Collecting videos ad nauseam! We hunt for Megalodon teeth and other prehistoric sharks teeth, artifacts like arrowheads and spears, ice age fossils, and other interesting fossils from surface collecting in creeks, streams, and ditches, and scuba diving in the black water rivers of the southeast US. We heed the call of the quarry to recover fantastic ancient treasures before they are reburied forever. If you like REALLY old stuff, this channel is for you!

Yall are killing me! I would love to find teeth of that caliber, your shamers would be on display on my wall 😂. I only get to hunt 2x-3x a year when we go to the coast unfortunately. We fish and hunt sharks teeth the entire time. Got my wife into it and now my inlaws. I'm from the foothills of NC so no rivers or land based stuff to hunt here unfortunately. Is there any land based sites in SC or NC you know of that would be available to the public with Mako's and Angies? And Megs of course...
@blackriverfossils

you should check out a creek called Greensmill Run located in Greenville NC. There are numerous spots on that creek where you can find many different fossil shark teeth species including great whites, makos, and even megs sometimes. I saw a guy sift out a 5 incher there so I know its possible. beyond that, you can also find really nice crow shark teeth which are much older than those other species. I even saw someone find an arrowhead there once so it can produce it all. plan to go over to Aurora and visit the Aurora Fossil Museum too since its not far from Greenville and houses a superb collection of shark teeth from the world famous Lee Creek quarry. you can find teeth in the spoil piles around town which are brought in every year from the quarry in support of the Aurora Fossil Festival. It should be a fun time for y'all. Happy hunting!

@@blackriverfossils Very much appreciate the recommendations, especially the creek recommendation! We frequent Topsail Island (saw a woman pull a 3" meg out of the sand on N Topsail 😮‍💨 10' in front of us) where we find ALOT of teeth just nothing like the size of yours. Definitely pinning the Greenville location you suggested. We've heard of Aurora and considered it but we want the experience of pulling them from the ground or creek bed. Honestly I'm just not much of a "crowd" person haha, so not trying to dig in town square. We're very interested in Charleston Fossil Adventures for a short trip to the coast. @@no_step_on_snek9796 Aurora is not exactly a bustling metropolis so as long as you don't go during the festival, you don't have to worry about a crowd. everybody digs in the piles when they are there so its just another day to the locals. i have never been on any fossil hunting tours around here and I'm not affiliated with any of them but I've ran into Ashby from CFA a few times at events. My wife and I were spoiled years ago with multiple Lee Creek hunts, many with Megs found. Big ones were rare, complete rarer. Many 2 - 4 inchers are perfect showpieces, buggest were 5 + inches, only 3 of those perfect, root, serrations, and surfaces basically flawless. Saw others leave mine on first hunts with: Perfect 6" with pathological tip, elephant molar, bear canine, Paratodus, and more. Roll the dice, sometimes you win! My biggest was 5 and 7/8 +, but has micro spot of damage where blade meets root - happened in the matrix during recovery, couldn't find the little chip. Still have the bag of dirt from the site, will probably get thrown out when i am gone! But have the 99.9% tooth, and it is sweet as is! My best and biggest was 5 3/4" and Golden - perfect tooth! Wife's is 5 1/2", and perfect! Rarest are Megamouths, Hexanchus, Isistius, Brambles, and Paratodus - wife has a gorgeous pathological mini Paratodus beauty - golden color!! Thanks for your fun video, second time watched about 4 years apart. My favorite you found was the light colored most perfect smaller one, but others are fun too! Enjoy, lucky you are still collecting. One of my favorite all time finds is a Chubutensis that is mostly root, with a strip of enamel, anout 5 serrations form the crown, with two mucro cusps! Perfect condition - from the Chesapeake Bay, other favorite is the only Megamouth I know of from the Bay - theoretically will belong to the Calvert Marine Museum after I am no longer here! Hopefully she will get it too them! Thanks for listening! Find more teeth while you can! Oh yeah, the best Summerville, SC tooth we ever saw was a perfect symphysial 7 gill cow shark. Have 5 perfect ones from Lee Creek, the best is tge smallest we ever saw, my favorite was the first Pungo one I ever found. First few trips, back in 1989. Didn't know what I had until a couple years later - had to go back and find it in my stuff when I learned what I had! It is yellow/red and other mottled colors, with tiny (old worn in life/fossilization) chips on crown - still gorgeous! Have lots more, but I will leave you alone now - if you haven't already fallen asleep! - et -

Lee Creek was one of my favorite places to hunt. That place was amazing. I didn't get any giants there but I got a bunch of nice teeth including megalodon, chubutensis, makos, cows, giant hemipristis, the best benedeni I ever found, plus so much other stuff I can't even remember. they used to say a bad day hunting at Aurora was better than a good day hunting anywhere else. i never left empty handed, and that was pretty much the story across the board. no matter who i talked at the end of a day of hunting at PCS, everybody found something. its funny you still have a bag of dirt from there. so do I! I actually carried a sand bag full of pungo formation out of the pit to hunt for micros. i did take the extra step and reduce it when I got home, but I still have that material! I wish that place would open again. thanks for the comment. awesome memories!

How do you know we're to dig
@blackriverfossils
@blackriverfossils 15 дней назад
most importantly, you have to explore to find places where the geologic formation is exposed. once you find a spot, since the formation is not uniform, you have to dig around to find where its better within each location for the best chance to find a megalodon tooth.

megalodon as a species frequented this region to feed on the whales here. the sharks lost teeth which fell to the ocean floor, got covered by sediment and fossilized. over time the ocean level fluctuated and eroded away all those deposits, redepositing them all in the same strata. that happened a bunch of times over millions of years. during the ice age the ocean level fell again and rivers flowed through this area, eroding out all those deposits and piled them together just like modern rivers do. finally, excavation for a borrow pit exposed the deposits created by one of those ice age river flows and that's why there is so much here. this video just concentrated on the plethora of megalodon teeth, but there were all kinds of ice age animals in those deposits too. there were elephants, horses, tapirs, giant sloths, and more which you can see in my Sloth Party playlist. it was truly a remarkable site. thanks for watching and for the sub!

@@blackriverfossils I agree with you and I am very thankful & respectful of undeveloped land in general! In these times, however, watching residential growth accelerate across 100+ year old growth forests with track homes is silent torture. Proof that change will come one day regardless. Across the river from our place is a neighbor with some cattle. He is old and unwell unfortunately but he recently told me a story about his father showing him native gravesites along the river in the late 50’s. He can’t remember where but he remembers moss covered rocks having rough engraving of unrecognizable language across them! I’m super excited about this and think this confirms what I’ve believed about the property all along. It also gives evidence that finding any artifacts today is truly a gift against increasing odds. I guess we are both wowed by the potential story behind each artifact or fossil. Thank you for sharing your thoughts & experience. Makes me feel better about the broken points. I still comparatively have so much to learn and understand about these natives. The ancient towns and villages of these people are practically unknown and supported only by what we find! Good hunting.

@@colt110987 its happening in the lowcountry too. beautiful forests full of majestic live oak trees, easily hundreds of years old, are being bulldozed to make way for condos, apartments, and housing developments for droves of new people to move into. our antebellum past is being buried under concrete, along with the remnants of the Native Americans who lived here for thousands of years before. The fossils are deeper still, and they are lost as soon as the pavement and buildings go in too. progress is painful. i feel for the animals who have nowhere to go. By the end of my life there won't be a non-landscaped tree left around here. Your cattle farming neighbor's story is remarkable! Have you ever seen those rocks with carvings? If I ever came across something like that I would be taking pictures! Native americans always were close to water, so if you're close to a river your farm is likely richer than you already know! youtube is a great place to learn about stuff like this, there are all kinds of knowledgeable people, not to mention jaw dropping finds all over the place! its a felony to dig on public land in FL too, that's why the private property angle is so necessary. You can't even pick them up legally in a river there. I like the way South Carolina does it - anything goes on private property just like in FL, but in rivers its legal to collect them as long as you have hobby diver license from the state and you report the find. Indiana sounds pretty harsh as far as artifacts go - If you dug for artifacts on your own property there, is that still a felony?

@blackriverfossils My father and i found some indigenous tools from australia. They are completely different to your findings. Grinding stones and axe heads. One of my axeheads looks like a fossilised lung. I picked it up because it looked like it had been attached to an aorta.. Many years later, I discovered it had been used as a tool. Have you ever seen fascinating underground city of opals? Coober Pedy! (pronounced cooba pee-dy)

@@ralsharp6013 congratulations on your finds they sound very interesting. I have heard of Coober Pedy and the beautiful opals from there. We watch a show called Outback Opal Hunters and they often show hunters and stones from that location. Beautiful stuff! Many years ago I traded some shark teeth for some boulder opal from Australia and it is gorgeous. It looks way better in person than it does on TV.
