Mahmood Ahmad Shah is a senior bureaucrat in the J & K Administration, while also an established mountaineer and trekker with a passion for exploring the outdoors. He has been elected twice as the President of Jammu and Kashmir Mountaineering and Hiking club (established in 1934), one of the premier and oldest clubs of the Valley. He is a member of the IMF and the UIAAA. Currently Shah is working on a book on 100 High altitude Lakes of Kashmir and a Trekking Guide book on Jammu and Kashmir.

I am very lucky to have spent a lot of time in the Valley while commanding JIM from 1997 to 2004 as well as a kid when my Grandfather and father, being Army offrs, were posted there. A couple of yrs back, while planning a Rafting Expdn for the IAF, and later when the J&K had organised a Tourism Meet with the IMF, had the privilege of interacting with Mr Shah. Found this unassuming and poised man, to be the storehouse of Trekking routes in the Kashmir valley. He had earlier authored a beautiful booklet on the Treks in Kashmir and the complimentary copy which I received by me from the author, was presented to the IMF lib(but on two occasions found it, lying abandoned and not BOC in the library stock). The photographs of lakes taken by Mr Shah are mesmerising and I request a printout of the video kept at the IMF library. The IMF, as earlier suggested by me, should launch some expdns in the Kashmir Himalayas , particularly in the untapped Kishtwar Himalayas. Looking fwd to the future books by the author. May incl email id of the presenters in the webinars, for further interaction than filling Ltd space of public comments.
