Wow! So I'm loving your channel and catching up on old videos when i find this. Im literally becoming distressed as i realize I've seen this entire movie, rescently, but can remember nothing that happens until prompted by this video. I think my subconscious managed to push it out of my head and is now upset with me for having relived the experience, hence the mild panic attack (as some sort of punishment, no doubt).

After this you should do a review of other Hellraisers. I'm not saying "do them all" but like, you can pick on the "Rick Bota abortions" (even though I think Hellworld-the 8th one is actually pretty well done despite it being obvious something is off in pinhead's first scene). However, the 4th film, had like 20 minutes cut out, disjointing the film, forcing pinhead to appear earlier before telling "the whole story" and ultimately making the ending actually "less bloody/violent" for SOME REASON, and it is actually is the "franchise end" as all others take place before it, despite the failure to really make it seem like Pinhead dies due to the studio edit mess. I still think it's like middling, 4th best probably, but could've easily been 3rd or even 2nd best if what was lost "fleshed" it out like it needed to be.

P.S. I would love to see a theatrical reboot that'd go off the book a little more for variation but I think they'd make kirstie a biracial lesbian and julia a bisexual harley quinn and her husband a soyboy done by blumhouse. If they got someone and people who actually wanted to make a real movie though, it could surpass the original and the 2nd too (which I think is heavily underrated, the labyrinth and julia returning was epic af).

Can't say I fully agree because they are kind of moving out of it, but remember the splatter resurgence in the mid-to-late 2000's? There is a difference between gross and scary, and you can do both, but gross seems to get more attention.

To be fair I think when it comes to video games you can look towards the promoted indie games and get a good fix (I know a RU-vidr who finds these things pretty well)

Visceral, bloody imagery have their place, and properly executed even buckets of blood can be downright terrrifying. I think that most filmmakers today use the body horror and gore as a crutch more than anything. That and FAR too many jump scares with too much buildup. A jump scare works best when the audience, let alone the character, least expects it. We are right there with the character, wide eyed, open mouthed, and shrieking as the blade drops or the jaws snap shut. I think today's movies are missing atmosphere, and writing that gives the antagonist a sense of mystery and intrigue, where we know only the basics about them, want to know more, but never quite get to as they knock off the cast one by one and always seem a step ahead, even when they lose.

@@tracexl exactly! Using gore to cover up lack of any creative storytelling. Certanly not against gore(grew up on hellraiser,Friday13th,etc.),but it should be used to accentuate,not just be a guro wankfest! (Personally i blame hostel and every saw movie after the 1st,which would have been better as a stand-alone movie)

This movie was also his vanity project which he tried to crowfunding before got Hellraiser gig. He only added Pinhead and Box.

Kill La Kill Yourself this one actually tried to be a hellraiser movie, and not some random script with cenobites added. The whole story of how this movie got made is crazy, and the director really wanted to add to the mythos of hell. Sometimes I get got the feeling there were some major studio interference since all the hellraiser movies are basically used to keep the copyright. The movie has potential, and the director had passion and actually wanted to try and bring his vision to life.

@@ZyroShadowPony Yeah...seriously look up the Kickstarter, its damn near shot for shot line for line. This is why the quality of Hellraiser has fallen so low compared to say Nightmare or Friday the 13th franchises , its because the last 4 movies they literally just bought ultra cheap indie horror film scripts (and in 2 cases the writer/director with it) so they could shove Pinhead into it and call it Hellraiser so they could keep the rights from going back to Barker. This is why they are so shitty, its not even movie by committee, its movie by accountants.

They have become no different than the Roger Corman Fantastic Four, movies that aren't made to be watched, just to cover a contract stipulation. Its sad really as Barker has said he'd be happy to make a GOOD Hellraiser but he cannot until the scumbags that control the IP run out of cash to make shitty movies to hang onto the IP but since they have gotten to the point they are doing nothing but buying cheapo indie horror flicks and stuffing Pinhead into them? The odds we will ever see another decent Hellraiser during Barker's lifetime is pretty much zilch. But just because you buy a script doesn't automatically make it bad, after all Die Hard 3 was originally a Lethal Weapon script which is why it feels more like a buddy cop movie than a Die Hard. But they actually TRIED and rewrote the script to make it work as a Die Hard. Like I said look up the Kickstarter and you will see the IP holders gave ZERO fucks about the movie as its beat for beat, shot for shot what that director had originally wrote, they just had him shove in a few scenes of Pinhead doing jack and shit so they could call it a Hellraiser and keep the IP. I'd call it a cash grab but that is actually an insult to cash grabs, its a contract fulfillment, it only exists to keep the Hellraiser IP until they can figure out some way to cash in on it.

K so we got a serial killer that kills based on the Ten Commandments, and he has this really cool name, called the Preceptor and-- Sir? Sir? (Sigh) What intern? Um, sorry, to bother you, but this movie kinda sounds like the movie Se7en. What? Se7en? It's got Kevin Spacey and Brad Pitt in it? You know, Kevin Spacey is killing people based on the Seven Deadly Sins and they call him John Doe because they don't know his name and then Brad Pitt arrests him but it turns out Kevin Spacey killed Brad's pregnant wife and put her head in a box so Brad Pitt shoots him which is the final death needed to complete Spacey's plan? .......shit. What remake rights do we have? Sir this Hellraiser one that's been on the back burner since 2006? Best we got, make it work somehow.

I dunno, I thought It Follows was a masterpiece.

Yeah you have to look, you're never going to find good horror coming from mainstream Hollywood. There have been tons of great horror movies recently; Get Out, Hereditary, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, It Follows, The Witch, The Devils Candy, A Dark Song, Raw etc etc.

Also how I viewed the opening monologue was that we don’t need to search for the ultimate pleasure, we have porn sites, and forums where you can find individuals that share in the same fucked up kinks. I’m pretty sure people would still look for the box if they feel their desires haven’t been fulfilled. Personally I would think the box would’ve made its rounds on the internet as some kind of legend since any footage of the box opening always gets destroyed or corrupted because of reasons.
