Hey Ron your videos are awesome and have helped me tremendously while saving me hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars over the last 4 years I've had my 6.4 powerstroke. A few days ago I changed the fuel filters like every other time I've done it and somehow got air in the line. Man I was completely stumped after cycling the key a pile of times and even going back and removing each filter and reinstalling it to carefully eliminate seal/leak problems. I watched this video and had hope. Well nobody around here had banjo bolts at ALL so I was screwed! But your video got me to thinking and I was able to fashion an air compressor fitting with clear tube and a bunch of paper towels (because the compressor fitting didn't have exact same threading so couldn't get a perfect seal) and I was able to bleed the line until all the air bubbles were out. And BAM got it started and running great ever since. I can't thank you enough for the informative videos you've produced. THANK YOU !!

Hi Ron and Serena, Thanks so much for your info! I changed the oil on my 2008 6.4 and since that went well also replaced the fuel filters - I has watched a video some time ago (from dieseltechron I believe) and yesterday pulled up it again and followed step by step - except I had forgotten about the procedure to bleed the air which was covered at the end of the video. I fired it up and it started then promptly died - then watched rest of the video where the 6 - 30 second cycles to bleed was strongly recommended. Then I started to look on how to bleed the air from the system and came across this one. It was after 1PM and I then found out all the dealerships in our area parts were closed. I found a bolt I could order from AZ but we needed to get back by Monday noon. - not a happy camper. I came across Serena's post and thought I might try a similar approach. I took the bolt on the truck out for comparison and headed out to HD/Lowes/AZ. Here is what I found: The bolt is 12MM 1.5 thread (had no match at HD - Lowes had some solid ones about 2.5"). Both HD/Lows had 1/8" pipe (about 2") in brass (for possible use with either Ron's or Serena's approach). Neither HD/Lowes had 1/8" pipe tap nor the 11/32" drill. AZ had a tap/die kit $25 which had 1/8" tap. Both HD/Lows had conversion to 1/4" and 1/4" to be able to put on plastic tube (I had tubing already). Since I could not get the bold from the dealer till Monday - I also picked up some teflon tape which I used to build up on the 1/8" pipe to fill up the hole where the bolt was. On dieseltechron's video he did point to one of the bolts when he was talking what would need to do if you failed to bleed. This is the one closest to the firewall of the two on the center drivers side of the vehicle. There were two washers and I cleaned the area around being as careful as I could to avoid getting anything into the hole. I did not locate a good video on exactly how to do the bleeding. I had my wife come out and while I pressed down on the 1/8" pipe had her turn on the key and I saw a few bubbles come up - not like the amount I had seen on some videos. After a few trys I removed the 1/8" pipe, put the washers back in and replaced the bolt. I thought I would have to wait for tomorrow to get a bolt to drill and check to see if there were other bolts one should be bleading from. However, since there were few bubbles coming - I thought I'd give it a chance and after about 10 seconds it started. Boy was I happy! If I were in a similar pinch i would use yellow teflon tape - it is thicker and designed to work with gas/oil. At some point I'll probably try to make one like Ron made rather than the pipe than teflon tape. Someone else mentioned that he drilled with a smaller bit first from the inside then drilled with the 11/32 from the outside - not sure if 11/32 would fit inside. Thanks again for the helpful info! johnh...

Engine parts laying around in the kitchen. Reminds me of my uncle. Be eating dinner with him. With a carburetor next to the potatoes 😂 RIP sir. Wish I had half your experience.

Banjo bolt #W302472, washers #W303659. I drilled with a smaller bit size that just fit in existing hole and then drilled 11/32 bit from top.

Ron great stuff .....I have a f 350 powerstroke diesel 6.0 King Ranch here in Costa Rica......and I guarentee nobody here knows a 10th of what you do about this motor........I need an emergency consult PLEASE.....I drove the truck through a mountain pass paved road to the city of San Jose it took about 4 hours no problems on the way their but on back about 2 hour into the trip with the fuel tank about 1/4 full a bus pulled out in front of me.......I slammed the brakes no skidding but a sudden stop and then got up and running again.....then within 30 seconds of the sudden stop the truck just died>>>>?? so I pulled over and it would not start again I thought maybe with the tank sloshing some air got in the fuel system.........so I turned the key to prime the pump waited a bit before cranking and then cranked and it started....then died .....one more time same procedure and it ran ......I cruised in the straight stretches no problem for another hour ...but within 15 minutes of going through the steep mountain pass it lost power again but did not die......so I pulled over, turned it off waited then after 1 min took off.... it still had low power and so I pulled off again because it just wouldnt go when pushing the pedal......finally I took off again in 3rd and took my time and made it home......in the straight stretches its acting semi normal......but has a hesitation in the motor and drives normal in drive and 3rd........its home and resting now .......whats your best guess my friend ..........please give this a look I am 6 thousand miles from any real mechanic that understands ford f 350 powerstroke

i have a 2011 ford f250 6.7l and I idle everyday for about two hours in the mornings nonstop and you said on the 6.4 that one can burn a hole in some of the pistons because of the regeneration cycle. Can this happen to my 6.7? I notice whenever I'm idling my exhaust gets really hot and the exhaust coming out comes close to burning the hair off my arm and my fuel does smell like diesel.Could I be doing damage to my pistons?

Simply buy a banjo bolt for your truck...drill it, tap it, hose it...done. I just built one in my basement for $12.75...

Find a Maxx Force engine and you will see it has a factory brass purge valve in the fuel cap. Ford kindly eliminated this in their redesigns to make your diesel run faster, longer,better...not! Lol.
