I’ve driven lorries since I was a baby faced 21 year old I’m now 29 and I’ve seen some shit, I’ve done silly hours now since I started I’m not scared of anything anymore it is what it is this industry people say you just sit on your arse all day but the fact of the matter is this job isn’t for the faint hearted, but you make it work and once you’ve got over your working time and tacho stuff, rest hours/days and all that shit it’s easy! But if you’re not a quick learner you will struggle! You can’t be soft just get on with it! Deady makes some valid points in most of his videos he’s straight to the point and open sometimes social media is a great tool but other times it makes people soft and anxious about anything! Best thing to do is get out there and try it, don’t whinge and get on with it!

The one point I really don't get is, when people complain about wait times at RDC's, you actually get paid for doing nothing, no other job offers that. It's how we do 15 hour shifts and pull in the big wages. I'll sit all day if they want.
@EduardSLVRU
@EduardSLVRU 2 года назад
If you spend too much time in RDCs, then by the time you out. There’s not enough time left to drive to the next destination because you run out of working hours and you have to stay overnight. This is a waste of time and another reason why people don’t want to do this job. RDCs on UK is a complete joke. Sitting for 7-9 hours to get tipped. It’s not only a waste of time, it’s a water of life time. RDCs should be in and out. Not sitting for a whole day. The whole point of pre booked time is to get in time and get tipped in time. With offloading mentality in RDCs it’s never gonna work. What do you prefer to drive for 9 hours or sit in the truck on the ramp for 9 hours?

I used to work at asda redhouse rdc in Doncaster, when i was on goods in I'd try and unload as many as quick as i could, but then the powers that be would tell me off for doing it,. We'd check every pallet with a computer, it was then uploaded to the goods in office, who then confirmed it against their orders, it would then be cleared for the paper work to be signed, the whole process took 20mins, except the signing of the paperwork, they held that back once the main office had cross checked everything, that took the longest

It's ironic how Deady said all this, then left just a year or two later because of the exact conditions he is slating this fella for. The conditions are utter shit in our industry. I got so fed up with the Class 1 work and the tramping I took a pay cut and drive class 2 tippers for tarmac now, home bye 5-6 every evening and I acctually get a weekend off unless I want to do overtime. I’m in that group. I invited you to it. I find with that group, if you hate the job, hate the industry and have nothing better to do than moan about it, you’ll be fine. They’ll all love you. As soon as you mention anything about the industry that puts it in a positive light, they hate you and they’ll all group up and come for you. You my friend, are someone who those “dinosaurs” and “professionals” should look up to. You talk to people with respect, you show what the job really entails on your channel. These drivers will go to work with an attitude. They hate their job and let everyone know about it. They’ll show up to a drop or collection, as miserable as sin and moan to whoever will listen. You’re honest, you’re positive and you’re a genuine guy. Kind, respectful but honest and don’t take any shit. I was in the job an extremely short amount of time and left and went back to my old job because of drivers like that who just bring negativity, hate and shit to the job. It puts you down. If only every driver had the same enthusiasm and personality you have. The industry would be a much better place. As you’ve said many a time, If you hate the job that much, leave. There’s no point doing a job you hate just for money. Money isn’t everything. Money CAN buy happiness in a sense that it alleviates some stress or problems. But if money is your only source of happiness, don’t expect it to last long. Keep at it Gareth. You’re a brilliant driver and an even better person!

Deady, spot on my son. Snowflakes can't cope without mammy wiping their arsche and telling them everything will be fine. Now me I drive a poxy 3.5 ton van. I've worked as a parking attendant, worked for a council doing Poll Tax and housing benefits. Worked in IT. I read the article and nearly wet meself laughing. I spend most of my time stuck in traffic in Edinburgh City Centre. Yes there's nowhere to park in a city centre. BUT if you have to, you either ask politely a parking attendant and explain "Where can I park up, need to take a 15/30/45 tacho break please" and sure as eggs is eggs they'll either say you're fine where you're at or ask how much time have you got to drive/work. If you have say 20 minutes before you absolutely must stop, they'll probably give you the name of a nearby street maybe 5 minutes away and tell you to go park there. I've NEVER been ticketed while on a break. Even when sat on a single or double yellow. Just by talking to them. Now many moons ago when working for a police force, on one training session they did the "Attitude Wheel" where MY attitude, influences YOUR attitude, which in turn influences MY attitude... So this is how things escalate. So by being an entitled brat would bring my mood down and you'd be getting told you can't stay where you're at if you do you're getting a ticket... Or be smiley happy and ask politely "Where can I stop gotta get a legal break in?" My attitude changes for the better (you've been polite so I adjust) and either politely tell you to Foxtrot Oscar to Zebedee Street (round the corner). Or I just say go for it nay bother, and I jog on. Stinky attitudes cause the other party to be offended. And you're almost right about the services and snack vans, except for up here you have a fair few services on the M74, plus Route 74. Heart of Scotland on the M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Stirling services which aren't on a motorway, Kinross and Perth (Broxden) services both just off motorways and Strathcathro on the A90, but there's a million and one laybys. And some have a cracking wee snack van at them. I haven't seen any of the latrines be anything other than mibbee in need of a wee adjustment to the seat. I do what you do. Make up my own nose bag, and if I stop where there's a wee snack van I'll get my travel mug out and get a brew off them. (Yup last of the big spenders me... Plus I don't make as much as you big rig drivers.) To be a professional driver means you need to be happy in your own company. If you can't stand yourself you ain't going to like being stuck in a small space with yourself for hours on end. I'm guessing that mummy's boy hates himself and the world around him because he hasn't been taught to love himself... (And no not like that Deady get your mind out of the freaking sewer boy.)

On the one hand, you're right that there are other jobs and vocations that are far harder, physically, and more demanding in general than being a HGV driver, and I feel the commenter was moaning a bit overmuch about things that are just part of the job, including long hours, shifting sleep patterns and being able to eat on the go. On the other hand, the fact that other industries are harder speaks more to how shit they are, and is no reason to not want to improve the industry you're in. For example, compared to driving on the continent the UK is behind in providing enough high quality, reasonably priced places for truckers to take a break or stay the night, and that is something that would be a benefit for all divers to have something done about. As for wages, relatively HGV drivers earn pretty decent, but the UK in general has a low wage level compared to several other comparable countries and that would do with sorting somehow. But that's another discussion entirely.

I don't think you even need to lower yourself to attack the guy as a person, just the stuff he says. He is obviously someone who never wanted to drive trucks and has somehow ended up doing it, so his point of view reflects that and he'll never be happy even if every change that he is going on about actually happened. It's obvious that you are the opposite and drive trucks because you genuinely love it and that's all you need to focus on. If you attack this guy personally then him and his ilk will use that as ammo against you. You are a very good force for making people want to drive HGVs and as long as you make vlogs about your experiences and view points they will never get traction against you. Rise above the dickheads, point out the things that they say that are bullshit, but never attack the person, just the argument and you will always come out on top. You are a genuine guy and that makes people love your vlogs, so don't get drawn in to this guy's garbage where he can use what you say about him against you (and unfortunately many people listen to these crybaby morons).

I've driven a bus for the last 27 years, and its slowly become the worst job i've ever done. That's mainly due to piss poor management and wages and conditions that have been left behind over the years. I'm seriously considering taking my class 1, only got around 10 years left before i could retire. Wish i had got into HGVs before i began my journey driving buses.

After 38 years driving lorries I can't help but think this kid has done tremendous damage telling lies about some aspects of our lives without any practical life experiences. You and other truck vloggers have encouraged lots of folks to consider driving as a career but this silly lad in his push to get his name in the spotlight can only be detrimental to helping the industry find new drivers, oh and I think everyone noticed his reply was more a personal attack. This life is not for everyone and the job is quite often what you make it. Do think I would still be doing this after 38 years unless I enjoyed it? And as a lorry driver I can not ever remember working for shit money, never mind nowadays, oh and how you are treated usually reflects how you treat others, yes you mentioned it too. He doesn’t have the knackers to tell them the crack. You’re right, when you’ve never grafted in your life you have nothing to compare it to.
