Solomonster answers a listener question asking how Triple H's 2002-2004 reign of terror on Monday Night Raw compares with John Cena's first WWE title run from 2005-2006. Frankly, it's apples and oranges.

Nah Cena 2007-2013 is more like it. Dude in 2007 went over every dam body on the Raw roster from Umaga, Great Khali, Bobby Lashley, etc. And lets not forget 2009 when half of that year was spent with him trading title reigns with Orton and burying everyone in between, I remember a match he had with Swagger that year he treated him like shit in that match.

Ya ... I remember being so excited when Benoit beat Triple-H at Wrestlemania 20 cuz I thought we'd FINALLY get a long break from Triple-H being on top, and then literally like 5 months later HHH beat Orton for the title and I just wanted to barf lol. It's kind of like Brock these days where we get so excited whenever he drops the belt to someone like Rollins or Roman, and then it ends up right back around his waste a couple months later. Just a never-ending cycle

Don't know which of the of the 2 is worst. Brock is absent most of the time and when he does show up, he's so boring. Now while Charlotte is very good, giving her 10 title reigns in such a short time as well as feeding women like Asuka (who's much better than Charlotte imho) to her twice during said reign is complete overkill. Just my 2 cents...

The shows didn't really revolve around Cena during his first title reign. On SmackDown, Booker T/Kurt Angle and Eddie/Rey were given the same amount of shine as Cena/JBL. On RAW during the feud with Christian and Jericho, Cena played second fiddle to Batista/Triple H. Feud with Jericho leading up to SummerSlam played second fiddle to Hogan/HBK. It wasn't until the feud with Angle where Cena started becoming the main focus.

@kfire2567
@kfire2567 4 года назад
That's the whole point of his title reign. There's no such thing as "go away" heat, and you're supposed to hate the chicken-shit heel champion and beg to see the next big babyface to conquer him, which is exactly what you did. His matches with the likes of Shawn Michaels, Batista, that match with Ric Flair on the Raw the night he won his first World Heavyweight Championship, and even Booker T were actually better than you remember, and babyface triumphs would have never been as meaningful if weren't for great heels like Triple H. As for buisness/ratings, that's a combination of multiple things having to do with Vince McMahon, not Triple H. It's a nature of the business that top guys are going to get all the titles, accolades, and spotlights for years to come, and if you can't accept that, don't watch the product. How else are we supposed to create the next Hogan/Austin if fans always keep rejecting the top guys because they are "being shoved down our throat". I honestly believe that Austin /Hogan would not be as popular as they are if they were booked how they were today with how fans are. Overall, Triple is the 2nd best World Heavyweight Champion of all time, and yes sometimes he went over people he shouldn't have like Goldberg, which BTW he put a lot of people over and then he would get the title around two months later, but that is simply how the business works. Some people win, and some people lose, and when somebody like heel Triple H wins all the time, it makes heroes who go over Triple H that much more satisfying. Anyways, sorry for the long comment, but my point still stands. A lot of the greatest and most memorable moments from the World Heavyweight Championship come from Triple H's reigns, and it's bullshit for people to say he was champion for way too long. Quality over quantity people!

At least Cena had some great matches with the likes of Jericho, Christian, HBK, Angle, that underrated gem of a Triple Threat between Michaels and Angle at Taboo Tuesday and the brutal I Quit match against JBL at Judgement Day 05. Sure, I can see how a lot of fans were turned off by it but I can say this was a lot more tolerable to handle than the reign of terror from Triple H which was a period over three years compare to Cena's nine month run.

Few things: 1. Hunter got a lengthy run with the belt to built its prestige since the WHC was still new. 2. He was awarded the belt because he was the number 1 contender for Brock’s undisputed championship before he chose to exclusively represent Smackdown. 3. Besides Booker T, Hunter put over Shawn, Goldberg, Benoit, Orton, and Dave. Those guys are the only ones that I consider to be World Championship material among his challengers between 02-05. 4. My real gripe with his run was with how it was booked. The Katie Vick angle, terrible Steiner feud, Goldberg’s weak reign, and the racist undertone of the Booker T feud didn’t do Hunter’s reign of terror any favours. It certainly wouldn’t have been hated this much had it been booked better, I feel.

Cena's first year as WWE Champion wasn't even that bad. Outside of Edge, his first year consisted of him being put over by guys who'd already had their time on top and didn't need the rub. JBL, Angle, Jericho, HHH, etc. Triple H's reign of terror was absolutely insufferable and did nothing to bring Raw value or build talent. So many missed opportunities during that time period to put the belt on various people (RVD, Kane, Booker, Steiner, etc) and really let them have a turn on top.

I know that them taking the title off of edge after only a few weeks really hurt my opinion of him is champion for a long time. When his first time is champion only lasted a few weeks and his second time with the title was only a month or two I did not see him to be a credible champion for a long time. After a while I eventually came around on it but I know I would’ve come around a lot sooner if they had done a better job with him his champion those first couple times.

Jeff Pryce I agree with pretty much everything that you said. I am just saying that so me personally in the beginning it hurt how I look at him as a top guy. It also hurt the way that I look at John as far as the entire super Cena thing. I mean I eventually was able to look at Edge as the top guy that he is. I just know that I would have gotten there a lot sooner if they treated his title rain in the beginning more legit and not a blink and you missed it situation that they joked about on TV afterwards.

Triple H's reign of terror just completely murdered the show and the brand itself, his promos were boring, he never put over anyone and buried everyone especially Booker T at WM19 which i still say to this day was the biggest crime ever. He was the main reason why i never watched Raw, i completely agree that John Cena was the new guy coming up and his first title reign was to help him get over which i had no problem with at all.

I think the reason a lot of fans dislike the handpicked guy in WWE today is because they dislike Vince McMahon for a lot of his actions over the decades wether it was putting many of the territories out of business, screwing Bret Hart, The Invasion, and his refusal to accept any blame for anything that goes wrong in WWE. So if you’re Vince’s hand picked guy, you’re not going to be liked.
@jerelminter

I lived through the Reign Of Terror and yes Triple H was boring as hell during that time. The majority of what I remember from that time period is Triple H destroying his opponents left and right and there was nobody around to shut him up and beat his ass like The Rock and Stone Cold did during The Attitude Era which is why I didn't mind him being a heel during that time because you had other wrestlers who were better than him. John Cena on the other hand was okay when he won the WWE Championship in 2005 but at least the show didn't revolve around him until the WWE pushed him to be in that spot but to be fair, the fans are the ones who got him over like Solomonster said in this video, they didn't deliberately push Cena to destroy his opponents left and right until after he was already over.

I think Cena's reign was more compelling since he was by far the hottest act in the company and for a couple of years the biggest heel and babyface simultaneously on the planet, being booed out of most "smart" buildings while being cheered by girls and kids. HHH's title reigns was just bland and at times infuriatingly anticlimatic like they way he beat Booker T after burying him for weeks and Goldberg who just annihilated The Rock, in both cases tho the run was overblown and the way it ended should have been much bigger if booked properly

You know what, I think the reign of terror existed because Shawn did not care about being the Champion when he came back. I think Shawn should of actually won that match on Raw Dec 2003 and dropped it at WM 20 to person we are not suppose to mention in that triple threat. So really instead of that one month reign Shawn had in 2002 I think he would of been champ for a good period between then and 05 if he wanted to be the top guy.

I lived through both & as much as Cena's first run was rough, it was nowhere near as bad as HHH, I stopped watching around the time he nonsensically went over goldberg at Summerslam 2003 & didn't tune back in till 2006. The only issue with Cenas first run is he held it too long & so fans turned on him, it's worth noting that Austin's big babyface runs with the title never went more than 2/3 months at a time. Again that's more down to VKM since in 2005 Cena didn't have any real influence on the booking & was just going along with what the boss wanted. Hell, he even wanted to drop the belt to edge at unforgiven 2006, go to smackdown & turn heel but vince said no, that's why he looked miserable when he won that match.

They are not even comparable. You can't compare ONE Cena title reign to multiple title reigns Triple H had from 02-05. If Cena's first title reign was a reign of terror then what the fuck was Rollins title reign in 2015? Batista had the World Title just as long as Cena in 2005 at the same time on SmackDown, is his title reign considered a reign of terror as well? The person who ask that question must be one of those people who thinks Cena buries people by winning a match.
