He wasn't there long enough. Kobe was like man you were there for 2 weeks Such a idiot. That was the problem.right there. Drafted #1 overall after proving...... he couldn't stay healthy through a college basketball season... Kyrie has yet to play a full 82 games. In over a decade. Never has in his life.
@@tj5180 tbh not really most of the blame should be kyrie bc of his refusal to get vaccinated which affected the nets for the most part of the season and even when he played, there wasn’t great chemistry shown and he even admitted he was a distraction to this team. It wasn’t just him tho like kd done his mcl which he missed quite a lot of time and the nets struggled with him out. the problem is they rely heavily on their stars they haven’t got depth like other contending teams which we saw how it played out in the first round when they got swept
James Harden was playing 35+mpg coming off multiple hamstring injuries and a offseason where he couldn't train due to the rehab process and he could have easily sat out and missed games but he still played not being close to 100%, he deserves a lot of credit
@@erwinhouser7704 well if his goal was to just play in Philadelphia that he would have sat out for the Brooklyn season but he's still played with a bad hamstring for most of the season
Honestly they should just try and play through it this year. There’s nothing that’s keeping Kyrie from missing games (as of right now). Simmons/KD/Kyrie are presumably healthy. You got a mid level scorer in Warren, 3 & D with O’Neal, Curry & what’s left of Joe Harris is there, whatever you can get from Claxton… still not perfect but they don’t have a bad team
Kyrie will miss games anyway because he’s Kyrie, KD getting an injury is (sadly) almost a certainty because of his age plus prior injuries. Never mind how whack their chemistry is
except KD really can't stand Kyrie anymore and doesn't want to play with Irving for personal reason. I heard Kyrie told KD that the anime One Piece sucks and he hated him for it
They are a good team. The issue really is chemistry and health. I would say a better center would make a huge difference and a guy like D rose coming of the bench to play PG would be nice
I've tried to stay on the fence with Kyrie but I cannot stand him, he thinks since he's so talented he's immune to the actions he takes. It's such a childish move
Lol ppl did not want to admit this since he left cleveland because their hate for lebron is blinding. But now the evidence just continues to pile on regarding Kyrie’s character.
I'm putting a bigger share of the blame on Kyrie. Nets fans can at least respect that KD was literally a toe away from carrying them to the 2021 ECF. Meanwhile, Kyrie's personal choices have resulted in him missing a *lot* of games last season that he did not need to (on top of being _already_ one of the more injury-prone players). With Harden barely being a shadow of himself from the Rockets days and leaving, plus all the recent changes to their roster, I can have a small amount of sympathy for KD no longer wanting to play there. _However,_ the current roster is probably the best they've had in a while (esp with the addition of Ben Simmons (on paper) and Seth Curry (who continues to be a good, reliable shooter). It makes sense to me to at least play this season out.
@@henryviiifake8244 My thing is it’s crazy how kyrie and KD had a lot of influence on roster changes but Kyrie had his problems, with the vaccine and KD is not safe either, KD want a Championship team but he has to realize, the nets are not going to give KD for One or two role players and picks…. Nets are def getting a superstar or best player from the opposing team 4 role players and picks… and that point, it’s no championship team left. My opinion is that u can blame who u want but both has connection to the downfall.
I knew it wasn't going to work when these two joined a young playoff nucleus and Kyrie says they needed more players to be a contender. Usually one all pro changes a team for the better and two should put them near the top but Kyrie made it seem like they weren't enough.
Everyone forgets that comment. Kudos to you. He played about 5 games.with the team and made that we need more pieces comment. Few days later Harden trade. Few months later Atkinson fired. All while Kyrie was healthy and didn't wanna play because kd said he would sit for 18 months(a year and a half) thats a 9-12 month energy.
The Nets actually thought they could do something with an unreliable player and another one who's leaving the moment it gets a little tough. Harden did the right thing by requesting a trade.
You know the funny thing about skip talking about the toenail on the 3 point line, KDs toes are literally hanging over the line 😂 like you don’t even need a second angle to see that it’s a two…
So what Kyrie basically said about Atkinson is that they didn’t want a coach that actually coaches. They want a passive coach that lets them run the team- sorta like every coach that Lebron has played with since he left Miami. Hence why Nash got hired
Not true. Ty Lue was made the Cavs head coach because he actually challenged LeBron and held him accountable. This is also why Blatt was fired because he didn’t and it made the rest of the team lose respect in him.
Kyrie preLebron: 0 playoff games Kyrie after leaving Lebron: 17-18: Injured before playoffs, team go to ECF game 7 without him. 18-19: Historically bad series vs Bucks, shoots 30% FG and 18% 3PT, loses round 2, leaves team. (Giannis made more 3’s than Kyrie in series) 19-20: Plays 20 games with losing record, doesn’t play in playoffs for Nets who made it despite him missing the whole year 20-21: Injured in playoffs, loses round 2. Losing record without Harden all year. 21-22: Plays 20 games with losing record, gets swept first round and averages 15.3 PPG on 37% FG in the last 3/4 games. He would be a Kemba Walker clone without Lebron, Harden, and Durant. FREE KD
@@omarthescriblomale8279 Sorry but that too much of a bone headed answer u just gave to be taken serious. He had a good situation but u can’t win championships when everyone is either out or injured. 2021 would’ve been the nets championship year but injures ended. Kd is particularly to blame for the distinction due to the personnel on the roster but at the end of the day he is a player not a GM. Even a guy like curry couldn’t win if he went out to try and build on his own, the warriors organization are good at selecting talent for him to just focus on playing games. LeBron is the only player that is successful at being both a player and GM for his teams
@@chiknosis in terms of talent he always had good to great players around him, its not like russ was a scrub. They were up 3-1 on the warriors, now hes got kyrie and he had steph.
And some justify KD wanting out when he's one of the perpetrators that started this mess. The day kyrie said that it's glaring how many pieces they don't have even though the nets have him and KD, it's already a mess. They fired a stable coach and hired a little to no experience in coaching to do the job. But they still said that they don't even need a coach since they can coach themselves. Some say there's no leadership or culture in the nets, yeah since those two broke it down when they arrived there. And now KD wants out since he can't establish his own winning team. And now the warriors won another without him, he has none after leaving, that's basically he can't win without joining an already established team since he doesn't know how to make one for himself but likes to brag that he can and wants to. 🤷♂️
@@dreamcage1801 I mean By player empowerment, they mean there empowering themselves You can’t stop that, this isn’t entertainment on the front office and players end It’s business and any good business man/negotiator uses there leverage to get what they want If a franchise doesn’t want to deal with it, then they shouldn’t purse certain star players.
It's not just about hoops. What separates the Lebron's, Curry's, and Giannis' from the rest isn't just their supreme talent and work ethic, but their leadership. KD simply isn't a leader, he said so himself. That's why KD and AD are simply sidekicks, and cannot be compared to the alphas, of players like Lebron, Steph, and Giannis.
🧢 🧢 . KD averaged 35 points and 10 reb vs Bucks, outplayed Giannis and was a toe nail away from beating Bucks by himself while playing 48 minutes per game after an Achilles injury that most players never recover from. His role players like Joe Harris simply missed wide open crucial 3 pointers that cost the Nets the game. You can’t blame Kd for that, he put it all on the line in 2021. Nets just have bud luck with injuries with Max players like Kyrie, Harden, and Simmons being injured during playoffs. Not KD’s fault.
@@KillaMusiktv1BlACKEYEDCORN I think he was talking about attitude more than ability no was is ever doubting his ability but it is his leadership that he is pointing out which KD even stated that he wasn't.
@@KillaMusiktv1BlACKEYEDCORN I'll give KD that, my bucks faced the exact same situation this year vs Boston, Giannis couldn't deliver, nobody except Bron can deliver series after series after being undermanned. However requesting a trade simply because they had a bad season after countless injuries is pathetic and proves he runs from a challenge. They were 29-16 before KD got hurt. mandate, Ben Simmons. He wouldn't even consider running it back after hand picking the entire roster and coaching staff, he wants to run away. He simply isn't a leader. Just like How AD had Jrue Holiday in New Orleans and only made the playoffs 2x in 7 Years, until he pouted his way out. Giannis got Jrue Holiday and won a championship in year 1.
The reason KD requested a trade was because the Nets don’t wanna sign Kyrie to a Max, so he asked the Owner for a trade. He actually wants to stay with Nets and play with his buddy Kyrie, but Nets don’t want nothing to do with Kyrie, so he wants out. It has nothing to do with a bad season.
nep·o·tism /ˈnepəˌtizəm/ Learn to pronounce noun the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.
The Nets I haven't seen this much of a collapse. When they sign KD and Kyrie, they were predicted as championship favour. Three seasons and only one playoff series win and the other two were first-round sweeps. They could have won the championship in 2021 if KD toe was on a three-point line. I feel that shouldn't have traded for Harden because they lost Levert and Allen which was a good defender for this team. Harden, Kyrie and KD trio was great on paper but some of them couldn't stay healthy or had other reasons. I still have questions about the Nets this upcoming season. Are KD and Kyrie going to make this work and how will Simmons work well with KD and Kyrie? I know they have Seth, Harris and adding Warren and O'Neale but I don't know if this is enough to get deep in the playoffs. KD might still be a Net cause no one seem to want to trade him so I guess we will see if the Nets can play good enough.
@@baseballfan126 I'm a lakers fan. I don't want kyrie. I'd rather keep russ amd give him one more chance. Or trade russ for floor spacers that play defense. Kyrie? Heck no.
It was just Poor decision making From the beginning Nets lost their identity And basically threw away everything they’ve built From that Disaster of a trade a decade ago With poor coaching poor roster Building And compounded into that by going all in for harden 2021 they got unlucky and were locks for the nba title But after the whole vaccination problem I’ve always thought Let kyrie play part time and find a way to trade him For weaknesses the team lacked Nets Are just An incompetent franchise that lacks leadership direction and stability and are now In a similar position From where they were a decade ago with only ben Simmons being the glimmer of hope
tbh there is no one singular person to blame for why this didn’t work out everyone from management to steve nash and kd and kyrie played a part on why it failed
yo they have to play a full season together u can’t just put niggas on the team and expect them to win games instantly. It was literally the same thing when Lebron went to the heat but once they got used to each other, well u know the rest. I can’t speak for the other seasons but they might of won the championship when the bucks won it, keep in mind we didn’t have harden in that series against the bucks but we had ky and kd and we were blowing them out so imagine if it was the team before harden was traded there and the bucks would have gotten done worse. Honestly their downfall was not giving that pre harden team a chance and firing Kenny Atkinson.
@@Tcd358 that`s why most superteams failed like the celtics and warriors in 2019 also the lakers in the 70s, and the Miami heat big 3 with Bosh and wade
I mean, they just didn't want it enough. I truly don't like using trite sayings for various reasons but to me it applies. There's no way KD with Kyrie *and* eventually Harden shouldn't have won a title. Conditioning, improper priorities and a shared blase mentality are the reasons to blame. Marks and Nash's shortcomings are (moreso) just red herrings throwing off the scent of the real aforementioned culprits.
@@darrengordon-hill Your not wrong but there offense with all three stars was too potent. Heck the first year harden arrived to the Nets there defense was average by the playoffs. The issue is that the stars got hurt and Kyrie didn't want to get vaccinated. If Kyrie got the shot I believed harden would of stayed
@@zlPaRaDoXx All I keep hearing is "If only KD had smaller feet".. Well how about IF HE PLAYED DEFENCE?!? Giannis, LeBron, Jokic - they can get you "game sealing blocks" - Joker did it THRICE this past season!! LeBron on Iggy - ICONIC. Giannis on Ayton too. "Average" don't cut it in the Playoffs!! Scoring 500 in one game and 10 the next will AVERAGE 30pts. But they're CLEARLY too different performances!!
@@zlPaRaDoXx average ? that had to do with playing against bad offensive teams and personell they had no one other then Claxton and bruce brown that`s it. They had no one guarding Giannis or Embild or permieter scorers at the wing
KD isnt a leader and neither is Kyrie, they got Kenny Atkinson fired and got Nash in as a puppet head coach while they were the ones controlling the team, even Harden said Nash was a bad coach, and then you had Kyrie putting his own agenda ahead of the team while Wiggins took the vax and they ended winning the championship
Part of me wonders if KD requested the trade knowing the trade wouldn't be able to happen, just to take the focus and heat off of his self proclaimed brother in Kyrie. I'm reaching, I know, but surely KD and his team were aware of how difficult a trade would be?
That seems a bit too convoluted. To me KD either isn't on the best of terms with Kyrie right now (basketball-wise) or he's unhappy that the Nets have been so hesitant to offer Kyrie a long-term extension.
It deff wasn’t a move against Ky. Their relationship isn’t fractured, it’s the Nets not wanting Kyrie and KD not caring enough about the organization to carry them
Brooklyn has been a mess ever since they left Jersey. they traded for 3 OLD players that didn't give them anything and put them in bad shape for years.
And they're STILL doing it!!!! Drafted (or at least "there in the lean years") guys like Allen/Dimwidee. Allen was just an All Stsr and a 24yo version of old man DJ!! Blake Griffin and LaMarcus getting minutes??? They're STILL trying to win the "roster on paper"!!! Just like the Lakers flopped with LeBron/AD/D12/Melo Like Jimmy leaving Miami to join Sacramento!! But seemingly EVERYONE had the "most skilled duo ever" winning it all... and fat James Harden IT JUST GETS WORSE!!!!!
@@MykelStevens WHAT DID I MEAN BY "And they're STILL at it"?!? Please don't interrupt my day off with stupidity - it's 7am and I'm taking my first shit of the day, don't ruin it.
I'm SO tired of the "KD's toe was too long" narrative. he's had that exact same toe his entire career. now all of a sudden it was too long?! it's such an absurd thing to say. when what really happened was KD didn't step back far enough. had nothing to do with the length of his toe.
@@demarkusondatrack5646 yeah but if his toe was shorter, he would be shorter. If he was shorter, he loses some of the advantage he has as someone with guard like skills as someone with incredible height. So it’s ridiculous to say that
@@K-Dot94 yes and no. Donavan Mitchell is only 6'2 or 6'3 and his shoe size is 17. it true that usually taller players have longer feet but it is genetic and can vary
@@demarkusondatrack5646 i suppose, but it is still pretty redundant to say “oh well if this was the case” considering kd has many advantages physically in the league
Incredible recounting of events. Thx. KD is a great player but has had some issues that makes teams back off from trading for him. 1. Team bouncing. From OKC to shockingly going to GSW to surprisingly going to Brooklyn. 2. Injury history 3. His Either/Or trade demand considering that Durant saw Atkinson depart and he wanted Steve Nash.
I can only imagine what KD and Kyrie with a supporting cast of Dinwiddie, LeVert, Harris, Allen, and Prince would've been with Atkinson as the head coach.
The team has imploded because of the personal expectations of the players. When Durant, Irving and Harden came together, the media set an expectation that they would be champions. All 3 are top 20, arguably top 10 league talents. Collectively they bought into this. It is REALLY hard to accept then move on from this failure to meet expectations without internally playing a blame game for who was at fault. So now what? Brooklyn still has a top tier group of talent. What they really need is a mental reset so that all of them can refocus on the work it takes to win. Should Brooklyn trade away this core group because they want out? Maybe not. Maybe they just need to get out of their heads a little and realize the expectations were always dependent on the health of aging players, and were never a foregone conclusion.
Kyrie wasn’t content with the roster as it was when he arrived. If the rumors are true, the Nets agreed to give KD and Kyrie input in personnel decisions, an agreement that the Nets regret. Now KD is using that and the Nets handling of Kyrie’s vax situation where they took a supposedly principled stand announcing they won’t have part time players and then did an about face when Harden bailed. KD likely felt that they could’ve had Kyrie playing all along.
after we've seen the lakers and nets attempted superteams fail, i could say that since 2019 the NBA has been in this so-called "dynamic duo" era where duos like tatum-brown, giannis-middleton, lebron-AD (before injuries and russ came), embiid-simmons (before the trade), and kawhi-PG (before injuries) have overall achieved greater success than the attempted superteams
What went wrong with KD and Kyrie in Brooklyn...sounds like a masters level psychology thesis in the making. Better titled "The Brooklyn Nets Insanity/Idiocy Conundrum" or "If Narcissist Divas Ruled the World". I think the Forrest Gump's Mom quote sums up the Nets 3 year odyssey nicely, "Stupid is what stupid does."
Brooklyn should have thought A LOT more about this before actually bringing the two of them together. Despite their basketball talent, Kyrie is one of the most toxic personalities in he NBA (mostly because he believes that he is some big time leader but neglects to take on the responsibilities that come along with being that kind of leader), then Durant is one of the biggest egos in the NBA (just look at how often he claps back or responds to random son Twitter, wouldn’t be surprised if he does that as often as Trump does). Then after bringing the two of them together, instead of creating a stable atmosphere where they know how things work/should work they capitulated to their every whim, fired Atkinson (who the Warriors scooped up allowing them to improve), gave them the coach they wanted (who has 0 coaching experience), signed all the players they wanted/changed lineups to get their friends a full time gig and finally never calling out them when crap like Kyrie’s “hesitation” to get vaccinated.
This proves that creating real teams is more significant than superstar divas moving around teams. Player empowerment is bs. They messed up the league and competition.
Hiring Steve Nash as a coach on hindsight is bad but at that time none can really be sure if he would be a bad coach. Steve Kerr wasn't an experienced coach when he went to the warriors yet he delivered and he was a roleplayer his whole career. So Steve Nash being a HOF (at that time when he was hired) may be able to do it better specially since they have all this talent but unfortunately he's disappointing
The Nets biggest problem is they have 2 special players but they are not leaders, they NEED leaders for them to be at their best. KD flip flops what he wants and Kyrie to stubborn to change
I think personally the nets CAN still be successful. With Kyrie and KD looking like they’re staying in place, I think with Ben simmons who when we last saw him play he was a top level defender and the him being such a good fit we can make a push. This would have to require claxton to step up as well as cam being a spark plug off the bench. Joe harris would also have to still be a sniper too
Nets got Harden *mainly* so that they wouldn’t have to depend on Kyrie. Yes a 3 headed monster was ideal, but in case Kyrie was unavailable for whatever reason, the Nets thought they could still win with a Big 2. Harden knew that him and KD wasn’t enough with his decline in play and dipped
