The PC story: I'm an Asian, and I'm sure as hell you can't just take the PC back unscathed. Even if you could get it out of the house and quickly sell it, they'll just go to your house and mess with your parents until they yield and started causing you trouble. The least thing they wanted is to have problems with relatives. So yeah, most of us will just count it as a loss and get revenge the F you way like the OP did. It's more satisfying, and proves a point so that 20 years later they wont mention it again at a family gathering to try to get back to you 😂

Asian parents were turned into a meme for a reason Sure not ALL of them are like that but many are infact like that. Unreasonably high expectations of your own children and said children can't say shit to their folks because the culture had wired into their brains the rule to ALWAYS respect your elders. As in no matter what and how bad they are as people. Which leads to them unleashing their pent-up agression on their own kids which leads to this unending circle of miserability and douchbaggery for generations.

I had some wild neighbors. These two boys definitely had mental problems. When I was 5 they pushed me in front of the school bus. They slashed the tires of the Mom's car. One brother wrapped a chain around the other's neck til he turned blue. My mother had to pull the chain so he wouldn't suffocate while my brother ran to get a neighbor with bolt cutters. They threw rocks over the fence. My brother once tricked them into throwing meat from they're freezer. Had a family barbecue that weekend. They once set our lawn mower on fire. Our other neighbor noticed and was able to put it out with water from her kiddie pool. The mother begrudgingly bought us a new mower. They were eventually taken away and placed in a mental hospital far as I know.

This reminds me of my mom. When she was young she babysat her twin neighbors, real sweethearts. Years later my grandma calls her and is like "hey have you heard about Wingus and Dingus?" My mother hadn't "Yeah... they murdered someone" They had murdered Wingus' fiance and buried her in the middle of nowhere. And unfortunately got away with it because they watched so many crime shows. And if Dingus hadn't confessed, they both would've gotten away scott free

The phone story reminded me of my old job at ToysRUs. We used to have an X-Box One demo, and the controllers on it would rarely last more than a few days before someone would steal them. Keep in mind, the demo X-Box was NOT a real x-box, it was a small computer with a few specific pieces of software on it covered with a plastic shell that looked like the console, and the controllers were also not real, they were directly wired into the system, they had no battery pack, no wireless transmitters, and even if you unplugged the wires somehow they weren't compatible with any port on an actual X-Box. Everyone who stole those controllers would have nothing but an X-Box controller shaped paperweight, they wouldn't even be able to sell them because any game store employee would instantly recognize the distinct wire connection on the top of them.

sadly its an even deeper problem, which is their pride. Then if they notice before you leave and give you shit for it say then show me the receipt saying this is yours and pull out the guy who gave it to you's receipt and get the cops involved if you need to.

For the story with the PC, I would have kept the recording of the mom saying that they stole the PC without his consent and went to the cops with the evidence, just for the sake of having them arrested and charged. Idk what the statute of limitations in Korea is but I'm guessing that the plan that OP went through with might have been because he was past the point where it wouldn't have made a difference had he gone to the authorities.

I don't see Korean cops charging a mother for stealing a PC from her son. As for the Aunt/cousins/whatever, there's no evidence that they stole it. Mom's recording can only incriminate her, anyone else is hearsay. Assuming Korean law about evidence and testimony is similar to the US.

There's 3 PC stories I remember. One where the cousin tried to steal a PC and the aunt yelling that they deserved to have it since OP and his family are godless children and the OPs mom beat the shit out the aunt. The other is where another cousin is trying to steal OPs server, thinking it's an Xbox or PC I don't remember, the aunt tries to bully OP into giving it to them and even tried to bully the mom until OP yelled at them to get out. The third is the tamest, where a neighbor tries to get the OP to give her his high end PC because, "he's too old to play games, he needs to focus on studying, women don't like gamers, and his son deserves it" and OP just says no and closes the door on her.

I can confirm, as someone who has lived in the rural south most of their lives, that people will do some absolutely crazy stuff with gasoline. I was in second grade so this had to be 2001 at the least. Some kid came to school, infected everyone in our grade with lice, so they had to check all of our heads. I fortunately only had nits, no live louses. My psycho father, in all of his wisdom decided he wasn't going to get rid of them by medicated shampoo. This maniac made me get in the bath tub, poured a 20 oz pepsie bottle full of gasoline on my head and made me sit with it on my scalp and hair for almost 40 minutes. Needless to say I had a few burns and my scalp has never really been the same. He walked back in with a lit cigarette hanging out his mouth. He did the same to my brother. He still ended up buying the shampoo. I honestly think he was trying to kill us

That last story sounds way too much like my old job. I started a job as the new GM of a store and quickly built it back up from what the last GM had done to it, we were open again back to regular hours, our sales went from $900 a day to $2500 a day, all our labor, inventory, and food waste costs balanced back out again and the store was cleaner than it had ever been. Well after about 6 months of solid regrowth I was being put in other stores 1-2 days a week to help them out and was promoted to an area manager and after about 6 months of that they saw how much catering I was doing compared to the other stores and was promoted to the franchise catering manager. After I took on that responsibility they just couldn’t keep any staff at my old stores I was running and come to find out they were promoting people to GM positions that didn’t have clue what they were doing and could t handle the work load required and were treating staff like crap. So on top of working as the catering manager I doubled down and started helping more at my old stores to get them on track and after a another year of doing that they just pushed me to far after working 70 hours a week and having been in a car accident a month and a half prior the owner and two other top managers were in Florida on vacation and calling, texting and emailing me hourly to micro manage everything. Walking into one of the stores one morning as they said I needed to help put up some shelves and come to find out they had the entire walk in removed, the kitchen was a disaster, all the food that was in the walk in was just sitting out everywhere and had been for more than 48 hours and they told me I had 3 hours to get the kitchen put back together, get all the food back down to a safe temperature, get all the supplies put away that had been delivered, get the prep done and open for business. Not only would that have been impossible for a crew of 4 people to achieve but it was just me and one other person and I was still dealing with sever pain in my back, neck, hip and shoulder from the car accident and when I told them there’s no way that can be done I was told either do it or I’m fired so I took them up on that offer and went home

On the second to last story regarding what the employee was thinking, if he's anything like me it was a mix of frustration, rage, and pride. I work at a convenience store and have for over 15 years and I've lost track of how many times I've chased thief's out of my store or just blocked their path leaving. Never physically caught one yet since they usually have a getaway car waiting around the corner where our cameras can't see but I've made plenty drop their hauls just to get away from me faster. Is it smart? Nope. Is it dangerous? Potentially, the second to last guy did pull a gun on me. Will I ever stop? Probably not. Sure, it's usually only around 30 or 40 bucks in beer and such that they're lifting but I'll be damned if they're gonna pull a snatch and grab from MY store without resistance and for what it's worth after any of those instances word travels fast and our incidents of theft see a steep decline for at least 6 months. It's something, at least.

It's not about the money, it's about the message. If OP stole the PC back it leaves open the window to'take'it back, plus he'd have to sneak it past everyone. Rather, destroying it before their eyes leaves a certain sense of hopelessness. It's not "somewhere" it's f-ckin GONE. There's nothing left for them but the sadness and anger of it being destroyed. Min 12:38, I went through a very similar situation and I can tell you exactly what went through their mind, fight instead of flight, on my case, I was having a walk at night on my neighborhood (prior to this, it was very safe and something like a robbery had never happened before) while listening to music, when suddenly, the robber got down from a motorcycle being driven by his friend, he started struggling with me to take away my cell phone, at first he succeded and was trying to get past me while doing something with his hand and shouting something I didn't understand, when I finally noticed, he had a pistol, my brain immediately thought "if I run away to the road behind me, he can easily shoot me" so I did the next logical thing, I lunged at him trying to take his gun, luckily, when I touched the pistol, I felt it was made out of plastic, after some more struggling I took my phone back, the thief got desperate and immediately snatched my earbuds (since I was listening to music) and started running away, with all the adrenaline and my instincts on, I chased after the guy, on one moment he turned around and pulled out a knife, for a fraction of a second I wanted to keep going, but My brain was like "that one has way less chances of being a toy" and both thieves got away with just my earbuds Once again, when something like that happens, your brain does NOT think, it acts, logic gets thrown out of the window in favor of your basic instincts taking over

Sometimes, the longer you stay at the job you slowly get more attached and you just get a build up of rage from awful customers with no outlet for payback. Then suddenly someone tries to steal from your store and you just act. It's just a mix of build up tension from past bad experiences with customers and a bit of that attachment to the store where you think "nah, fuck this guy trying to steal from me."
