i have a dwarf female hamster, i am trying to tam her but she keept jumping out of my hands when i used a glove to hold her and she also gently bites me. i got advice from someone saying that my hands smell like food and that the hamster might think my finger is food. but then your saying that i shouldnt wash my hands, i dont know what to do because even when i try to feed her from my hands she gets curious and then hides. i think im going to fast with taming her but i just wanne hold her since i have been around 1-2 years late to tam her.
I grew up having hamsters and unknowingly doing it wrong. I had a couple that lived for 2-3 years and i loved them so much. Im now 27 with a 3 year old and want to do it again the right way, but alas my child would make that impossible right now 😅 These videos will have to do for now
Can I use the natural vitamin fortified calcium carbonate substrate? I got it at petco on the reptile section but haven't opened it wasn't too sure versus the very fine sand that is usually sold
Is there a video that shows hamsters living in each size tank so we can get their honest opinions? I've had hansters since I was a kid and never seen them unhappy. As long as they have food, toys, wheel, water, clean bedding 😅 It doesn't pace back and forth and does seem happy but I'm no hamster. How do other people know that their hamster is unhappy or happy? Can we see the difference, please?
Hi! This is a great question and I see a lot of people who bring this up. It's true that we can't really ask hamsters if they are happy or not, but it's something that with time, experience, and a LOT of honesty with ourselves, we can start to see subtle (and not so subtle) behavior changes with our hamsters. :) It's also very difficult for a person who perhaps hasn't had the opportunity to see hamster behavior in large or extremely large habitats to see differences or comparisons. I was similar to most hamster owners for years in thinking my hamsters were happy or fine in their small cages, but it was only after upgrading larger and larger that their true hamster behaviors REALLY started to blossom and show themselves more! It was such a neat thing to witness and now, looking back on my past hamsters, I can see little things that show me they had some level of stress or unhappiness, even if it wasn't drastic like pacing or bar chewing. Some hamsters are more laid back then others and may "seem" to handle stress more, or one hamster may do better in a smaller cage than others, but it still doesn't make it ideal for them. I will say my observations after having 20 hamsters has been that dwarfs (minus Roborovskiis) handle the smaller habitats a little better than Syrians. Female Syrians are the most demanding and needy in terms of space and enrichment, but it's always beneficial for any hamster to have large spaces. Now a lot of people will mention how their hamster hides and seems stressed in a large space, so this means they will need a lot of shelter, hiding spots, different levels, tunnels, and other items to allow the hamster to feel safe and not "out in the open" too much. Hamsters are prey animals and often won't come out if they feel vulnerable, so all of these things are important to keep in mind when building a very large habitat. I hope this info helps you and please don't feel badly if you aren't able to provide a huge, massive cage, but if you are able to try upgrading or at least add on additional space, you might notice some positive changes in your hamster. :) Have a great day!
I’ve been watching you since i was 16. I’m 24 now. I have a 29 gallon planted aquarium with a co2 4L tank. I also have a black Syrian hamster named Draco. I am glad to see your video come across my feed again. I’ve missed your uploads! You really inspired me though the years!
Aw thank you for your support and for sticking around so long! It means a lot! I can imagine how beautiful your 29 gallon tank must look. Do you have any of the aquarium plants that turn red? (Most of them seem to need co2.) Big hugs to you and Draco!
I love it when people and even myself get super excided about small, happy-making things and even the mastering of problems along the way. I'll be there for the shrimp video for sure.
Thank you! It's definitely not our dream aquascape, but it brings a lot of enjoyment for the budget and energy that we allotted to it. Plus the critters love it!
Oh thank you so much! ❤ Life certainly has it's challenges, but there are also blessings and beautiful things along the way too. 😊 Thank you for your support!
Part 2 video....is FINALLY done! 😁 I wanted to share the process of my husband and I setting up our new aquarium with you so I thought it would be fun to film and document the journey. It hasn't been smooth sailing and we've run into many issues along the way, but it's been fully worth the effort and learning experience. Hope to post another video again soon! Enjoy and thank you all for your continued love and support! 😊❤
Would a 50 gallon tank suffice for my active Robo boy the reason im asking is because I want him to be happy and be able to run to his hearts desire plus have a lot of space for more activities to keep him happy
Hi! This is a DIY cage made of melamine wood and plexiglass. :) There are a lot of great DIY hamster cage videos on YT that can hopefully give you some ideas if you want to build your own. Also look into Niteangel brand on Amazon!
Thank you so much! That means a lot. 😊 I am still believing for healing in other areas of my life too, as is my husband, but it has been a tremendous blessing to have more energy back and we believe the other healings will follow as well.
HH...Congrats to all your most recent blessings. Always followed your hamster stuff, and really admired your talent, craftsmanship but mostly your such obvious humility. Missed your absence, and now i know what caused your lapse. I'm so happy for your climb out of such darkness. I know dark struggling all too well myself, and caring best i can for my hamsters helps me stay a little happier. Your channel in large part has helper in that effort. Hopping (whoops....that's hoping ;-) to see new posts from you when you're ready.
Wow ya thats so funny she stayed up all night roaming and checking it all out, then fell asleep in here food bowl. So cool seeing the fish bowl sand bath thats exactly what i have for my dwarf hamsters sand bath...he just kicks so much up and out im debating on making like a ladder and tip it upwards. I have a 12inch nigel wheel and he wont use it...do you think its too big? I juat always here you cant have a wheel too big but idk. Wondering if maybe sticking some of the cork liner stuff down inside might help him feel more comfy using it. Idk. Last one was avg size and he used it sometimes but it was loud and horriable for us sleeping so we got this bigger silent one...theyre both plastic tho so idk shouldn't feel too much different for him to run on. He stays mostly down in his borrows tho, about 2 or 3 days nights at a time...sometimes ill see him come up for his nightly veggie breakfast i always put out for him around 11pm.
I just bought a syrian hamster on the 11th and I knew he was big but I underestimated just how big. Syrians are my go-to breed but it's been a few years since I've had hamsters. I knew immediately when I got home and placed him in the tank that he was too big for a 20 gallon. He can't fit anything that I had for my past hamsters. Unfortunately I don't have the money or the space for a bigger tank. Even if I get the money the biggest size I could go is 40, maybe 55 gallons. It would have to fit on my stand or a desk. So after thinking on it I've decided to return him, hopefully tomorrow, and get a dwarf hamster. I actually want two but I might get just one. The rest of my Christmas moeny is for clothes. 😮💨 I really wanted to keep him but a 20 gallon would suit a dwarf better. At least until I could get a 40 gallon.
Baby Gerber puffs can make really great hamster treats, but just make sure you’re not using any with spaces or anything like that I recommend you try them
