Why do people keep rehashing this idea that TLJ introduced the idea of not having to be a Skywalker to be a Jedi? That was never a stated thing in the movies. It just happened that Luke himself was the son of a Jedi, not that all Jedi were born to special family lines or anything. Did nobody see the prequels that had hundreds of Jedi who were not Skywalkers? In existing stories there are thousands of Jedi who were otherwise nobodies.

@@Bothandle70 Yeah you can fuck off with that "blame the fans". It was clear that JJ intended rey to have a lineage or bloodline that was previously strong in the force, or a background somehow related to it. His heavy handed references to it in ep 7 makes that so. Abrams was just "giving into the fans" when he did make her a palp. He was course correcting the ruination of his set ups. I dont believe he intended it to be a palpatine blood line when he started this (considering palps was never supposed to be in it pre-disney suits meddling of IX) but there was a significance considering she had an entire fucking LSD force trip from merely touching a lightsaber.
@i-deni-i5138

@@Nasmr1 what are those references you're talking about? All I see in TFA is that you can continue that movie literally anyhow you wanted because everything is a fucking cliffhanger. It's even more relevant after Rise of Skywalker. It's basically a list of where Disney went wrong and showed all the more just how terrible and nonsensical the hate really was. It was Disney deciding to try to cater to the blind haters by ignoring, retconning, or even outright mocking The Last Jedi that resulted in Rise of Skywalker being as awful as it is. Nearly every problem that Rise of Skywalker had can be traced back to doing everything possible to pretend TLJ never happened. Had they followed what TLJ set up with the third movie, the Sequel Trilogy could have rivaled the Original Trilogy in quality overall.

@@immortalfrieza Nah, both movies are absolutely awful, just for different reasons. The sequel trilogy effectively is a playground fight between two of the least talented directors Hollywood has ever seen, and the only people who enjoy it are the popcorn inhaling simpletons who just cheer whenever flashes and explosions happen. And if the hate for TLJ really was "terrible and nonsensical", the defenders of TLJ would have been able to rebut the actual arguments made against this movie, instead of just saying "It's good" without any supporting arguments and then saying the "haters" need therapy over and over again. They had the best possible setup they could have had delivered to them on a sliver platter by Rian Johnson and threw it away. I don't think the issue is with Rey being a nobody, not to me me anyway, and anyone having the Force.. that's "always" been the case in SW. But the issue is that she seems to be all powerful with no training at all and can do things which was established in previous movies and lore, required months or even years of training, not just finding out you are Force sensitive.. or else.. what is the defintion of a Jedi master or Jedi instructor? If one requires no instruction at all, other than "feel the Force" and that all people are the same, titles like "master" and "teacher" used in both the OT and PT, are meaningless. I mean, Luke could barely pull his saber out the snow in ESB, and that was even with a little training and experience in the Force, but as the ghost of Obiwan told him, he needed more training, and was evident in his lack of ability (and for every other Force user ever in SW history). It's not at all in the fact that "a nobody" can be senstive to the Force being the problem. This issue is that this is Star Wars, not a Superhero movie where Spiderman gets all his powers after being bit by a spider. The Force has always been a spiritual message about patience, work and discipline. And the Darkside being the "quick and easy path" to instant power, but leading one into evil. What we have in this movie.. spits on all that established lore and says "feel the Force, you're an instant master now!" no need for patience, caution or work here. Hell, Rey even fully gave into the Darkside by going in that cave for answers, and... there were no consequences for it! People also had issues with how Luke was handled, how he reacted to Ben in his sleep, and then give up on him when things went wrong, where as OT Luke by the end of ROTJ, who was younger and inexperienced, took a lot of constant prodding and manipulating over and over, in order to be goaded into a reaction, he was doing a good job of being passive the entire movie, only acting on violence as a last resort, even when Palpatine goaded him, and was even being purely defensive when Vader was fighting him and goading him along with the Emperor, for almost the entire duel. It took multiple attempts of constant goading along with his friends being in trouble, to bring him down to his breaking point where he gave into rage, but even then.. he gained control at the end... Even when things went wrong.. he tried to fix them.. never giving up on Vader, worst person in the galaxy besides Palpatine, but with Ben, he has dark thoughts, and Luke considers killing him out the blue from a single vision, he doesnt, but even then doesn't even try to turn Ben back to the light when he runs off to join Snoke.. he just.. randomly gives up and maroons himself on an island. Luke may have gone into a little depression, sure, that's human.. but afterward would brush himself off and try to fix the wrongs, because that's who he is. Luke of ANH was willing to go on after his Aunt and Uncle died! So a more older, wiser, calmer, experienced and learned Luke, by the logic of his progression and life.. should even more so be calmer and willing to carry on despite blocks along the road, not become a hermit. It was nothing to do with Luke "following the Jedi ways and striking down a Darksider", you added that on as an excuse for his actions in that scene, because it's explained in the movie that he thoughtlessly raised his blade at Ben, in a "sudden emotional reaction" which both "unjedi" like and anti-post ROTJ Luke. Luke should have confronted Snoke to save Ben like he did with the Emperor and Vader. That's what made him different to his teachers, he grew beyond (as Yoda would put it in TLJ) the hermit attitude and "no hope for the fallen" that Obiwan and Yoda took upon themselves,as you even said in this video, so even if it "was" for the reasons you stated about striking down Darksiders, why would he suddenly go back on all that after successfully redefining what a Jedi was? But what TLJ does.. is revert all that, and puts Luke back into his immature ANH/ESB personality, or even worse. (It's even quoted by Yoda in TLJ, that he's not changed from his angsty young adulthood in ESB, when ROTJ and even the Battlefront 2 story from EA, which is Disney canon, showed differently, that he HAD progressed into a wiser, calmer and more mature man).. so it all makes little sense in how the events of Ben becoming Kylo and Luke becoming a hermit happened in the first place, it doesnt line up with everything else. Luke was only truly Luke in this movie, at the "very end" when he sacrificed himself (and I have no issues with Luke being killed in these movies! Kill who you want, blow up the Falcon, just stay true to the characters and don't "force a story and change characters" for the 'sake' of it, but "fit the characters organically into a story" and lead the story's events in accordance to their character instead). People would love TLJ more.. if Luke was simply.. a little bit of hermit at first for the first movie (as set up in TFA, explained by Han, that he walked away from it all, but then afterward went looking for the Jedi temple, as if he was then looking for answers on what to do next) and then was willing to brush himself off, and teach Rey the Force, who "needed" to be taught and was not all powerful for no reason at all... Everything else would have been fine, I myself even really enjoyed TFA, but I felt TLJ didnt follow up on it's threads, or the rest of the continuity, just for the sake of subverting expectations. I don't hate TLJ because of having certain expectations of story, or because I was into dumb fan theories (which were eyerolling), because I'd love to love this movie. It genuinly dissapointed me, because I see too many flaws in the continuity to the franchise as a whole, development of the characters and sloppy writing (such as the Canto Bight arc and the space chase). I mean that. I don't hate on the actors for doing their job (and people who sent them hate mail and abuse them online are toxic people who are not welcome in this fanbase), I don't hate people with a different opinion, I don't hate the creator of this video, this is just how I see the movie. :)

I have similar issues with the movie. Fact is, there are a lot of us who gave the movie every chance, and were very reasonable in our assessment of it, and it still didn't work out for us. I count myself somewhere in the middle. TLJ was pretty good, but REALLY disappointing. The parts of the film most essential to its core - Luke's arc, Rey-Kylo relationship, Snoke's death scene, Rey being no one, etc = all of these things mostly worked for me. It's the filler, side-questy stuff that sucks the life out of the rest of the film. That, and the uneven tone. This movie approached humor more like Guardians of the Galaxy than Star Wars.

As far as defense videos for TLJ go, this is a very poor one in my opinion. Let's take a look at some examples. Maj0r ridicules the fans for making theories about Rey's parentage, yet pats himself on the back for guessing that her parents were nobodies. He states that Hux being a joke now is a good thing, but fails to explain how undermining your antagonists and making them even less threatening contributes to the movie (remember, a hero's worth is judged by the villain's capabilities). He claims that it made perfect sense for Luke to throw away his Lightsaber because of bad memories when one can make an equally good case that he should have an emotional attachment to it. He attempts to justify Luke contemplating killing Ben as him following the Jedi code, yet contradicts himself by admitting that Luke essentially rejected those very teachings in Episode VI, not to mention that such a notion was never part of the Jedi code to begin with. He tries to excuse the waste of time that was Canto Bight by stating that the purpose there was to inspire the slave kids, yet they seemed more inspired by Luke than Finn and Rose, not to mention that Canto Bight's themes about war profiteering are presented from a naive and childish point of view. He insists that the Force can be used by everyone now even though there's no evidence to back that claim up once again, not to mention that this is a terrible idea that undermines both the Force and the importance non-Force users have played in the saga. He tries to label the entire opposition to this movie as insane manbabies by presenting only a handful of reviewers that couldn't properly articulate what they didn't like about the movie instead of confronting the several reviewers who have offered well-articulated responses on what they thought was wrong with TLJ. And that's just part of what he gets wrong. As for what the major problems were with TLJ, here's my opinion. All the themes in TLJ either ended up having no impact, were abandoned in the end, had already been covered in previous films or were simply wrong to begin with. The status quo was forcefully reset to the same one at the start of Episode IV; a totalitarian regime controls the galaxy and a small band of freedom fighters oppose it. That makes the conclusion of the OT and the accomplishments of the heroes there meaningless. The new characters remain bland and uninteresting, with the possible exception of Kylo Ren, and even he is less complex and has more nebulous motives than before by the end of the movie. Most of the old characters have become irrelevant, while Luke's character shift is not explored in enough depth to make it believable. The movie subverted expectations by offering the easiest and most bland answer to all the questions offered by TFA; there was nothing there all along. It literally subverted for subversion's sake without offering anything of substance in return. If people can look past its flaws and find something to love and resonate with them, that's good, but pretending it's a near perfect masterpiece and that everyone who doesn't think so is an idiot is incredibly short-sighted and arrogant.

This is a mature review of his review. His review of reviews sounds more like something you'd expect from a young teenager. I very much agree with you on how they went about subverting expectations. Even so, I honestly believe TLJ could have been a masterpiece with the same story IF someone else directed it. Take out the ridiculous corny jokes throughout the film for one, the cantobite planet storyline could have been AMAZING with them going into a casino. Even the last battle scene against the giant AT-STs could have been amazing. Luke's story of becoming just a regular force user could have been a good story. But Rian just isnt right for Star Wars and fucked everything up

@@heathbar1011 The sad thing is that it could have worked if the circumstances surrounding Ben's fall had been reworked a bit. For instance, let's imagine this hypothetical scenario where Luke had a wife and kid. Snoke, under the guise of an old, knowledgeable Force user, could have joined Luke's academy, subtly corrupting Ben and the future Knights of Ren. However, Luke's tendency to see the good before the bad could have left him blind to this, resulting in the destruction of his academy by Ben, Snoke and the Knights of Ren and the deaths of his family. Luke could have had his connection to the Force damaged during the ensuing fight with Snoke, barely managing to escape with his life. After having lost everything due to putting his faith in the wrong person and feeling like he couldn't affect coming events at all, it would have made sense to me that even Luke would feel such despair that he would exile himself and wait for death. But instead, Luke somehow didn't think the wavering Ben deserved the same treatment that his mass murderer of a father did and considered striking him down. Even worse, he chose the easy path by abandoning both his power and his responsibilities after his failure, left Ben to the darkness, didn't care that Han and Leia would be in mortal danger once the First Order made its move and was willing to let the galaxy crash and burn all around him since no-one but him or someone trained by him could face Snoke, isolating himself in a remote island and waiting for death. And what does he do when he finally confronts Ben on Crait after refusing the call for almost three-quarters of the movie and teaching Rey absolutely nothing? He gives him a feeble apology, and then proceeds to mock him and humiliate him in front of his troops instead of attempting to appeal to him and insisting that he'd never give up on him. So in the end, Luke never truly learns from his failure. And as for restoring hope to the galaxy, I think that's also a bit of a stretch. The First Order destroyed the seat of the New Republic, eliminated the Resistance fleet and reduced them to only a dozen or so people that escaped only because the hero Luke Skywalker sacrificed his life to let them escape. The out-of-place jovial atmosphere in the Falcon and the slave kids reenacting the battle would have you think differently, but realistically, such an act changes nothing about how the First Order is the dominant power in the galaxy and that almost no-one is left to oppose them. So in the end, even though that moment under the twin suns is a beautiful scene, it doesn't feel earned.

The Last Jedi is utterly terrible. The plot is ridiculous, the dialog is largely physically painful to listen to, and the characters stir as much emotion in me as watching paint dry in a room I didn't paint. Did I mention the plot is ridiculous? Look, I don't expect anything Star Wars to be a philosophical masterpiece - but a little bit of sensical plot and character development beyond childish blurts of dialog would be nice. The new trilogy was a major disappointment to everyone I have ever discussed it with. As far as the prequels - we saw those in the theaters and laughed. The new trilogy made most everyone in the theater over 8 years old groan in pain. Edit: I forgot to include that I was at 2:10:29 in TLJ when I had to take a break from rewatching it because it's that bad...

Here’s the quickest way to to tell is someone understands Star Wars, is to ask yourself, “do they understand Jedi”? Jedi are not “Space Wizards”. The “Force” isn’t a “superpower” like Captain Marvel would has. The Jedi are the “Samurai” of the Star Wars universe(with a little extra Martial Arts style “mysticism”, like “Chi” & what you may expect to find in a Kung Fu film thrown in). If a Star Wars story is “good”, you should be able to transpose the story to a setting of Feudal Japan. Major Lee has NO understanding what a Jedi is. Replace what Major Lee says about Jedi with Samurai or Bushido,(the code the Samurai live by), and it’s very easy to see everything he’s getting wrong. Murdering someone in their sleep is NOT honorable, and is NOT part of the code of a Jedi or Samurai. The Luke Skywalker character presented in The Last Jedi was completely devoid of honor and everything that made him a Jedi, & he in no way redeemed himself in the end. He died dishonored. The Sequel trilogy destroys what a “Jedi” or “Samurai” actually are. If you remove a Samurai’s code, purpose, discipline, training & aesthetic, all you have left is just a person with a sword, not a Samurai. The same holds true for the Jedi, even with “force use”, sure, some are more naturally “gifted”, but that’s not supposed to mean much, without proper training & dedication, like martial arts. That’s the primary thing they get wrong with the Rey character.

You can’t just splice a bunch of very different Asian philosophies together and say that someone else doesn’t understand the Force. Samurai were zen Buddhists, and followed the philosophy of Confucianism…. chi is a Taoist belief. And in fact the last Jedi does fully understand the concept of chi, yin and yang, the push and pull of light and dark. Taoism believes everyone can channel chi if they reach a certain level of spiritual awareness. So no, a movie with Jedi exploring the Jedi does not have to exactly correlate with samurai because Jedi philosophy is not JUST based on the beliefs of the samurai. Please learn a little bit more about the religions you’re invoking before making really dumb comments like this.

@@GreenWormJello You don’t have to call my comment dumb, that feels unnecessary, besides, I pride myself on trying to only make informed comments. It’s funny you said “splice a bunch of Asian Philosophies together”, that’s essentially how Lucas created his concept of “The Force” & “The Jedi”(with some western philosophies thrown in). Also, Lucas has confirmed that Star Wars was very influenced by Kurosawa films, particularly “The Hidden Fortress”, which are called “Jidaigeki” which means“Period Drama”, specific to Japan and set in the world of the Samurai. My meandering point being, I didn’t come up with “what a Jedi is”, George Lucas did, & I’m sorry if you disagree, but the Samurai IS the closest archetype for the Jedi in cinema, you didn’t present an alternative archetype to be considered. Also, also, just so we’re clear, I am and was speaking about The Samurai in Cinema, which are almost assuredly different from the actual real life Samurai. If you describe a character as being a Western Type, Outlaw, Gunslinger, Loner, that doesn’t mean that character has to conform to what a real life Western Outlaw was, we’re discussing film, I’m sorry if I may have been unclear. Also, also, also, a Samurai & a Jedi won’t be EXACT or else they would both be called Samurai and would have a katana, not a Lightsaber. Anyone, blessed enough with the opportunity to “play” in someone else’s created world, with those characters that Lucas created, has an obligation to honor what he created. I’m not saying things can’t grow or change a bit, however, if it is so OFF, that the actor who had Lucas tell him what a Jedi IS for 3 films, is telling you “this isn’t what a Jedi would do” & that he “fundamentally disagrees with every choice you made for his character” that’s probably a sign, that while you may understand YOUR story, you DON’T understand the WORLD you are setting it in. And hey, it’s not just me, a RU-vid channel made a video about it! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RowESrJmFvM.html

@Heather Mason I do want to be clear, just so I’m not misunderstood, when I say the Jedi are The Samurai archetype, it’s like saying Deckard in Blade Runner is a “Film Noir Detective” archetype. Which is different than a “Columbo Detective” which is different from a “Sherlock Holmes” archetype. These are all “short hand” to describe the basic roles, behaviors and purpose characters serve in a story. It’s like referring to the protagonist’s nemesis as a “Moriarty”, which usually comes along when the protagonist is somewhat overpowered, so the writer creates their own “supervillain”, to raise the stakes by creating an antagonist that the reader can believe that the hero might lose to. A “Moriarty” doesn’t have to be male or even Irish, it’s about the role they occupy & how they interact in the story. The Jedi occupy the same role in the Star Wars universe as the Samurai in the Kurosawa universe. I’m a little shocked this would even be disputed? It would be like someone arguing that Deckard in Blade Runner, “isn’t a Film Noir Detective archetype”?

I agree on some level with the sentiment you are trying to convey, but Samurai have been greatly mischaracterized by Hollywood and the like. They were not very honorable in the way you are portraying, they killed a lot and pretty mercilessly and they are much closer in actions and mindset to a sith than a Jedi, they were incredibly aggressive and often used to quell rebellion in feudal japan. They were literally on paid retainer by feudal lords as protectors to the daimyo’s territories. Again I understand your sentiment, and I appreciate you trying to make informed comments, but your information is based on Hollywood movies and portrayals that fall very favorably in casting Samurai in a far more honorable and noble light than they actually carried and conducted themselves. And I understand that you mean these as archetypes, but when you sell off your franchise, you sell off all the IP of that franchise and the world is no longer yours. He invited the world in when he made these into films and not a DnD campaign with his buds. To be clear I don’t like the sequel trilogy, but I also don’t think his opinions on this world are the only ones that matter, especially when a huge portion of what was canon up until Disney bought Star Wars was written by fans of the series. Yes most of it was approved by Lucas, but just bc the world comes from his imagination doesn’t mean strictly his creative ideas are the ones that are the best in a given scenario. In fact his ideas were so convoluted in the beginning that if not for Marsha Lucas sifting through all the debris of hours of rambling film to cut it into something watchable, Star Wars would be a one off sci fi fever dream that was 4 1/2 hours long and the butt of jokes for decades to come.

I watched your video because I think this movie is mediocre, and I wanted the perspective of someone who loved it. I don't want to put words in your mouth, but I get the impression you liked the broad, sweeping themes and ideas, and appreciated that we were expecting one thing but got another. To each his own. But you also didn't portray the counter-arguments well and resorted to cultivating strawmen. For the most part, these were highly emotional people who weren't able to (or were edited so that they couldn't) articulate precisely why they were let down and frustrated. But they still were. And I get that. It's hard to articulate exactly what's wrong about it, and what falls flat. But that doesn't mean there isn't something wrong. That doesn't mean there aren't parts that fall flat. And about half of all people who watched it felt that feeling of disappointment and frustration. So, isn't it much more likely that the film actually does have some legitimate problems rather than half of all the people who watched it just "didn't get it" or "weren't ready for it"? Isn't it possible that, maybe, just maybe, that at least some of the "half of all people who watched it" aren't insane, or stupid, or ignorant? Isn't it possible that some of them did "get it", but still didn't like the movie? Isn't it possible that with the incredibly complexed nuances of the craft required, the writing, the shooting, the editing... that even if the movie resonated with you and you loved it, that you just happened to be on the side that it resonated with, and that might be coloring your perception of the reality of the situation? The one in which... half of all the people who watched it hated it? Is that really what an amazing movie does? I know that's what Rian Johnson thinks... but I disagree. I think that might be what a director tells themselves when they take a risk and it doesn't work, or when they need to protect their ego, or when they want to make a story that pushes a worldview. I think amazing movies are risks that do work. I think they don't require one's ego to need protection. And I think ironically, even though they don't intend to push a worldview, they capture something about humanity so perfectly that we could spend years and years watching and rewatching them, and getting some different meaning out of them every time. What happened with this movie... is not that.

i think for those who can't articulate what's 'wrong' with the film only illustrates how reality didn't match up with their personal expectations, and that can easily be confused (i guess) for perceiving the movie as not working with internal logic or thematically, or otherwise, and if that miscommunication or disconnect is present, i only makes sense those people would dislike or even hate the film, but it's not the films fault, it's entirely a human emotional reaction that's literally irrational, because any objective viewer can see that while, yes, not perfect, the construction of the film is superb in it's own right..
@ShaneChaffin
@ShaneChaffin 6 лет назад
paradigmdashed I disagree. Many of the characters act in ways that seem in apparent contradiction to their past characterization, and many new characters act in similarly contradictory ways. (The “saving what we love” quip by Rose as a giant laser explosion occurs that signals the death of all the good guys, for example.) People can’t argue what’s wrong because they aren’t storytellers and writers themselves. They don’t understand that when you plot out a story before you write it, your characters end up doing shit like this in service of the plot sometimes. So they express their disappointment badly. But at the end of the day, when you analyze the plot... it’s a great concept. The broad sweeping themes and reveals and subversion of preconceived expectations... all great parts. It’s the advantage of plotting it out beforehand. However, none of that really matters in the context of watching it. It only matters in the context of analysis. But the film isn’t a summary of its plot, it’s a 2 and a half hour sequence. That context is lost in analysis, even in a lengthy one like this video. I don’t blame people for not understanding how to express their distaste, really, but the fact that they feel that distaste at all proves that there is nothing objectively great about this movie’s construction. It isn’t terrible, but it isn’t the cultural powerhouse it once was, either. It can’t be if half of all people hated it.

I feel like the biggest issue is that people think the concept of the force being universal is something new. The Original Trilogy is full of teachings from Obi Wan and Yoda about how the Force inhabits all living things. You see the perspectives of Luke, Leia, and Han with how they have differing views of the Force and how their openness affects how well they use it. It wasn't until the prequels that the lore got undone and the garbage concept of midichlorians got introduced. TLJ doesn't introduce a new concept, but rather it reinforces what the prequels sought to undo.

I find this video hard to take at face value. The movie has plenty of problems without needing to reach for the “butthurt manbabies who didn’t have their fantheory headcanons realized” card and pretending the rabid fanboy camp was the only camp criticizing the movie, and by implication said criticism was only rabid faboying, makes it look like you were more interested in attacking a straw man than addressing said criticism. I didn’t care if Rey was the child of someone famous or not, I just wanted it to be “not nothing”. Sure, “nothing” wasn’t something we expected, but that’s because we didn’t think the writers would build up her parents to be such a major factor in her character and then throw it in the garbage. She doesn’t have to be Vader’s cousin’s daughter’s uncle’s former roommate in order to have her heritage contribute to the story in an engaging way. Smoke, too, turned out to be “nothing”. I find it funny that you compare Luke’s decision not to kill Kylo to his choice regarding Vader because there’s another piece of his history I think you’re forgetting. Luke, more than anyone, should know the power of redemption - so why is he contemplating the murder of his nephew in the first place? Especially considering that his decision to brandish the lightsaber was wholly predicated on, what? “Feeling darkness within him” or getting some vision of the future, right? Had he forgotten the shit he got into the last time he took such visions and predictions too seriously? He staunchly refused to kill his father, an actual Sith Lord and embodiment of the Empire’s iron-fisted tyranny, even though not doing so might seal the Empire’s final victory, but then he’s seconds away from killing his teenage nephew - who as of yet has presumably done no wrong - in cold blood because of what *might* happen? This is the sort of thing people mean when they say TLJ was a betrayal of Luke’s character. In order to not be a horrible story choice this sort of thing needs a lot of background showing why Luke would make such a drastic 180 on what he stood for and, surprise, that sort of information is one of the new movies’ worst qualities. I strongly dislike TLJ mostly because it was utterly boring and, by the time we got to the oh-so-intricately detailed world of Not-Hoth I couldn’t care less about what happened next and wanted it to be over. The movie took the mediocre start from TFA and added terrible characters, shoddy writing, a largely worthless waste of time on Planet Vegas, a monotonous setup for a chase scene, and the worst protagonist since Jake Lloyd.
@DiggerPat

@Call Me Coach I agree, I don't think there's much worth in bringing politics into filmmaking. So, first off, you might want to have a chat with the people behind the making of TLJ who wrote off all criticism as being misogynistic, or all the critics who praised the movie for how progressive it was. I don't think it's any great stretch of the imagination to conclude that a fair amount of people complaining that this was a "trash SJW movie" stemmed from people telling us we're supposed to like it based on "SJW" values. Second...I didn't mention politics in my post at all. As I wrote in it, the movie has loads of problems just as a film. Do you care about defending the movie or are you just around to prove my point?

You're saying he's so emotionally unstable that even after everything he's been through and everything he's learned his first impulse is to kill something that frightens him. This is far from saying he's imperfect - you have to believe that he was about to do something he would never do willingly and shouldn't be doing at all given how he should have progressed over the time between films. It doesn't follow at all knowing what we do about his character in the OT and there's absolutely no explanation as to why he reached the point of near murder besides "he saw something scary". It's as if the film expects us to think that he's learned and gained nothing in the years between films at best and pretends that all his development didn't mean anything at worst. I’m not gonna lie you bring up some good points but honestly at the end of the day this entire trilogy is hot garbage. They fucked up the whole story with two different directors taking it from two completely different directions and unfortunately they missed the mark on EVERY good storyline they possibly had. I’m still pissed they never explained how the fuck they found Anakins lightsaber (yes that lightsaber is Anakins not Luke’s). Yes it is a big deal dude I want to know how they found it because luke dropped it off of a fucking planet! Lol They got rid of the whole Rey being a nobody aspect which I thought would have been awesome but whatever that’s fucked now. Also the casino planet sub plot was ridiculously fucking stupid, I watched your video for 30 minutes waiting to see how you’d defend that and laughed when you only mentioned it for about 30 seconds lol Whatever I’m getting carried away but all of these movies suck TLJ is just the worst one. The End.

That Guy That EVERYBODY Hates! It’s not owned by Anakin so therefore its not his? Do you understand how Jedi work at all? Every Jedi once they are trained construct their very own lightsaber that is designed and constructed personally for them, it’s literally an extension of them like there personal siganature. They don’t just buy and trade them from the local Jedi store you stupid fuck... doesn’t matter if he owns it or not that will always be Anakins lightsaber , he built it himself and is the original owner...that’s why luke eventually built his own, that’s why Rey eventually built her own. It’s part of their training. And saying that someone could have wandered by and found this thing after dropping it off of a flying city is a big fucking stretch dude...that takes ALLLLLLLLLL kinds of shit to just fall into place for that to be a reality but whatever think what you want. All the story lines in these movies had tons of potential but the best ones never led anywhere, instead we got two extremely mediocre films and one (TLJ) that was complete garbage. Also I’m not saying the canto bight plot didn’t push the story forward... I’m saying it was fucking stupid and boring, they should have went an entirely different direction. Ok that’s all, you are entitled to your own opinion but if you think TLJ or any of the other two movies were “great Star Wars films” than there is no hope for you bud. First off about the milk scene... no one complains that it doesn't make sense. They complain that it's completely unnecessary and doesn't add to the story in any way. Luke is human and humans take dumps right? So logically Luke takes dumps. Does that mean we need a scene of him taking a massive dump? Is that necessary? If we had gotten a scene like that would you be defending it saying something obvious like, "well guys we all take dumps don't we?"
@moviemanreviews5577
@moviemanreviews5577 6 лет назад
Bobofett 72 Yes it does matter actually. And yes every scene does matter. Time is very important when it comes to the medium of film. Movies are very condensed forms of storytelling and if you have every seen behind scenes talk, especially about deleted scenes they talk about how important this is. Now about the milk scene. No it does not show how Luke has changed at all. The exact opposite. Did you not listen to this video? It's about showing how Luke still likes milk bc of how he was raised on a farm. My point is it shows nothing for the character or adds anything at all. We know he drinks, eats, craps, etc in order to live. Like I said if it had been a scene of him taking a dump would you still think it's fine? Not only that but if you see the behind the scenes you'll see just how expensive that scene was, especially to make that cow. Clearly a lot of money went into a scene that is so unimportant and useless. Terrible use of budget and screen time.
@moviemanreviews5577
@moviemanreviews5577 6 лет назад
Bobofett 72 Alright dude. Bc apparently the only or best way to show that Luke is still Luke is by having him suck milk out of a space cow's teat and let spill and drool all over his beard. Yeah sounds about right.
@moviemanreviews5577
@moviemanreviews5577 6 лет назад
Bobofett 72 No matter how crazy Luke gets, no matter what things Luke does, no matter if he attempts to murder his nephew while sleeps, no matter if he becomes a bitter old man who has given up on his family and the entire galaxy, no matter how different Luke is, we all know he is still Luke bc he still likes milk... ah yes.

+Movie Man Reviews You know what the real problem with this scene is for me? It's that some genius in editing decided that this scene should remain in the movie instead of the one where Luke mourns Han's death, an emotional and heartbreaking moment that shows that Luke actually cared for his best friend's passing. Go figure...
@moviemanreviews5577
@moviemanreviews5577 6 лет назад
Bobofett 72 There is absolutely no exaggeration in my last comment. There was about the milk. Bc I said he sucked on the teat when he squirted in a cup first and then drank. Can you please state what part of my recent comment was an exaggeration? And no I'm sorry but Luke still liking milk is not an effective way of showing how the character is the same.

I'm surprised you didn't touch on the biggest problem, which is that people were so angry about Rey's parents being nobody because they got this huge stick up their ass in Force Awakens about Rey being "overpowered" and then whined for years that she needs some connection to famous legacy characters as some in-universe justification of it, when TLJ correctly identifies that this kind of thinking is itself the problem, and actively denying it for the audience is the way to address it. Shame JJ didn't understand that...
