It was always one of my favorite rides. I remembered begging my mom to let me have black and white tile floors and a strobe light in my room as a kid like one of the last rooms 😂
The room with the flashing lights was the best! On the other side of that room was another track. People that got on the ride after you would pass by you in that room. I remember throwing pennies at my brother and his friend passing by. LoL
The Gold Rusher started out on ground level but after a few yrs they raised it to the top. When it was on ground level it went up a small hill but once they raised it up, the hill was gone. The Gold Rusher had this spiral track that went down around this massive waterfall.
They vary in size too. But you better have a large place to place it because it might not fit in a house or garage. Also what if one person wins all the bids then they can assemble it all. Good luck to the winner or winners of the bidding war.
I take the opposite opinion that a chopped up mural is not going to sell for that much. Who wants one letter of a mural that you would have to explain to people what it is. I may be in the minority but I am glad the mural is being replaced. While it represented Kennywood history with all the characters, it seemed very amateurish. The Thunderbolt deserves something BOLD and professional.
I agree, it’s worth $2000… but who has that amount of money for just a little chunk of the mural? And also, it better be replaced with something nice. It’s the first thing you see, so it should make a good impression.
I seen this ride in person as a little kid. Unfortunately, I was too little to get on it but I desperately wanted to. My aunt got to ride it and she said it was fun
I’m sure they’re putting up a new 100th anniversary mural for the Pippen. The park had noted on Facebook they had more coming for that besides just the sign on the ride.
Never rode that or the volcano one, both seemed like a lowkey form of torture, gettin spun upside down while you’re spinning and splashed in the face never seemed fun lol
hey not trying to ruin your theory but what i have to say about the lift hill is possibly it wasn’t the track but it could have been the chains because you said the rest of the track wasn’t giving vibrations or it could’ve been the trains because theh have been the same since 2009 and the green train was oit for a while and wasn’t even inside the station just some info to add to your theory
the lift motor was replaced and it seems the problem was fixed, so I guess it was the motor… the ride has been back open since about a day after this video was released.
Kennywood as gone down hill over the past 5 years at least. From how you pay for things, to the hours of operation, to the rides not operational, to all the criminals walking around that place. Not to mention the jacked up prices for admission. I'd rather drive an extra hour and take my kids to Idlewild.
I have a prediction I came up with, and I'd LOVE your input. The Pirate is on its way out for an Area 412 expansion. With all the refurbishments, especially in the old Volcano alley, The Pirate stands out as lacking the love the other rides have had. The ship itself needs extensive replacement and paint. and just look at the control station. It takes up a significant footprint from the support footers as well as the knoll it rests on. Keeping with their current go to Zamperla, I think there are several possible replacements with lighting packages that would further make that area pop as as well as add much needed curb appeal and eye candy to cars passing on Kennywood Blvd. Super Air Race - as there is nothing like that nearby as far as I know. Endeavor - I feel like this was a red herring for Volcano's replacement, and still a ride I think will make an appearance some time in the next few years at the park Nebulaz - Hershey does have one, but I think Kennywood is far enough away and watching them work is mesmerizing and would be eye candy for passers by viewing the new ride of the year. Over all I think something on the scale of Steel Curtain or maybe an actual expansion to the grounds itself may be on the horizon and they are getting the park in top form for future crowds and the associated spotlight with maybe another low year of park aesthetic enhancements and guest experience being the focus. Also an overhaul of Kiddieland and Thomas Town, hopefully merging them into one complete area which could put it on the map for children's areas in the larger market.
Agreed! Just rode it yesterday and didn’t get wet at all! I’m not exaggerating, I literally waited 45 minutes in the heat just to end up not getting wet. It’s a disappointment.
