在佛教裡面
In Buddhism,
阿彌陀佛這四個字
the title Amitabha Buddha
到處聽到人念
is often recited by people.
不信佛教的
Even those who do not believe in Buddhism
哪怕就是小孩子
such as small children
他也會阿彌陀佛阿彌陀佛
are also used to reciting
Amitabha, Amitabha.
這一句話你就是隨便念
Even you just casually recite it
也是很了不起的意義
is itself a great thing.
這一句話萬德洪名
It's a great name with myriad of virtues.
世界上
In the world,
沒有話再比這一句話更好
there is no name better than this.
這一句阿彌陀佛的意義
The meanings of the Amitabha Buddha
包含也很多
are many.
例如說我們一見面了
For example, when we meet somebody,
也不知道講什麼話
and are at a loss for words,
打個招呼
we can greet him
阿彌陀佛
with Amitofo.
你也不知道怎麼樣回我
If he does not know how to respond,
你說 阿彌陀佛
he can just say Amitofo.
大家就心意交流了
In this way, we undergo some sort
of spiritual communication.
我看到你升官啦
When I know you get a promotion,
阿彌陀佛
Amitofo!
表示祝福你
which is a blessing to you.
我看到你發財了
When I see you make a fortune,
阿彌陀佛
Amitofo!
你有錢了
You become rich.
我看他跌倒了
When I see you fall down,
阿彌陀佛
Amitofo!
我在同情你
I pity you.
你失敗了
When you fail,
我也給他
I also say to him:
阿彌陀佛
Amitofo!
我同情你
I pity you.
這一句阿彌陀佛字義無限
The word Amitofo has endless meanings.
你送東西給我
When you give me something for free,
我也不知道如何謝謝
and I do not know how to thank you,
我就阿彌陀佛阿彌陀佛
I will say: Amitofo! Amitofo!
你不要我謝謝
If you think I'm too welcome,
你就說 阿彌陀佛阿彌陀佛
you say Amitofo! Amitofo!
不必謝謝
suggesting that I do not need
to say thank you.
所以阿彌陀佛來 阿彌陀佛去
We say Amitofo in exchange,
大家都阿彌陀佛
everyone is Amitabha.
就這個意義都能瞭解
The meaning is well-understood.
所以這個阿彌陀佛這一句話
So Amitofo
這是萬德洪名
is a great name with myriad of virtues
一切意思都是包含在裡面
embracing all kinds of meanings.
所以我們要念這個阿彌陀佛
So we need to recite Amitofo.
阿彌陀佛是印度話
Amitofo is an Indian word
當然因為佛的名字叫阿彌陀佛
which of course refers to a buddha
whose name is called Amitabha.
他的意義是無量光、無量壽
Its meaning is infinite immeasurable light
and immeasurable life.
說到光明無量
Thus, its brightness is immeasurable,
表示空間無限無邊
its space is endless without limit,
說到壽命無量
its longevity is also immeasurable
壽命就無限的長遠
and endlessly long.
所以這無量光、無量壽
So immeasurable light
and immeasurable life
就是阿彌陀佛的名號
is Amitofo's title.
我們大家常常
Let's always
如果把一句阿彌陀佛
recite the name Amitofo
念了很習慣了
and get used to it,
在人我之間
so that between you and I,
阿彌陀佛來 阿彌陀佛去
there is an exchange of Amitofo.
都阿彌陀佛
All is Amitofo.
真美好的世界
What a nice world!
