Haha, if I didn't have a conscience I'd be recommending GM SUV's to every one of my customers, but...I do like most of their platforms, but for some reason their SUV's are troublesome.

I had one of these a while back,couldn’t get a leak on pressure test so I assumed the thing overheated from a thermostat,went to vacuum fill it and it sucked air in like crazy from the water pump seal,lesson learned.

@@JimmyMakingitwork Works for me. A water pump was the first big job I ever did on my own car because I was a penniless student. Bought a socket set and a rebuilt pump on an early Opel, when engines had no chips and there was room in the engine bay. I admire your tenacity and resilience and ingenuity when it comes to fishing around in tight spaces and getting the job done. All my best

Multiple repairs on my 2016 Chevy Trax. The PCV went bad, and it's built into the valve cover. When the PCV went out there is a diaphragm in the intake manifold which pulled out. New intake manifold, new brakes and tires (Normal maintenance), HVAC hot and cold damper cable broke, several of the vacuum lines fell apart when removing the Intake manifold. Replaced the coil pack not long ago. Now I think my water pump is bad. It seems to be pumping intermittently. I replaced the thermostat and the temperature control unit. It worked for a few days and now its overheating again. The oil change light keeps coming on when the high temp light comes on. I changed the oil a few days ago so I know it's good.

Yes, they can be needy some times and repairs like you listed are common.

Yeah, sadly it seems like every brands entry level SUV has issues. If you do, try and go up to the mid level if you can.

Heri, I bought the ThinkDiag scan tool shown online and it includes an APP to do what is called bidirectional testing. The scan tool kit was $119. It also reads and clears codes, shows data to help with diagnosis as well. Thanks for watching.

I have a 2015 chevy trax LT with 80,000 miles. Just replaced coil pack. Its also slowing dripping antifreeze i think its coming from around thermostat. Not sure. We just got the t-pin for the hose. My radio touch screen stopped working also. Im at my wits end with this suv.

There is a coolant or thermostat housing on the cylinder head on those that leaks. Seeing a lot of touch screens lately on all sorts of vehicles. Many lose lots of functions when it happens.

Sounds like the engine pings. Malibu does too. Is this sound from these engines bad?

The direct injection engines make a lot more noise under the hood. The pumps work hard to bump the pressure way up.

I have a 2020 no leaks replaced thermostat . But only when I go over 80 mph it overheats how often can a cts give a hot reading ?

That sounds like some kind of airflow restriction, or a missing air guide or duct? Overheating is hard on any engine and there is no formula for how often it will get by. There are usually protection modes in most modern vehicles that limit speed and turn off cylinders trying to keep temps down. I would definitely stay under overheating temp until it is repaired. 2020 should have a warranty?

How can you tell or know thats its overheating?..i have 2014 it doesnt have a temperature guage..my radiator fan is kicking..im worried it might overheat and dont why the cooling fan is not..i jump it with wires and its working..i change the temp sensir on the rad and still the cooling fan not working even i switch everything..what could be wrong bec i dont know if my engine is overheating bec no temp gauge in the dash..any suggestion?

So My AC knob only works on Max. & yesterday my 2018 Chevy Trax sensor said engine overheating idle engine. ??? But I cut off a min later 🤔. Something trax doesn’t seem like it wants to accelerate.

Potential blower or fan issue. As well as other problems. I’d recommend a good local shop that stands behind their work.

You posted this a year ago so that means they had 100.8k miles in 4 years! I have the same exact car, 2018 trax and i only have 79k miles on it in 2023 and i drive a fair amount. Lol they must drive it for working purposes or something because 27k miles per year is insane!

These are usually good about air in the cooling system and it rises out fairly well. It's important to let it warm up watching the temp gauge, listen for the fan to turn on and then off again. If there is air it will not turn off and the gauge will continue to rise, then the fan will go to high speed. At that point turn it off, let it cool a bit and recheck the level, it should be good after topping it off again. Usually it doesn't happen though and is good to go.

You have way more patience than I have. I wouldn't have a tool around me right about now they Would all be in the yard lol. I hate Chevy's My wife Chevy's tracks has Has been a lemon a piece of junk ever since we bought it brand new. I have a feeling I've got to do the same thing you're doing to this piece of junk.

Yeah, the Trax is basically a DaeWoo. I like GM actually, usually easier to work on and they all need work eventually. Hope you get it sorted out!

We had a brand new Chevy Traverse the timing chains were going out after 60000 miles So we Trade it for the tracks and no better luck 😆 I even let the dealer change the oil In both cars.

I have most of my family driving Toyota's if that matters. They aren't perfect, no brand is, but seem to have less problems than others. As well as Honda. I used to buy only GM's until they started making so many outside US Borders.
