How did you go with 1)the stainless wool 2) getting oil past the catch can on breather side and 3) the moshimoto catch can? The moshimoto catch can looks like it would cause a significant restriction so wonder if you found that or if you're still using it?
The catch cans have worked out just fine. The breather side catches about twice the oil as the pcv side. I check them at every oil change, great about a 40ml total at most out of them.
3:40 No, that is not how it works. Not from the factory. It is what happens to people that do not understand how the PCV system actually works, no disrespect, no offense, I want to fix this knowledge gap for everybody. I recommend you take a measurement of the factory turbo engines, measure their crankcase pressure at wide open throttle. Resolution is on the order of two to four inches of mercury at most. It is not a positive pressure as you suggest. The actual crankcase pressure at WOT is NEGATIVE in a factory turbo engine because the pressure scalar component is driven by air filter pressure drop. I have a video in my channel where I set and measure the crankcase pressure to become negative during boost. This is how you keep oil inside the engine and prevent deposits from circulating and ruining the engine quickly. This is also how you keep piston rings draining properly in boost and wick oil down from engine components back to the oil pan. This is also how you reduce blow-by and prevent oil from being pulled up into the chamber during intake stroke from the ring pack. Basically it is the most important and fundamentally mis-understood principle of combustion engines. Fundamentals are pressure testing and crankcase pressure measurement.
I have this issue at the moment after going to a link ECU and the intake sounds like a vacuum cleaner (I have no idea what that would be as it never did it before). i have checked all around for vacuum leaks and couldn't find any but the strange thing is that when it goes to like 850-1000 it stops making the noise but as soon as you touch the throttle boom its at 2000 and stays their. and that's with the engine at op temp. I'm going to try some upper engine cleaner (sea foam for U.S readers) and see if that could help.
In NJ if your vehicle is more than 8 years old you dont have to report your title to the the MVC as salvage. You can take the settlement and retain your car and dont bave to do anything and can still drive it.
I know some people put check valves into the pcv valve for GDI engines when using a catch can. Can this damage the crank case ! Or the manifold intake ?
I'm surprised this doesn't have millions of views. Nothing but facts from the beginning. Older model cars have it the worst with insurance. The same thing is basically happening with my car. Was rear ended, it's an older model. They won't fix the car. Bumper cover broke, reinforcement bar bent. They estimate about $6,000 in damage. Only willing to give $3,500 if I keep the car. Here in GA i have to get a rebuilt title to be street legal, basically having to fix the $6k in damages.. So basically they are forcing me to either sell my car to them or keep it and ignore someone completely wrecked the back of my car.... Some choice...
Thanks. Useful information. Mine fails from time to time during some seconds. But after that, it works fine again for months. I think perhaps it happens after rainy days. It seldom rains here. It's been like that for the last four years. I'll look next time car goes in workshop.
Very easy to follow and use this in relation to completely different engine to understand all the options and pro and cons as to how to deal with venting my oroject
I had a fiat x1/9 in the early 1970's. it was great to drive, stopped on a dime, it went 93 miles an hour flat out. What a great idea to put a Honda motor and drive train in it.
Great video, the best explanation of crankcase evac system I have found ON RU-vid. Most of the boosted production cars come with a connection from the breather to the intake before the turbo to evacuate gases under boost. Arguably, on boosted applications which have more blow-by, it's more important to evacuate under boost than at idle / low engine speeds. Unless you are using a dry sump, routing both the PCV and the breather ends to catch cans (separate ones is the preferred approach) leads to more pressure in the crankcase, which is not good.
So the 10" clears the AC vent on your Volvo. That sure looks like my 06 V70. So good to know that'll fit. I have an app called "Auto Best Brightness" on my Samsung tablet that lets me turn the brightness up and down easily. Would that work on the ATOTO?
This dashcam is a POS because in 3 years of ownership and the company sending me a replacement, it is still totally unreliable. I can't even tell you how many times I checked the memory card to view an incident and NO INCIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I look at the list of files there are large random gaps between files. And several files are very small and the video in those files moves at lightening fast forward. Just today there's a file at 2:49 then the next file is at 4:47! So NO VIDEOS FROM 2:52 UNTIL 4:49!!!!!!!!!!!! THEN 4:47 TO 5:28!!! THEN 5:28 TO 6:10!!!!!!!!! Then there's the "P" files...I have a file from today that shows me pulling into a parking spot.. Why is that a protected file????
I pauzed it when you opened the occ the brass filter in the occ doesnt that restrict the flow like does it increase crankcase pressure i got a airtec one but i dont thrust the damn filter in it due to more pressure being created can someone tell me if im wrong or not good video tho
in my unit i installed occ but i removed the brush filter inside the occ beacuse it can restrict the air flow and can increase crankcase pressure that leads a damage to the engine
When I removed the actuator, all the seals and springs came out. Luckily, I found them all and was able to reassemble. Your video helped me properly reinstall the piston and puck. Thank you!
Given that the screen is sticking out from the unit anyway, it would be nice to have a way to angle the screen towards the driver. None of the ones I've seen have that. Maybe make some kind of bracket extension ... Also, a way to put it in portrait mode would be nice.
Got mine from Costco, and it has a default in the design. The part that mounts to your windshield has an electronic circuit, but the heat from the sun will melt the hard wire connection in Points.
Today's engines no longer use a PCV valve like the one in this video!! Please show how the valve that is integrated into the rocker cover/valve cover works! They are relabeled as Crankcase Pressure Regulating Valve.
I have atoto s8 premium and when I go to system startup logo all it shows is the default atoto and powered by android logo. How how do you get car brand logos
I have a catch can installed recently. 2006 mustang 4.0. I hooked it up to the passenger side pcv to the in on the catch can and the out to the air intake. The ccv straight to the air intake. Is this a correct way to run this system? Thanks.
I did the setup where you route the catch can to ait intake on my supercharged Camaro and it was SUCKING up oil when it was in vacuum. Sucking up 1qt per 1,000 miles!! So capped off that intake side run breather catch from both Valve covers only! So much better!
Hey Brian, I always come back to your videos and it looks like I need to buy those o ring seals for the VVT actuator. Where did you source them if you remember?
"It's works sometimes, it'll maybe work a little less than half of the time. I don't know why" - ATOTO I have come to believe that this is their slogan for all the features in their products. I currently own the S8 Ultra Premium Gen 2 (flaghship model) and they still have MANY bugs that need to be fixed. Thankfully they come out with updates, fairly often. I havent installed the latest, but it's odd when they say if things are working great, don't update...That's a little unselttling. I've had issues from skipping music via bluetooth to settings not holding properly, to spotify just not playing music....Being a tech head, I'm alright with chipping away at it, but it's not a company / product I would reccomend to someone that's not comfortable with putting work into making things function.
