4:35 Funny you mention that, it's been a bit of a recurring issue for me when using flashlights in earlier darker maps. The particle effect gets REALLY bright with a light directly on it, ironically making it much harder to see.
Maybe in the future I am able to enter the ducts and maintenance tunnels in the Foundation without fear of ...fear? I mean I don't want to hit my toe in that darkness. Yeah. That's right. *akward snickering*
You now have me wanting to buy a nightvision optic for one of my guns. We are just going to ignore that I have one gun I could in theory mount an optic to, and that the cheapest optic I could find is still as expensive as any of my guns...
Hey Anton! Have you thought about removing the "auto exposure" like effect on the nods to make them more realistic? Yes this risks overblown scenes but that's what happens with NVG. Unless I'm uninformed and there's technology that auto corrects
14:06 Okay, I was already sold on this with the other ones, but this display is too fucking cool! It reminds me of Halo 3 ODST's VISR mode! Edit: 15:00 Didn't realize you already made the comparison for me!
Only slight gripe is I have tried night vision with a scope and it didn't quite work, kinda like the scope was ignored. Apart from that, this is awesome :)
I noticed upping the number of rendered optics in the options panel tanks my performance, using for example the gpnvg18 and a couple of thermals at the same time. Knowing your graphics engine and how it works, would you say this specifically is more taxing on cpu or gpu?
You know another stupid detail that makes NVGs annoying to use? The focus distance being further out, making everything blurry and out of focus when too up close. I'd love/hate to see it.
Love the new optics, you're doing a great job with the night vision! As a night vision nerd, there are only very few things off here from real NODs that may be of use to be aware of. Firstly, generation 1 are entirely different from gen 2 and 3 devices - Generation 1 devices are almost all soviet surplus tubes that require lots of ir lighting to be useful. They have a fisheye effect around the periphery of the screen, really don't work almost any better than the naked eye, and have no noise/scintillation like is caused by the microchannel plate in gen 2 and 3 devices. The optic referred to as gen 1 most closely resembles a gen 2 or 2+ device to me.
Damn im so happy to finally be able to play with some REAL good looking NVG´s, and they look soo realistic. what is going to be the next BIG thing thats comming up? maaybee multiplayeer?
The fun thing about the red dots being unusable in night vision is that many are! Your quality ones that are marketed for military use will tend to have a NV setting (Eotech), or their lowest few brightness settings are meant for night vision use (Aimpoint, Trijicon). Having controllable brightness settings with NV settings for applicable red dots would be cool! And having cheaper red dots unable to be NV compatible would add difficulty for take and hold potentially!
I love the more simulated version of this, but it would be cool to have a more unrealistic (sci-fi?) version of this. Maybe an all in one mask that fully replaces your default vision and does not have displacement issues?
