'm sorry but we all have our own taste in things.

I've been playing both Shining Resonance Refrain and Octopath Traveler and I have to say I like SRR more but both are great games imo! The game definitely isn't for everyone but if you just want a solid JRPG with action combat, it's worth picking up

I really like it. Sure, it has its flaws like a lot of games, but it is very fun.

I'm really liking the game so far but I'm still trying to figure out the resonance and bonds/trait stuff

I played the demo when it first launched, I liked it, it reminded me of a combination of Megaman X Command Mission and Tales of Games with gorgeous character models. I might get it later. Usually if I do not really want a game, I just wait for Christmas or birthday since the stuff I really want I get day one like Octopath Traveler which so far is the worst version of Bravely Default and a lot worse to Bravely Second. Bravely properly updates the turned based RPG system and removes the unneeded stuff that makes you groan in random encounter turn based RPGs.

Already bought it based on the demo. Well, mostly the demo. Tony Taka's art doesn't hurt. Since I'm still going through HWDE though I now have Ys VIII, SRR, and OT waiting on the immediate back burner.

So out of Shining Resonance Refrain, Tales of Vesperia, Ni No Kuni II and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is the funnest, for those who have played? They seem very similar, aside from slightly different battle systems. (I already have Octopath)

I want to check it out for sure. I might wait until it's on sale. Just not sure what system I want it on. I just wish the Shining series would get back to its true roots...Shining Force.

Pick up both on the same week (Really like Octopath Traveler ) and I've Like Shining Resonance Refrain. haven't took the time to play either recently.

Once I started Shining Resonance Refrain I NEVER touched another game until i beat it & now I'm playing it in refrain mode to get Excella's ending & I agree with you on everything about the camera being a bit nuts, they should of explained the level cap for bosses, & other things like that. Another thing I didn't like was when buying items you could only get a max of 5 of 1 item but a max of 10 or 20 of another. Also I HATED the time Lestin & Agnum had to do that diversion while the others snuck in, with that they should of had is 2 groups of 3 & make you decide on who was going to be in each group. I remember doing that in Tales of Symphonia.

Hmm. It reminds me of StarOcean when it comes to combat being able to switch between the characters during the real time battles.

Okay so I just finished this game on switch. Here are my thoughts: Story wise, it's cliche. The dating sim aspect is actually pretty fun and the interactions between characters is nothing short of charming. The music is pretty good, and the art style is among my favorites. The 3D models of the characters are well-designed. However, the story feels rushed in the second half. The first half is honestly very good. The second half feels like it was written in 5 minutes. The superbosses are incredibly easy even on hard mode once you do egg-level grinding. The ending of the story is nothing short of disappointing. Many strings left untied, and several confusing points left untouched. The game relies on sheer level difference to build its difficulty outside fo boss fights, somewhat like Pokemon. Bosses are legitimately fun to fight, but ANY of them can be cheesed with a certain long-range character you acquire relatively early on in terms of the difficulty spikes. Overall, the game is long, but only because you have to manually walk back on one of two overworld map paths EVERY DAMN TIME. There is no fast travel except to go BACK to the main city and this easily doubled the length of the game, which feels cheesey and artificial. The areas themselves are nice, however, very reminiscent of the Tales Of series.Overall, I enjoyed playing the game, but it felt like MANY corners were cut, and the combat was only a bit rewarding. 6/10.

I only played the demo for a bit, but I was immediately put off by the battle system. It felt way too stiff to me.

I want to give this game a go, but I really think the release date of this one might have hurt it some. Came a little bit after Ys VIII and a little bit before Octopath Traveler, and many of us got Ys VIII close to launch, beat it, then immediately jumped into Octopath as we had been planning. As a result this one fell through the cracks. I'll still play it later but I'm not sure when I'll get to it since it's a bit lower on my priority list.

You didn't find the controls a bit clunky like I did? Also of note, the rampage as a dragon mechanic stops about halfway through the story mode.

It seems like Ys 8 would be a better choice than this when it comes to action JRPGs. Sure Ys 8 is a little more expensive but that extra bit goes a long way in terms of quality when comparing these two.

Damn. I'm still playing xenoblade chronicles 2. I love that game....

The game is quite good imo The PS3 had quite a few good JRPGs at the end of it's life that never got localized or did and were forgotten. The combat is a bit stiff but the systems that feed into it are pretty interesting, especially the Bond Chart, sadly this came out within a week of Octopath so I'm torn between playing them.

Just got the game. Hope to not be dissapointed I do love the Shining GBA games.

You should be able to switch characters using the d-pad. Maybe they can fix it with a patch

I got SSR for both ps4 and switch and i love it $39.99 for all the dlc in the game and the idea of mobs. And bosses becoming more powerful then you im fin with it make me thinking how to counter i just that the ai wasn't so dumb at times

I am not a fan of Turned Based RPGs so Octopath Traveler was an easy skip for me. I got Ys VIII now and wanted to get this game later but when I found out stock in South Africa is running dry really quickly I got it way earlier than anticipated. I love this game, it is really awesome. I am still too much into Ys VIII to play this a lot right now but this is really something worth getting in my opinion.

I finally have a Switch now Ya !!!!! So I'm playing this game. I got this game a year ago. I love the game! I also got Zelda BotW and Octolath . I will admit I love my Switch but I am scared to death of it. It's heavy and I don't want to hold it where it could fall and break. So over the bed or the couch if it's not in the doc sofar. I think I'm going to be a nervous wreck when I finally take it out anywhere. LOL

The general vibe I'm getting from this game is "pleasant". The music and towns are all very nice and upbeat, there are nice bits of banter between the characters and so on. There isn't anything that really stands out though and that's a shame, but it's still a good time. Exploration feels a bit linear/limited, and I think its probably because its not a large budget game. Having to use the dpad for the menus was mad janky though. What's up with that? Still playing though and enjoying it but it's not left a lasting impression on me yet. Then again it took a long time for Ys8 to come good so I'm going to keep on with it. I think part of the issue is there are so many games out there that set the bar high like Zelda and Xenoblade. One thing I have to say is the aesthetic is beautiful. Even the menus and dialog boxes look like effort went into them and the presentation seems really polished. The textures are a little low res but I think the look holds up well to say how old the game is.

If I had to rate these five major RPGs currently for Switch according to how much I enjoy them, this is how I would rate them: 1. Octopath Traveler 2. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 3. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 4. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana 5. Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance 6. Shining Resonance Refrain Eventually I'll have a top 10 once Valkyria Chronicles 4, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Shin Megami Tensei V, Tales of Vesperia, Pokemon Switch, and Dragon Quest XI comes out.

I bought Shining Resonance on Switch. Got it primarily for one reason. Just utterly utterly adore the (female) character designs. Call me shallow if you will, but I find 'em mostly stunning, and the voice acting is quite decent too. I'm just awaiting some actual animated cutscenes to watch them flaunt in a bit. The static dialogue scene are neat, but I need a tad more. I've met Excella and her Dragon. Yes, it's def no joke on the difficulty spikes. AI could certainly be better too as allies drop in one hit more or less

I don't know, man! I tried the demo and, at least for me, it seemed like the characters and gameplay were a little stiff. The graphics seem OK, and it kind of reminded me to Eternal Sonata, for better and for worse: great art style, but an outdated gameplay. Somehow, I feel Ys VIII is a better game. And well, Octopath is a blast.

I played the demo and I liked the battle system and the gameplay, but the story was standard anime stuff. I like anime but it was a little much.

Playing this right now. I really like it.

Muh thoughts: Better than mediocre, and surprisingly good music in a technical sense (I'm still not enjoying it, but credit where credit is due - it beats the absolute tar out of Shining Tears, that's for sure!), pretty menus/GUI, and the story is... actually fairly intricate. I was not expecting that! Also, the fighting system is what I wished the Tales series would've been like, but that's just me. Still, the execution could've been better - either the voice work, localization, or original writing were not up to snuff. Shining Force II may be a simpler game all around, but it does what it does with near perfection. (Minus the *ahem* in-battle open chests bug/locked feature...)
