Hey everyone! My name is Ethan and I am a Sports Medicine physician hoping to teach you all more about medicine, fitness, and nutrition. My background before medical school was 17 years of gymnastics (up to the NCAA division 1 level) and I have competed in an NPC men's physique show. I'm hoping to combine fitness and medicine to give you guys informative and entertaining content on this channel. Follow me on Instagram/ Snapchat ( @doctor_ej and @ej_fitness ) to stay up to date with my daily life!
Dude, I think you have the life I dream on having. I am starting to do a Bachelor of Science and then I am going into medicine, and I would love to go into sports medicine. I know there is a lot of work, but this is what I love. I will come back in 10 years to see this comment and see if I accomplish my goals, lol. Take care and keep posting videos!!!!
Thank you so much! It’s definitely been a long road, but I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out so far. Looking forward to you coming back to this post, let me know if you need anything along the way!
Hey! I'm in MCAT prep and currently in the end phase of my cut (not bodybuilding, just want to lean down). I won't have as much time to do so much cardio and gym these next few months, so do you have any tips for balancing diet, gym, and studying for MCAT prep?
Meal prep as much as you can on an off day of studying or end of day from studying. That way you have healthy food readily available instead of grabbing quick junk food. Use the gym as a study break. Probably can’t go as hard as you have been because you need to be locked in when you get back home to study, not dead tired 😂. Most people make the mistake of cutting the gym out completely and while this may be ok for the final week or 2 of studying, I wouldn’t do this for months on end. Best of luck!
Hey Ethan, I’m an okie hoping to get into a DO school next Spring. I am drawn to FM as you retain such a broad scope of expertise, but I also am fascinated by general surgery. Is it at all possible for someone to do a bit of both? Of course, my rotations later on will be a determining factor. Just looking for your thoughts. Thanks man
Hey! If you’re in a rural setting, definitely possible to do both. More surgical options available as a surgeon obviously. One option to consider that may scratch your procedure itch is FM with OB trained to do c-sections. Another option is FM sports med, but that’s smaller procedures compared to OB. If you don’t want to go rural, then I’d go for general surgery as this would give you the most options
@@doctor_ej Excellent advice! I will consider these going forward. That FM + OB may work well for me, especially as my wife is working towards becoming an OGNP. Thank you for weighing in, take care!
Started following as a premed and about to enter PGY-1, FM gang gang 🙌 Also considering a sports fellowship as well. Are you planning on having a split style practice once you are finished? Trying to figure out exactly what I’m looking for with it if I pursue that path. Would love that additional training in US guided procedures etc.
Appreciate the support over all these years! And yeah I will be doing essentially half sports half FM! Not entirely sure on the exact breakdown on days yet but it will be split. The procedures are awesome to add in to your regular clinic
@@doctor_ej Really resonate with your channel coming from collegiate athletics myself (wrestled division 1) and found my way to medical school around the time I found your channel before the pandemic. That practice set up sounds like goals right there! Were you able to negotiate with the practice you are joining or are you looking to open a practice?
@do.on2wheels38 that’s awesome man! It’s not easy going to college athlete route so great job there! Yeah there was some small negotiations. Opening a practice is definitely on the table, but working for a group to start out and see how it goes
@@doctor_ej Thats great man! Congrats on the fellowship year and upcoming attending job, that’s great you were able to negotiate like you did. A couple of my mentors either did exactly that, opened their own split practice similar to a DPC model, or were brought on into an ortho practice to handle the non-operative side. So many different paths to take which is awesome
How do you feel about TRT? I have labs done a few years ago which were pretty low, 200s or so total. Now I'm an orthopedic surgery resident sleeping less, eating a little bit worse, and struggling with fatigue, motivation etc.
There’s absolutely a time and place for it. I would say try everything you can do to naturally increase it, especially if you’re younger, before jumping to replacement. If you’re consistently in the 200s, have done everything naturally to boost it, and otherwise healthy/ no risk factors, you most likely would meet criteria for replacement. But we are seeing a lot of people jump right to replacement without trying to fix their lifestyle and overall health first which I wouldn’t recommend. You know the potential side effects, and they definitely should be considered before starting!
@@doctor_ej I know, it’s just tough to modify things to make it better. Planning on getting retested soon to see how it’s looking. The #1 issue effecting it is probably sleep, but as you know that’s something that can’t be modified much during residency and being on call twice a week
@SteelerNation3000 yeah, just going to have to put your head down and grind unfortunately, but I would still discuss treatment options with your doc. Remember this is a temporary period in your life and will most likely get better depending on where you work after.
Great vid! I'm currently in University right now. What kind of schedule did you have while in University? Were you into fitness & content creation at that time as well? Thanks for the tips!
Thanks! In undergrad I was a division 1 gymnast. So basically premed schedule 12-15 units with summer classes every year and workouts twice a day lol. Didn’t do content creation until after I graduated and took my mcat. But basically started before I got into med school and have made videos since then!
I have been a follower since you were a student and the channel was called Ej fitness. You don't know how gratifying it is to know that everything in your life has gone for the better, you continue to take care of your health and your family continues to grow. Wish you all the best. Greetings from Colombia, Latin America 😎🙌
You really remind me of another RU-vidr who does options trading videos his name is Vince from options insider. You guys are both around the same age successful and have a work ethic grind that never seems to stop. I don't know if you trade the markets but I would really recommend watching his videos if you're interested in the markets.
I noticed you mentioned Family Medicine residency. Is that a requirement to enter into Sports Medicine fellowship? And how does that differ from Sports Medicine residency?
I remember watching your videos as a freshman in undergrad. I start medical school this August and it’s kind of surreal and nostalgic seeing this again. I wanna keep working out in med school and this makes me feel a lot better.
Happy to see upload from you again! Started watching when I was premed and you were a student. Now you’re finishing fellowship and I’m an EM PGY2! I also have two kids. Time flies for us both!
It's true, estrogen promotes good mood, muscle growth and other good things. The 2 cases you have for taking estrogen blocker are if you have breast cancer or if you are like a week out from a show
These tips could be for anything dawg. As long as your plan your day around the fact you’re gonna drink later you’re fine. Just don’t go above the defecit
@@doctor_ej it's also pigs meat is haram ,i know it's known for everyone, but if you look to what happens to the body if it consume it ,i think it doesn't like it at all
Your videos are both informative and inspirational! I would like to ask wether you hit the gym directly after you wake up without a meal or with any food intake.
