I'm am a highly insulin resistant type2 diabetic I only eat avocados, olives and organic strawberries when in season. Any other fruits send my glucose levels soaring. Eliminating fruits, higher carb vegetable and starches (ketovore way of eating) has permitted me to lose weight and come off if insulin injections. I am proof that severe insulin resistance can be improved through dietary changes.

Maqui berry should be one of the best fruits for diabetics to eat. Studies have found that maqui berry extract prevents blood sugar from rising, when taken before a meal; due to the delphinidums in the maqui berries. Green, unripe bananas are also one of the best fruits for diabetics. The resistant starch in green, unripe bananas hasn't converted to sugar yet. So it resists digestion in the small intestine (thereby preventing a rise in blood sugar), and then it feeds the beneficial bacteria in the large intestine. And the beneficial bacteria in the gut then help to control your blood sugar.

@@captainadams7569 We only need glucose, and that we can make ourselves. You don't need to consume it to have it. You'd be perfectly healthy with a 0% sugar diet. Most of the body can actually run on fat/ketones, and that's a better energy source. But for the parts that require glucose, the body would simply convert some fat to glucose. "Sugar" btw isn't just glucose. It includes fructose, a liver poison we have no reason to consume unless we're starving to death.

You shouldn’t look at food items in isolation like this as they metabolise differently in combination with each other. For example, add some Greek yoghurt to your fruit - it will flatten the glucose curve from the fruit considerably. Also, if you eat fruit (or any other carbs) after a fibre/protein rich meal - the spike from the carbs will be much smaller. You can also go for a brisk walk right after eating - no spike even following a carb heavy meal! I’ve checked this with a glucose monitor - and that’s coming from someone with a compromised glucose metabolism! Read the book Glucose Revolution. You don’t need to cut out all the foods you love - there are some simple tricks you can use to avoid those spikes. Ps. The only things you need to give up is highly processed foods and added/ refined sugar!

After years of trial and error trying to figure out a proper diet for MY body I can eat avocados, olives, and a few tomatoes. The rest of fruit raises or spikes my blood sugar. Misdiagnosed for years is a thin type two when I’m LADA. I’ve also tried the little bit of lemon juice (about 1 tablespoon) in a water to “cleanse yourself every morning.” My blood sugar went from 85 mg/dl to 120 mg/dl. I’ve tried the raspberry and blackberries also. If I were to eat four- five of those my blood sugar would go from 82 mg/dl to 100 mg/dl in a heartbeat. When I tell Western medical doctors this they don’t believe me. They’re always telling me I’m doing something wrong. (come on now, you’re eating more than that) I’ve learned to ignore them and just use them for blood tests and to prescribe my insulin.

Dr. Sten Ekberg: your scholarly videos on relevant subjects are matchless. Millions of people are benefiting from your this great work. In these comments, my point is: we have been told by all Keto experts from decades that Ketones are better efficient fuel than carb, and ketones are accepted by brain even without barrier but I was reading a book "Unlocking the Keto Code" which is authored by well-known Dr. Steven R. Gundry. I do hope: you too have already read this book. Dr. Steven R. Gundry argues in his book that Ketones are not a good fuel but ketones help us in another ways, which is: ketones decouple Mitochondria, and then some portion of energy is wasted. Instead of converting excessive energy into fat (which is cause of gaining weight), Mitochondria wastes its some portion, and then weight of person goes down. According to him, in this situation, Mitochondria creates more other Mitochondria in cell, and body becomes efficient. Dr. Steven R. Gundry also tends to show in his book that carb are better fuel than Ketones, and nothing is wrong in eating carbs. He says: Important is to keep eating windows tight. I appreciate, if you can spare some time, and upload your new video which discusses this whole subject in the light of Dr. Steven R. Gundry's book "Unlocking the Keto Code" - thanks

I have really struggled to understand why no matter what i have done using the advice from the doctors, my diabetes has been up and down and totally out of control for years. i am able to understand far clearer the things i need to change to get my diabetes under control. i have begun eating leafy greens and avocado as part of my staple diet. im eating the naturally fatty meats and have removed bread, pasta and rice almost completely and i am monitoring the difference in my blood glucose to see how much of a difference these changes are making. i can tell you that my average glucose levels have dropped from just over 17mmol to 5.7mmol within a week of making these changes.. I would love to get a diet sheet from you to help me to create meals that are going to help me, but right now i am just trying to do this by watching the videos. thank you again for your informative videos.

Thank you for this video, Dr. Eckberg! I learned a lot, and love your visual illustrations! On another subject, if you don’t mind, I have read about studies that five dried prunes a day are great for bone density. I have osteoporosis, age 62. I recently got my Dexascan results which show a worsening of scores for my hip. Last one was in 2018. I need to know if in my situation it would be good to eat these daily. I don’t want to go on medication which is what they recommend. I had been on one med raloxifen for a long while, and stopped due to reading about side effects of potential blood clots. I am not on any medication for any health conditions at all, and I don’t want to start now. Just eating right foods and serious weight bearing exercises. Lifting heavier weights gradually. I’ve been doing my research on exercise. I want to give this a try before meds. I’d appreciate your opinion on dried prunes addition. Again, sorry to jump in on the comments with this. I truly value your opinion. Thank you! Hope you’re having a great day!!!

Much pulp remained in the juice providing a bit of fiber. I always felt so good after drinking a juice. How do you feel about juicing? This recipe made a lot so I wasn't close to drinking 2 apples of juice. I'd get about a working weeks worth (5 days) of 3 times a day drink. I have been binging on your videos, but I'm kind of lost now. It will be super amazing if you can make one ultimate video for people who are suffering now and want to know what to do. What's the optimum diet from your point of view? I just saw the Carnivore diet which is superb but by the end of it, you still said that you believe in variety and balance, but didn't explain what this would look like. I would love a video of this optimal diet you can describe which looks holistically on everything, please! (Has all needed Vits, Minerals, avoid diseases, good for skin, hair, microbiome, and so on) and it would be phenomenal if you consider a normal person version versus an athlete or gym goer/body builder) More context, I suffer from my Gut issues for the last two years, and it's getting crazy this week, hence, I need to radically change my lifestyle to the optimal diet. Doctors everywhere are contradicting (veggies are toxics, meet is cancer, watch out, you are killing your microbiome, oh you need probiotics, and so on) but your videos talked sense to my brain, so I trust you now.

The trend is to fit everyone into "one type diet". Trust no one, do your own research and keep a diary of what you eat to see what is good for you (gut). Look around the world: Inuits live on a carnivore diet, in India lots of vegetarian people and so on and they have thrived for millennia. Diet is only one factor, other factors like; genetics, habitat, gender, age, metabolic health, stress, pollution (including noise), water quality, etc...all of them affect our well being. I had gut issues for 2years (lost 8 kilos) I had numerous tests and Drs had not a clue. Finally, I myself found out that I was intolerant to gluten mainly, still a few other foods give me problems (quantity). I do IF as well 14:10, not longer because of my weight, normal but in the lower limit for my age and height. I am mostly vegetarian, I would have meat at family and friends gatherings.

Had emergency angioplasty and it was while recovering in hospital that I was given the news. I had all the classic symptoms but was in denial. I was 46 at the time. 10 years on and many thousands of injections later and I’m still soldiering on. Had quite a few hypos but have been able to cope with them. My lowest glucose reading was 1.6 mmol and was surprised I was still conscious. Have severe neuropathy in my legs and feet but my circulation is still good. Chin up to all the newly diagnosed type 1s out there. It’s not the end of the world.
