Cannon vs. Freezer with Distance Shooting

Today we're going to be shooting an old freezer to see what kind of damage will happen to the freezer with a few different types of projectiles to see how they will fly and what kind of damage they will do! We've got bouncy balls, marbles, 3d printed diablo pellets, and the more traditional grape shot and cannonballs. For an extra level of interest and fun we're going to be adding in some distance shooting of 50 yards instead of our usually 25 yards to see how good our aim is. How far will the grape shot spread at that distance? How will the projectiles fly? Let's find out!
If you have any ideas about things you'd like to see us shoot with the cannon or shoot out of the cannon leave them in a comment below and we will try to get those out for you guys!

What was your favorite projectile? Did anything surprise you? What do you want to see us shoot next?

All of them ! It was nice to have this big wide target to see where the projectiles are impacting. Otherwise observing the results can be quite tricky given how different can the ballistics of two apparently similar projectiles be.

Jonathan, I recently found your channel. I own three cannons. 1 inch bore, 2 inch bore and 2 1/4 bore. Have only fired blanks, no place to live fire yet. I have seen many many cannon shots on YT over the years, but I really prefer your style and presentation. It is exactly the way I would do a black powder cannon shot channel if I could! I also like that you "patched" some of the balls to get a nice tight seal! Note: The one time I did get to live fire my 2 1/4 inch cannon, we only had scale wooden cannon balls. Well......they did not really work. They zipped and zinged in all directions. At the same shoot, some guy made explosive shells out of tennis balls! He filled them with black powder, stuck in a green cannon fuse, and shot them out! Most were duds, but a few actually worked and exploded in mid air! Crazy fun. Just something maybe in the future for the channel.

Call around to some of your local outdoor shooting ranges and they might let you shoot there! I’ve been looking into the explosive cannonballs for a bit but I’m a little worried about the safely and legality although I think it’s totally legal as long as I don’t do the lighting, the cannon has to light the fuse, from what I can seem to find. I appreciate the kind words and thanks for tuning in!

@@TheCannoneer How it was done is the the tennis ball is pushed down the barrel fuse first touching the black powder, so when the charge goes off it lights the fuse at the same time. Very simple.

I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near the business end when they were using it for real!

Your cannon is, in a way, a scaled up 12gauge "mass accelerator". Given that you like to experiment with projectiles maybe you can have a look at shotgun slugs designs and see how they perform out of your cannon. Taofledermaus has been exploring viewers submitted ideas and prototypes for years now but you have the material required to make it bigger !

I’ve seen a few of his videos. I’m for sure going to look into getting that set up. I’ve been working on a sand casting version of the 3D printing that might be usable to get metal versions of basically anything. Thanks for the suggestion!

@@TheCannoneer Have you heard of styrene foam casting ? I don't know if I translated it right since my mother tongue is French but you basically 3D print/ carve a model of your "slug" in very light plastic/ foam and put it in loose sand. The liquid metal vaporises the plastic and takes its shape so you can basically have metal versions of what you make out of plastic. Would be interesting for you if that works with lead/zinc/aluminium or any metal you can melt !
@TheCannoneer
@TheCannoneer 5 месяцев назад
@@victormartin2774 I have not but I will absolutely have to look that up! The sand casting works well enough but it's not super precise for the fine edges and maybe that will work a bit better. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks again! We’re in middle TN about 30 mins southwest of Nashville, although we have a few ranges we’re hoping to try out in the future around the area soon.

Oh they are coming! We have two ranges we shoot at and the place with the longer range runs livestock on the pasture during the winter. Once the spring hits we will shoot some real distance.
