@@NashwaukSteve Oh absolutely Sir. Cherish for sure and always remember this quote. “Behind every good man is his wife rolling her eyes” God Bless you and yours also!
Thanks for this video! I bought a new fridge just like this with the same issue. I took the time to diagnose the issue as the same thing you had with the water line freezing, but since it was under warranty called the GE repair line to schedule service so I didn’t have to pay for it. Unbelievably, the repair guy didn’t believe me when I explained to him what was wrong, what pieve was needed, and why, insisting the ice maker machine itself was broken, despite it always making ice once only to freeze. I ended buying the line myself and installing it and its all fixed! And the GE repair company keeps calling me trying to schedule a appointment to replace my ice maker as they mailed me a new one lol. What a useless warranty.
Thx Steve you are so patient! We have the same model fridge, a couple years newer with exact same problem! Turned water off in house & ice maker stopped working. Will attempt a quick fix if not we will have GE Repair come out under our warranty. We’ll know exactly what to tell them thx to you 😂😂. Kids in the background of your video & the cat were a very cute addition.
Great video. It may help me with my problem. I liked the way you handled the curious cat. That was funny. With all the distractions in the background, you still made a great video. I applaud your work. You killed my excuses.
@Tad Roediger- thanks for watching! I found the part on eBay from seller unlimited_appliance_parts. The GE part is WR02X13771. Sellers part number is 372731971304. Good luck to you!
Thanks Steve. Appreciate the video. I have the GE Cafe French door with ice maker exactly like yours. I see no on/off switch and you never commented on one so I assume it does not have one. What I learned from your video is that I don’t want to tackle this! I’m less handy than you are… I’m calling an appliance repairman. Thanks!
Hi Hugh Cecil! I didn’t mention it, but there is an on/off button on the inside of the left door jamb. It’s one of a few controls tucked in there. Good luck getting yours fixed! Appliance problems are no fun at all!
Excellent video and I was beginning to take all the screws out to get started when I read this comment. Unbelievable, but the ON/OFF switch was the answer! So thank you both Hugh and Steve. I didn’t realize I had an on off switch. 😅
Another thing you should know about mine, when we turn the icemaker back on for the bottom icemaker it doesn’t make ice. It just makes a sheet of ice on the ice cube drawer . So I’m definitely getting water. And it’s possibly the fill valve.
Wow, what a persistency you carry my friend. That is great investigative work you have shared. We have same problem with GE Adora no ice making at all. I am going to try to use your research findings. Thanks for sharing.
Hi @Tesfaye Leta- thanks for watching and commenting! Call it being frugal or being cheap, it does make me dig into repairs more than I probably should. At least this one was a win!
There are two valves because some fridges have in door water and ice as well as freezer ice. So your electro valve you were referring to, had second valve for water and Ice in door. I have the opposite set up. Water and ice in door, and I'm going to be adding a freezer ice maker, and will be adding the valve like you have. Thanks for the thorough video
Thanks, Steve, for sharing your insights. After changing the water filter and hair drying the fill tube, still no water flowing. Was about to call service and then I read one of your other responses about where the shut off switch was located. THE ICE MAKER WAS SHUT Off when I checked the door control. Not sure how it got shut off but that was the problem. Cheers!
Thanks for solving my issue by minute 1 mark. We went out of town and shut the water off to the house. I forgot that before we did that I shut off the 2 ice makers. Oops, but great video
Excellent video. Thanks for making this. Getting ready to start trouble shooting my ice maker. Like you my issue started after turning off the water when going on vacation without turning off the ice maker. Not actually sure if turning off the ice maker before turning off the water is recommended but that's when my issues started. The water is getting to the ice maker bc water went into the ice tray and bottom of the freezer and frooze. Hopefully it's just ice blocking the water inlet.
I'm doing a "tear down" next week. I have the identical fridge but my ice maker "dribbles" the water out and it pools up and freezes in the cube basket and freezer without making any ice. Your video points me in the right direction, thank you.
@@kathleenbarron7654 I ended up replacing the unit entirely. Found new replacement on eBay for around $125 and took maybe an hour to replace. Problem fixed.
Luckily I stumbled across the video and read the comments. I had the fill tub fill up and freeze before so it stopped working. Assumed that this was the problem this time...nope. now I'm pulling my hair out (whats left of it) then I saw someone say that they went away and turned off the ice maker(s)...checked that. What a stupid I am. THAT was the problem. Guess the cleaning people turned it off inadvertently....
Okay , this is a very good video and I'm looking forward to testing my dead ice maker . A few thoughts : what size tool (? nut driver ?) is necessary to remove the back panel ? my nut driver set goes down to 5MM and that's too big . Next ; WHAT IS THE PART NUMBER FOR THE HEATER ? . I'm looking at the factory parts page and don't see it listed . TIA, -Nate
When you took off the black line to replace the heat tape section, did the new line run all the way from the ice maker to the rear connection? Or did it connect near the grommet? Please let me know. Great video.
Thanks and you were right. My line/grommet was lower on the back than yours but the line I bought worked. My connection at the valve was a bit different as well. For those who have my set up, there was a "c" type snap ring that simply pulled off with a needle nose pliers, and then line came off using open end wrench to push the connector down (toward the valve) and the water line twisted off nicely. Need to remove ice maker to get to install new line with heat tape. A bit tricky to feed the new line with heat tape and electric connection back in but it worked. Now ice and more ice. Thanks for the original video it saved me from a costly service call.
Hello! Not sure what you mean exactly, but it should be filling automatically from the water supply when it is “on”. Either it’s not getting water to the cube tray or something is causing the frozen cubes to stay in the tray. It’s also possible that the cutout lever is tripped, causing if you stop cube production. Good luck with the troubleshooting!
Same refrigerator as you and shut water off in house but not ice cube maker during 2 week holiday. Now it pools water half time and makes ice cubes other half till tray full. I have tried resetting ice cube maker a couple of times. Not sure if there is a fix for this?
I bought a house with a GE fridge. They never hooked up the ice maker. I high it up and it didn't work. Then a few days later it slowly started making ice. Then a free months went and it stopped working. It hasn't worked since. I have no idea. I'm never buying GE again.
Hi @Harry Nguyen- if you’re still interested, it’s part WR02X13771. I found it on eBay from unlimited_appliance_parts. Seller part number 372731971304. Good luck and God bless!
Just providing an update for everyone, looks like GE stopped making WR02X13771 (this comment 2/10/2024), not easy to find but I believe replaced it with WR02X20261. Good luck, Appliance Parts Pro said it fits my model fridge GFE28HMHEES.
My coil is reading 177 ohms. I bought another one and it is also 177 ohms. I have 120 volts on the coil but no water will go though the valve. Also. When I hit the full limit on the ice maker the power does not turn off to the valve. I think the ice maker limit doesn't turn off properly. Since there is always voltage on the coil I think the coil burnt up.
Hello my friend- you are deep into the troubleshooting and seem to have a good handle on how this thing works. For me it’s been a long while since I was digging into mine, so I’m not much help. Good luck!
So wondering if you can help me out with this one. I installed the IM5D freezer ice maker and after 36hrs still no ice in the bucket. After watching your video i decided to remove icemaker and noticed that I had 1 batch of ice cubes made but they were in the ice maker unit. Since I had things apart I checked the fill tube water line back to the valve and all was clear. I put everything back together again and just made sure the 4/6 pin connections on ice maker were well seated in place. Any ideas?
OBTW : my model # GNE25JMKBFES GE 'frege with cold water and ice maker has a hard to see much less reach ice maker rocker typ on / off switch, you need to kneel on the kitchen floor and peer in to see it then hopefully remember where it was as you put your arm way back in.... I hope the entire lower drawer lifts and pulls out else I won't be able to test / fix it . -Nate
Hi TingTing Li- I’m not sure I clearly understand the problem you’re having. If you can give me some more information, I can try to help. Thanks for reaching out!
Hi Joe- does it overflow the freezing tray with water, or do you mean it just makes ice forever? If the freezing tray is overflowing, I’d start with the fill valve in the back of the freezer. It might be sticking open. If it’s making eternal ice, something is wrong with your cutout bar switch. A full ice bin should physically activate a switch to stop the ice-making cycle. Either the ice isn’t triggering the switch or the switch is bad. Good luck with the adventure!
